I wonder how curious I'll actually be to hear it. I used to love "Mushaboom", but I heard it the other day for the first time in a while and it sounded lame.

one time I saw her some guy had a "MARRY ME?" sign. she was like, whoa, that's a lot of commitment for not really knowing you

he flipped it around and had "BURRITOS MAYBE?" on the other side

markers + feist reminded me of the burritos line

sounds like Feist!

one month passes...

This is fucking gorgeous. The whole sound of the thing is so *warm* and lovely, like it could envelop you totally.

'Graveyards' and 'The Circle Married The Line' are early favourites but nearly all of it sounds great.

Matt DC, Thursday, 29 September 2011 17:20 (six years ago) Permalink

production really brings out all the best qualities in her voice too

Cosmo Vitelli, Thursday, 29 September 2011 18:22 (six years ago) Permalink

Just listened to this - I think its wonderful!
Not as pop-oriented as some of the Reminder songs were. But she still retained the other qualities that I really enjoy.

juicebox, Monday, 3 October 2011 17:59 (six years ago) Permalink

damn, out tomorrow -- rad

markers, Tuesday, 4 October 2011 03:46 (six years ago) Permalink

album in full as of today on Spotify (UK only maybe).

piscesx, Tuesday, 4 October 2011 04:09 (six years ago) Permalink

The Undiscovered First is fantastic. It has a wallop to it that I didn't expect from Feist, to be honest.

love that song, but i think the bass and horns were way too low on that recording. cool to see though!

Nhex, Sunday, 19 February 2012 22:43 (five years ago) Permalink

That was great, thanks.

Dalai Mixture (James Redd and the Blecchs), Monday, 20 February 2012 01:23 (five years ago) Permalink

Interesting time signature- it's in 3 subdivided into three, so I guess it's 9/8

Dalai Mixture (James Redd and the Blecchs), Monday, 20 February 2012 02:19 (five years ago) Permalink

I guess there are some other songs on the album in regular 3/4 and one in 6/8 so this one had to be the way it was to mix things up

Dalai Mixture (James Redd and the Blecchs), Monday, 20 February 2012 03:07 (five years ago) Permalink

it's in 6/8 but each verse clips the last beat from the last measure

piggyback payoff (NZA), Monday, 20 February 2012 20:38 (five years ago) Permalink

also it's freaking gorgeous

Mushaboom and most of Let it Die are lame. However the Reminder is awesome, so is Monarch and what I've heard Metals and this of course...

OutdoorFish, Wednesday, 2 October 2013 22:28 (four years ago) Permalink

Anti-Pioneer just towers over me, that song and this album <3 <3

She does 'Don't Give Up' on the new Peter Gabriel covers CD--haven't heard it yet, but am intrigued

one year passes...

I was just thinking "Hmm, I haven't heard from Feist in YEARS!" so I went on spotify to pull up The Reminder and was greeted by this album, which I had completely forgotten even exists.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 6 February 2015 19:10 (two years ago) Permalink

i found it forgettable too. seemed like it removed everything i liked about her in the first place -- maybe purposefully, i don't know...

tylerw, Friday, 6 February 2015 19:15 (two years ago) Permalink

I wonder if I even listened to this in 2011. I probably did at least once, but playing it now is basically a new experience. Doesn't seem too bad atm.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 6 February 2015 19:20 (two years ago) Permalink

It's an amazing album and by any other artist would be considered a masterpiece, I dunno what people saw in her first two records but this is the one

turn dog for up (fgti), Friday, 6 February 2015 20:55 (two years ago) Permalink

ha maybe i should give it another go... just didn't strike a chord w/ me at all.

tylerw, Friday, 6 February 2015 21:02 (two years ago) Permalink

"Undiscovered First" really is tremendous.

i saw her on this tour and that lineup of her bands and all the arrangments they did were so fucking great. just a well put together show.

kurt kobaïan (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 6 February 2015 22:42 (two years ago) Permalink

yeah, great album. don't know why it went out so quietly

Nhex, Friday, 6 February 2015 23:56 (two years ago) Permalink

and big ups to Gene Yuen Lang for getting the Superman job with Romita, wow!

Nhex, Saturday, 7 February 2015 00:04 (two years ago) Permalink

oops. wrong thread sorry. too many tabs open

Nhex, Saturday, 7 February 2015 00:04 (two years ago) Permalink

First two albums have A++ moments but are patchy overall. Metals is far and away her best album, front to back.

Whoa, "Pleasure" kinda giving off a PJ Harvey vibe

I haven't listened to Metals in a while but I have fond memories of "the Circle married the Line".

AlXTC from Paris, Saturday, 22 April 2017 10:07 (six months ago) Permalink

I actually don't know many of the songs by name since I just put on the cd and listen all the way through bcz it's an awesome album

Mince Pramthwart (James Morrison), Sunday, 23 April 2017 09:39 (six months ago) Permalink

this is her best album by some distance imo

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Friday, 28 April 2017 16:00 (six months ago) Permalink

"any party" is stunning

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Friday, 28 April 2017 16:00 (six months ago) Permalink

oh i'm referring to the new one as her best record, not metals

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Friday, 28 April 2017 16:01 (six months ago) Permalink

the brief sample of mastodon's "high road" on "a man is not his song" is both lol and amazing

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Friday, 28 April 2017 16:40 (six months ago) Permalink

Interesting! I played it through once yesterday and thought it was her most indulgently tuneless set of songs, I'll try again though.

The Mastodon sample just had me thinking an extra tab was open

monotony, Friday, 28 April 2017 22:51 (six months ago) Permalink

idgi, there are so many tunes on this record

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Friday, 28 April 2017 22:52 (six months ago) Permalink

sounds very odd to me sonically, but also fresh - look forward to spending more time with it, certainly less straightforward than metals though it has a lot of the same qualities

niels, Monday, 1 May 2017 17:54 (six months ago) Permalink

The Mastodon sample just had me thinking an extra tab was open

my exact thought was "fuck, did the promo tab move into a different album by mistake, that happens sometimes"
