I'm glad I can cast my vote. It goes to

THREE A-E-M ETERNAAAAAL!

daavid, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 23:28 (fifteen years ago) link

with Nomad on a close second, although mostly for nostalgia reasons.

anyone who doesn't vote KLF is wrong.

...although i'll allow anyone who stands up and votes for two in a room.

"Gypsy Woman" is among the songs I have hated most of all of all time.
-- Geir Hongro

Darn it all, I didn't read this until after I voted for "Gypsy Woman." Oh well.

Also came close to voting for:

The Simpsons Do The Bartman
The KLF featuring The Children Of The Revolution 3AM Eternal
2 Unlimited Get Ready For This
The Shamen Move Any Mountain
Paula Abdul Rush Rush

not source feat candi statton?

ledge, Thursday, 28 August 2008 00:03 (fifteen years ago) link

Sorry Shamen, "You Got the Love" and the Prodigy, but it's gotta be the KLF. But which of the three...? So tough!

This was the year I started caring about pop and despite some unutterable shite on the list it makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside. The Scorpions seem kind of out of place at 22nd. Are these in order?

a passing spacecadet, Thursday, 28 August 2008 09:43 (fifteen years ago) link

My faves at the time were The Source, Nomad, Last Train To Transcentral, Oceanic, Prodigy, Shamen and James. And the Clash but seems wrong to vote for them in a 1991 poll.

THE KLF >>> the rest of the world in '91

King Boy Pato, Thursday, 28 August 2008 10:09 (fifteen years ago) link

>>> the rest of the dance world at least.

Geir Hongro, Thursday, 28 August 2008 10:28 (fifteen years ago) link

So I voted for "Last Train to Trancentral" and now feel kind of bad for "Move Any Mountain" and "Justified and Ancient", but I'm sure the latter at least will receive plenty of votes. "Charly" is obviously classic too but too overshadowed by "Out of Space" for my vote, whereas '91 has the KLF at the top of their game.

I don't think that made any sense, but still.

a passing spacecadet, Thursday, 28 August 2008 12:14 (fifteen years ago) link

The bass drop alone on "Charly" wins this for me.

myndbloom, Thursday, 28 August 2008 13:43 (fifteen years ago) link

i originally had 3am Eternal ticked, but then saw "Chorus" in the list and had to vote for that, as I have a strange, inexplicable attachment to what I consider Erasure's finest moment (ok, maybe outside of "Rock Me Gently")

rentboy, Thursday, 28 August 2008 13:54 (fifteen years ago) link

Amy Grant, "Baby Baby".
Memories...

DavidM, Thursday, 28 August 2008 14:28 (fifteen years ago) link

No, that was "The Way We Were."

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 28 August 2008 14:42 (fifteen years ago) link

not a sound from the pavement..

(i know, it was a singular!)

Mark G, Thursday, 28 August 2008 14:50 (fifteen years ago) link

That is inaccurates. 1991 saw the release of the single version of "Summer Babe."

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 28 August 2008 14:59 (fifteen years ago) link

THE KLF >>> the rest of the world in '91

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

ILX System, Thursday, 28 August 2008 23:01 (fifteen years ago) link

ain't this a bitcvh

PappaWheelie V, Thursday, 28 August 2008 23:32 (fifteen years ago) link

Shit, shoulda voted for Charly.

chap, Friday, 29 August 2008 00:15 (fifteen years ago) link

This seems pretty fair until you realise Stonk has more votes (er, vote) than Let's Talk About Sex.

a passing spacecadet, Friday, 29 August 2008 08:19 (fifteen years ago) link

Ha! Bryan Adams whose crimes against humanity are worse than Saddam's (dig the internal rhyming scheme there) down at the bottom where he belongs.

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 29 August 2008 08:28 (fifteen years ago) link

I nearly voted for Transcentral, talk about a clean sweep!

Mark G, Friday, 29 August 2008 08:45 (fifteen years ago) link

The KLF dominance is hardly a huge surprise, I guess :)
