Martin Skidmore [RIP 2011]

I didn't know Martin but I'm very sorry to all his friends for their loss. It seems like a lot of people around here loved him. :( RIP.

i didnt know Martin, but you could tell that he was a good guy, and he always had interesting shit to say about a bunch of different subjects.

What a wonderful person, I don't know what to say. I'm so glad I knew him.

Martin was one of the first ILX people I got to know when I first came here a decade ago and I always enjoyed chatting with him either here or over IM. This is a bit of a shock because I haven't been in close touch with him recently. We all lost one of the good guys today. :(

So sad to hear this. He went out of his way to make me feel part of the wider ILX family when I felt like a total outsider, and I was always very grateful for that. RIP Martin and, yet again, a hearty 'fuck you' to cancer.

Such sad news, RIP Martin. I knew he'd been ill for several months and now hugely regret not having seen him in that time. Martin was one of the first ILXers I can remember meeting in the pub, as well as one of the friendliest and most sincere. And such enthusiasm, not just for pop music, I've never known anyone read like Martin - even this month he reviewed 10 books on his Livejournal, that's kind of inspirational.

this is very sad. RIP, and my sincerest condolences to those of you who knew him well.

Awful. I remember meeting him in NY around 2005(?) and he was an incredibly nice, smart guy, and of course a great poster as well. He will be missed. RIP.

really sorry and sad to hear about this. his posts were a highlight of my early ILX experience.

Damn. One of the few ilxors I've met irl and he was lovely, gracious and friendly. He raised the level of discourse here with intelligence and wit. I was sad that he felt he had to stop posting here and enjoyed it when I would bump into one of his posts on FT or elswhere. Just hope he's at peace now...RIP

only know him as a great presence on a lot of classic threads here, but he was always so engaged & good humoured, this is very sad.

He was always such a terrific guy, almost absurdly good to everyone. And he had such a great and honest sense of himself. Such sad news ... he'd only have gotten even better and smarter. Ned's right to point how he could even tackle this illness with grace and good spirits, and keep right on writing and thinking. I will really, really miss this guy.

I think some of us need to go to the Glasshouse Stores ASAP and raise a glass.

count me in for many spirits; martin was my the first regular to befriend me. didn't interact w/ him lately, but always liked him and found his crankiness a good good thing, and espesh sorry to his family and friends.
