Go Box Frenzy ?

No, that was album #2. First album was:

http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B00008O32D.01._SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg

..tho' it was originally blue'n'yellow, not red.

Whoops, correction, it was released as an LP after Go Box Frenzy, but it was comprised of singles that all pre-dated Go Box Frenzy!.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 31 January 2005 15:34 (nineteen years ago) link

ah ha ..

grrrrrrr to chronological whatsits ..

was wondering what that red cover release was .. i saw it the other day .. may have to go get it this week now ..

mark e (mark e), Monday, 31 January 2005 15:44 (nineteen years ago) link

I got that Now For A Feast LP for a quid the other day... doesn't sound much like their later stuff, more like C86ish pop punk - see also the Soup Dragons who sounded pretty similar at that time before also changing their sound drastically a couple of years later.

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Monday, 31 January 2005 15:46 (nineteen years ago) link

Classic all the way, even the completely outrageous style change for Dos Dedos.. was genius. Best use of Sabbath riff eva.

Greatest album has to be 'Cure For Sanity' imo, i cannot get tired of this.

Ste (Fuzzy), Monday, 31 January 2005 15:53 (nineteen years ago) link

i saw them in that c86 period .. (with Hurrah! supporting) they were shite (grrr) and so i left and chatted to Hurrah! ..
next time i saw them (This is the Hour tour) they were totally awesome live act. but i have to say Poppies say Grr is a great little 7" .. and having those tracks on shiny cd may indeed become this weeks top trip ..

xpost : " ..Cure for Sanity".. .. far too clean sounding for me (though i may be way off here as i haven't heard it in ages which seeing as i do like Looks or Lifestyle album makes sense ..

mark e (mark e), Monday, 31 January 2005 15:55 (nineteen years ago) link

The only thing that keeps ...Cure For Sanity from being the greatest album of all time is the it has "Another Man's Rhubarb" on it instead of "Not Now James, We're Busy" or "Satellite Ecstatica".

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 31 January 2005 15:57 (nineteen years ago) link

or "Wise Up sucker"

Ste (Fuzzy), Monday, 31 January 2005 16:07 (nineteen years ago) link

or "Dont Get Mad - get Even"

oh shit. wrong band. just.

Has Clint's movie soundtrack work dried up then or something? All those abandoned Darren Aronofsky projects must have been galling.

I didn't mind a bit of the pWEI back in the day, good live band for hormonal teens to mosh up a sweat to, if I can use that phrase. We had a beer with the band just before one of their gigs in a Wolverhampton pub once, Clint was quite personable and friendly. He's still the only one of those Stourbridge/W.Mids band members I would still have a pint with, esp after hering that 'Stourbridge reunion' edition of Round Table on 6 Music the other week. Miles Hunt and Shit-for-brains from Ned's Atomic Dustbin still made me want to force feed them both a cricket bat.

>lucky you ..
>did you grab the Live DVD that they are doing then ?

Nope, but a nice shiny double CD from InstantLive of the night dropped thru my letterbox today - nice quality. A friend's getting the DVD, I'll have a peek to see what it looks like...

Si Carter (Si Carter), Friday, 4 February 2005 00:39 (nineteen years ago) link

Mark E - note that Now For A Feast (and Box Frenzy!) were re-released about three years ago with stacks of bonus tracks, so it's probably worth making sure you're getting the new version for VFM sake

Clint's still got plenty of soundtrack work, this just happened because he discovered he could write songs with the others again (ie actually write songs for first time in ten years [The Beats on Lavish's album notwithstanding][note they split in first place coz main writer Graham had split already and Clint chucked a sook that the drummer was bringing in more music than he could]) and so they decided to dip a toe into being a band again for fun in case the writing goes anywhere

kit. ta for the pointer .. i saw the reish of Go Box Frenzy just the other day and umm'ed and arrrr'd .

The return, kinda:

No Clint or Richard, though. Read the bio for more. But there's no hard feelings, apparently, as they've linked Clint's page in their top 8:

Has Clint's movie soundtrack work dried up then or something?

On fire lately:

# Last Night (2010) (completed)

# The Odds (2009)
# L'affaire Farewell (2009)
... aka Farewell (International: English title)
# Blood: The Last Vampire (2009)
... aka Last Blood (Japan: English title)
... aka Rasuto buraddo (Japan)
# The Rebound (2009)
# Moon (2009)
# Blue Knight (2009)
# Dream from Leaving (2008)
# The Wrestler (2008)
# Definitely, Maybe (2008)
... aka Un jour, peut-être (France)
# My Mother (2007)
# The Healing Syndrome (2007)
# Wind Chill (2007)
# In the Wall (2007)
# Smokin' Aces (2006)
... aka Mi$e à prix (France)
# The Fountain (2006)
# The Big Forever (2006)

And there's talk/wishful thinking he might get an Oscar nomination for the Moon soundtrack.

I just remembered they covered Shriekback's "Everything That Rises (Must Converge)" a year after it came out!

the A-side was a cover done a year after the original too

stupid dumb-dumb gone plumb insane

apt description of Graham's decision, after spending five years driving the other ex-Poppies one by one away from his new band, to instead get a bunch of non-Poppies in and call it Pop Will Eat Itself

my older brother had 'this is the day' on tape and i listened the shit out of it. i made sure to check out all the namechecks on "can u dig it?" also. i guess people mock them for being a bit daft but they were ahead of their time! sounded like the future to me in 1990. i dont know much of their stuff outside that album though.

my fave track

Also The Looks and the Lifestyle but that one was eh-OK at best, a few songs aside.

a) you are incorrect
b) look at all those demos! including unreleased songs! and the chance for ppl who didn't buy a rare picture disc or a $20 import CD single in 1992 to get tracks like Part Man Part Machine and the On-U Sound remix of Bulletproof

Wasted part 1 has some Lydon/PILesque thing going on. maybe. Good album but imho lacks energy and conviction of their og stuff.

Ste, Friday, 24 January 2020 18:31 (four years ago) link

There’s only one OG member involved on that album, tho

don't care didn't ask still clappin (sic), Friday, 24 January 2020 18:51 (four years ago) link

yup.
however, graham was given the all clear from clint to use the name as he was the heart and soul of PWEI.
also, pretty sure that Fuzz has helped out the new crew from time to time.

mark e, Friday, 24 January 2020 20:40 (four years ago) link

Fuzz, Adam and Rich have each done some live work here and there, and everyone-but-Clint did the UK 30th anniversary of This Is The Day tour last year (while a different lineup did non-This shows in the US). I was just saying "lacks energy and conviction of their og stuff" is fairly moot when 4/5 of "them" didn't do the og stuff (indeed, this album is the OG stuff by that specific band).

don't care didn't ask still clappin (sic), Friday, 24 January 2020 21:59 (four years ago) link

indeed.
i just love the fact that the other vocalist these days is mary byker.
you could not get a better extra to back up graham on vocals for PWEI.
