was just listening to some of this today, don't like it as much as Incredibad but it's fun to skip around. "After Party" cracks me up even more after i posted it on a The Weeknd thread, but there are a lot of other tracks i like as much. "The Creep" and "Trouble on Dookie Island" and "Threw It On The Ground" suck, though.
the digital short song w/ Kenan Thompson playing Reba McEntire is a bonus track on some versions, would probably vote for it if it was an option

"throw it on the ground" has a couple laughs but it takes a while to build to them and the rest of the time it's just kind of slow and interminable

I thought it was pretty mediocre. Most of the best jokes are in the trailer.
The whole thing missed the mark as a satire for me. The inevitable comparison is with Spinal Tap, where the band was plausible enough that you could imagine them really being a part of the '70s/'80s hard rock scene, and a lot of the humor came from stuff that (as many actual rock stars of the time have attested) actually happens to big rock bands that are losing their grip on success.
But Connor4Real and the Style Boyz don't fit into real-life pop music culture in a similar way. The movie asks you to buy into the idea that this goofy white pop-rap trio, who are played by the Lonely Island and basically presented as a version of the Lonely Island that isn't being funny on purpose, somehow got hugely famous and had people like Nas and RZA as fans. And then Samberg goes solo as a sort of thirtysomething Justin Bieber, and yet still has an up-and-coming hardcore rapper as his opener. All of which might be a funny premise, but they don't develop it in an interesting way. What I just wrote is the whole joke. You get Nas as a talking head saying "the Style Boyz were incredible" and that's basically it.
So it's not rooted in reality enough to work as a satire, which might be fine if it really ran with the absurdity, but it doesn't. (I thought the Bill Hader flatlining joke from the trailer was promising, but there's nothing else that delightfully insane in the movie, and that's also the only appearance of Hader's character.)
A lot of the humor is just lazy, too. Justin Timberlake, who as you may know is an actual pop star, plays Conner's personal chef. He doesn't do anything funny, the joke is just that it's him. DJ Khaled appears and says "congratulations, you played yourself." Again, that's the whole joke. Way too much of the movie operates at that level.

Are they called Lonely Island because the guys who were good at comedy left the island?
