Why is there no info online about Hello My Name is Tiombe Lockhart?

Not even her bling47 entry:

Did I find a bootleg or something?

"Sa-Ra ft. Rozzi Daime - So Special"

this track is like something from 1992.

I knoiw, right?

Sounds like Young Disciples or seomthing, lightly remixed by SA-RA

i thought it sounded like chante moore...

im reinvestigating this last van hunt album. more of a new wave influence on it but it just seems so derivative. some nice touches here and there but barring a few tracks on each album where it all comes together, he still seems to have absolutely no certain identity of his own.

he sings too tepidly too. argh. i just want to slap him.

Anyone know a good place to get mixtapes (err, CDs) of this stuff? The bling47 website isn't selling any at the moment...

i love janelle monae but she only has one KO song so far - smile. if anyone could take this stuff mainstream, its her... but ive a feeling this stuff will stay underground with the gilles/benji b listeners and straight no chaser/shook readers.

Off topic I know but woah Andy "R.P.M" is amazing.

Will check out a lot of the stuff in this thread. I like that first Foreign Exchange youtube vid.

Tim F, Monday, 22 December 2008 00:25 (fifteen years ago) link

I know we're doing our best to steer clear of boundaries here, but I think Foreign Exchange is more of a Darien Brockington/Eric Roberson/Dwele thing.

DJ Spinna's neo-soul efforts probably too.

also i dont think it works the same way in the u.s. as it does in the u.k. as far as 'underground-mainstream'

theres a really niche-but-large slow jamz audience out there that some of these artists can easily get slotted into

K DEF FROM REAL LIVE (deej), Monday, 22 December 2008 10:18 (fifteen years ago) link

Hmm now I'm curious. Thom Jurek's AMG review makes it sound like the greatest album ever made but so many of his reviews do that (esp. for long term female singers making tough, uncompromising, experimental albums 10+ years after their commercial peaks).

the only meshell album i have is bitter, which is just gorgeous (if uh slightly opaque) - been meaning to get the rest of her discography for ages (esp peace beyond passion). i should probably do that, they're probably like 2p on amazon marketplace.

lex pretend, Monday, 22 December 2008 10:26 (fifteen years ago) link

get the 2nd one.

titchy (titchyschneiderMk2), Monday, 22 December 2008 10:33 (fifteen years ago) link

I am always suckered in by Me'Shell at first but then repeated listenings make me tired, too much work for not enuf payoff. But I am a sucker for other things that probably aren't as "good" so there we have it.

he is more jazzy and has gotten tons of attention b/c of KDJ, but Jose James really is the shit. "The Dreamer" might be one of my favorite records of the year.

I keep meaning to dig deeper into the album and always get snagged -- in a good way (/Avant) -- on "Park Bench People"/"On the Red Clay" or whatever he titled it.

I know this is gonna sound all "rev hates Voodoo", etc. and here I go with the imposing limits and stuff, but I don't want this thread to be about stuff that's already canon like D'Angelo or Badu.

dug out me'shell's bitter last night. even more gorgeous than i'd remembered. this was considered a bit of a departure for her at the time, right? i am absolutely going to get the rest of her stuff now...

also, i dimly remember being sent the pattie blingh album mentioned upthread ages ago, just before i moved house and forget about it - i actually managed to find it & am looking forward to using it as a xmas-survival album
