Having to contemplate the distinct possibility that England are good at cricket

not used to it

To think India had passed England's first innings with plenty of wickets remaining and looking likely winners.
― Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Monday, 1 August 2011 16:28 (twelve years ago) link
It's also August and sunny wtf

BBC Test Match Special's Geoff Boycott "No footwork, simple as that. It was very full and Mishra didn't get his feet out, he's a leg-spinner and not a very good bat. The India tail is pretty poor, they don't have batsmen like Prior, Bresnan and Broad who can get you out of trouble. I couldn't bowl that well but I'd have liked a go at these. Imagine Fred Trueman, he wouldn't have taken off his cap and jumper to bowl to these guys."

BBC Test Match Special's Michael Vaughan "What do they with Cook in terms of the declaration? Do they let him get Graham Gooch's 333? Do they let him get past Len Hutton's 364?"
Quandry.
― Upt0eleven, Friday, 12 August 2011 16:11 (twelve years ago) link
well since the umpires are taking them off england may as well stay and bat on rest of day because this is real bullshit taking them off for light when the floodlights are on,there's no danger, the england players are set. Its utter bullshit.
― Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Friday, 12 August 2011 16:20 (twelve years ago) link
But fuck declaring, just bat on tonight. No point in declaring if india wont bat. There's 2 whole days to go anyway
this really is a disgrace
― Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Friday, 12 August 2011 16:22 (twelve years ago) link
I'd be really angry if england declare and india hardly bat due to "bad light" and the session is wasted.
Get them back out. Its bullshit!
― Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Friday, 12 August 2011 16:23 (twelve years ago) link
here we go.
I'll be really pissed off now if Cook gets out after his concentration being disturbed. lol
― Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Friday, 12 August 2011 16:25 (twelve years ago) link
who was that woman that came on to talk to the umpires and they called the players out right after? She obviously talked sense into them.
― Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Friday, 12 August 2011 16:26 (twelve years ago) link
woooo england finally get 700 for the 1st time in my lifetime. Another one of my alltime wants gone. :)

erasing my memory of pakistan scoring over 700 and javed miandad 280 of them
― Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Friday, 12 August 2011 16:45 (twelve years ago) link
what a year!
Pity cook wont make 401 really that's pretty much the only one left battingwise since 1000 runs is never gonna happen.
― Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Friday, 12 August 2011 16:47 (twelve years ago) link
awww cook out 294

― Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Friday, 12 August 2011 17:02 (twelve years ago) link
dearie me, sounded like a terrible shot. hope India get their act together before The Oval.
― Fizzles the Chimp (GamalielRatsey), Friday, 12 August 2011 17:24 (twelve years ago) link
India's form is realy depressing.
Its great that Eng will take that no1 spot, but I wanted a contest ffs!
― xyzzzz__, Friday, 12 August 2011 17:30 (twelve years ago) link
Eng in SA should provide that, proper heavyweight fight...
― Neil S, Friday, 12 August 2011 19:51 (twelve years ago) link
looked like it was heading to a draw before lunch. now five wickets for seven runs. boggling how bad india have been.
― Upt0eleven, Monday, 22 August 2011 14:08 (twelve years ago) link
Tendulkar out for 91 :(
― Duncan Disorderly (Tom D.), Monday, 22 August 2011 14:13 (twelve years ago) link
I don't think even Bangladesh have been this bad in England
He pushed his luck for that score tbf. I think Prior gifted him his innings by failing to appeal for the stumping yesterday evening.
― Upt0eleven, Monday, 22 August 2011 14:26 (twelve years ago) link
1 wicket away from whitewash.
― Neil S, Monday, 22 August 2011 14:28 (twelve years ago) link
All over, India lamentably poor, England excellent though.
― Neil S, Monday, 22 August 2011 14:39 (twelve years ago) link
well that was easy. england in england are sirius bizness.
― zvookster, Monday, 22 August 2011 14:43 (twelve years ago) link
it was the pieterson/bell partnership on Friday what done it; 350 runs without india ever even looking like taking a wicket.
think there may have been one appeal, possibly two in five hours of batting.
― Upt0eleven, Monday, 22 August 2011 14:49 (twelve years ago) link
i wonder if the zaheer khan injury was a factor of any sort in the series
― zvookster, Monday, 22 August 2011 14:56 (twelve years ago) link
i mean a factor of any great size
Was there on Friday. Watching Bell and Pietersen bat was the best batting I have seen. Certainly with Zaheer Khan they lost a good bowler, and also put pressure on less good bowlers. The batting's been pisspoor as well though, Dravid aside. England looked very strong throughout in all areas, apart from some poor slip fielding at Trent Bridge, was it?
― Fizzles the Chimp (GamalielRatsey), Monday, 22 August 2011 15:04 (twelve years ago) link
Lord's they dropped a few, catching got better and better IMO. I was at Trent Bridge on the Sunday, it was a whipping, never seen a Test team look so ragged.
― Neil S, Monday, 22 August 2011 15:08 (twelve years ago) link
I was there on Friday as well and couldn't have hoped for a better day's cricket. Bell clipping himself two consecutive, identical sixes to the same guy in the crowd was brilliant. Mishra had a torrid time and couldn't penetrate the attack at all. 170 runs for 0 must be painful.
― Upt0eleven, Monday, 22 August 2011 15:15 (twelve years ago) link
Something like the 8th worst figures ever in Tests for Mishra.
― Neil S, Monday, 22 August 2011 15:17 (twelve years ago) link
it's very satisfying to see England actually good at cricket, plenty of false starts (nassers side, the ashes team getting injured and losing focus) but this team should hopefully be great for years to come.
haha the swanny & jimmy show on sky again is hilarious
― Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Monday, 22 August 2011 15:19 (twelve years ago) link
jesus, look at the size of the Test Mace!
― Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Monday, 22 August 2011 15:21 (twelve years ago) link
hahahahaha never seen that before
― Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 20:05 (twelve years ago) link
Patel's bat broke as he hit the ball to cover and he was left holding the handle
― Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 20:06 (twelve years ago) link
oh man that was funny
Fantastic finish to the Championship. Looks like Lancashire might just do it, but it's certainly going to be tight if wickets fall.
― Fizzles the Chimp (GamalielRatsey), Thursday, 15 September 2011 14:27 (twelve years ago) link
They need 170 odd runs by the close of play... could be done?
― good luck in your pyramid (Neil S), Thursday, 15 September 2011 14:31 (twelve years ago) link
They're ahead of the rate at the moment, certainly. Looking good for it. Not sure what fields Somerset are setting. Out of Warwickshire's hands unless someone goes berserk with ball and bat.
― Fizzles the Chimp (GamalielRatsey), Thursday, 15 September 2011 15:11 (twelve years ago) link
I imagine that is what LJ is hoping for.
― Upt0eleven, Thursday, 15 September 2011 15:13 (twelve years ago) link
He'll have to go and piss on the Rose Bowl pitch pretty quickly. Dead as a dodo.
― Fizzles the Chimp (GamalielRatsey), Thursday, 15 September 2011 15:15 (twelve years ago) link
Lancs 104 from 14 overs. Need another 107 from 14.
― Fizzles the Chimp (GamalielRatsey), Thursday, 15 September 2011 15:17 (twelve years ago) link
Think that's right.
