Beggars has "Dear Doctor" and Let It Bleed has "Country Honk" - too close to call.

Regarding "Their Majesties..." I guess it's a bit like "The Elder", "The White Album"/"Let It Be" and some other in that it isn't a typical choice that actual fans of the band would pick, as it is kind of stylistically "atypical".

But here, there are non-fans voting too.

Geir Hongro, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 09:10 (seventeen years ago) link

Mmm, like the PFloyd poll then.

Mark G, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 09:12 (seventeen years ago) link

"Piper" was a very typical Pink Floyd album in 1967. :)

Geir Hongro, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 09:12 (seventeen years ago) link

I fully expect to be the only person to vote for Black and Blue - but it's one of my favourite albums of all time, and I'm not even a massive Stones fan.

Right - thanks for letting me know I'm not an "actual fan" of my all-time favourite band. "The White Album"/"Let It Be" is such a dumb way-off comparison.

sw00ds, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 10:35 (seventeen years ago) link

But then, your love of Satanic Majesties makes sense (not speaking to other people here, only Geir) given that they more or less excised that terrible r&b noise for that album.

sw00ds, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 10:38 (seventeen years ago) link

Well, I love "Their Satanic Majesties..." for the fact that it sounds more like Beatles than Stones. :)

(Then, part of "Let It Be" and "The White Album" sound more like Stones than Beatles)

Whatever.

Er, WHATEVER.

I never liked their "ah let's crank up the blooze one more time" style, so OK I'm a "SatMaj" fan.

I'm on a bit of a Stones trawl at the moment, getting some jolly nice orig albums and/or the jap LP facsimiles.

Let It Bleed is a bit rub, but a bit fine too.

Mark G, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 10:55 (seventeen years ago) link

First, sorry as I made this poll due date way too long.

Since I do have time, however, I'm going to pull out three that I think deserve it and give them a spin. Exile on Main Street, unbelievably, didn't make that cut.

Bee OK, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 22:02 (seventeen years ago) link

last day to vote

Bee OK, Monday, 30 April 2007 21:34 (sixteen years ago) link

i voted for exile then logged in under a different name and voted for sticky fingers

ghost rider, Monday, 30 April 2007 21:37 (sixteen years ago) link

Is that what I need to do in order to vote for Dirty Work multiple times?q

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Monday, 30 April 2007 23:17 (sixteen years ago) link

not sure what time zone this thing is on but results will happen sometime today.

Bee OK, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 14:53 (sixteen years ago) link

Not sure what time zone you're on but here, it says "Poll ends June 01"

Mark G, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 14:56 (sixteen years ago) link

it should read "May 1"

Bee OK, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 15:02 (sixteen years ago) link

But it doesn't!

Satanic has some of my all time favorite Stones songs on it, but is too uneven... Between Beggars, Bleed and Exile for me... I'll probably just pick one at random.

I eat cannibals, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 15:18 (sixteen years ago) link

damn can we fix that and close this poll today?

Bee OK, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 15:33 (sixteen years ago) link

can we please close this poll? June 1 was a mistake and I want to know what wins, please!

Bee OK, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 03:14 (sixteen years ago) link

two weeks pass...
Let's revive this one on odd occasions. Until June 1.

Mark G, Thursday, 17 May 2007 12:00 (sixteen years ago) link

I would now change my vote to Beggars Banquet, which I've been listening to again and love every second of except maybe "Sympathy for the Devil" (which I don't not love, it's just...I don't know, kind of hard to take sometimes).

sw00ds, Thursday, 17 May 2007 12:10 (sixteen years ago) link

What does "rub" mean?

Why is "Get your Ya Yas...." on there but "Love You Live" isn't?

Bill Magill, Thursday, 17 May 2007 13:57 (sixteen years ago) link

rub=rubbish, if it was me saying it.

Mark G, Thursday, 17 May 2007 14:11 (sixteen years ago) link

Thanks.

Bill Magill, Thursday, 17 May 2007 14:42 (sixteen years ago) link

Let it bleed, because all of the tracks easily pass muster, and some go above and beyond the call of duty (let it bleed, rambler, you can't always get...)

whatever, Thursday, 17 May 2007 15:13 (sixteen years ago) link

i just now saw this thread so i'm glad the poll was extra long. i went with my first instinct, which was aftermath. good to see other love for it. (and i prefer the us version too.)

I've always been partial to the "outtakes" album of "Sticky Fingers"; is this crazy?

MC, Thursday, 17 May 2007 17:42 (sixteen years ago) link

Christ, still one week to go!?

JN$OT, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 08:27 (sixteen years ago) link

Never saw this one (not that I vote on a lot of these polls). I'd like to give some props to December's Children and Out of Our Heads - both excellent energy boosters. Beggars is an all time fave but I think I love Sticky Fingers more.

willem, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 08:45 (sixteen years ago) link

sticky fingers, for 'moonlight mile' and more.

I'm pretty sure the code just let me vote a second time in this poll. Exile a couple of weeks ago, The Rolling Stones Now! this time.

Rock Hardy, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 14:23 (sixteen years ago) link

As it would happen, i just finished compiling a personal MP3 compilation covering their discography through the mid 80s. In assembling the mix, i pulled in various outtakes and singles (and b-sides) and buried them into the most appropriate album folder so some of those albums are artificially bloated, but still, representative of the era. The winnowing process took a few days but finally resulted in about 6 hours of music that fit onto a single CDR.

Looking over the tracklist today, i see a suprisingly healthy dose from 1964's 12 x 5, both 1965's ...Now & Out Of Our Minds, 1976's Black and Blue and, of all things, 1983's Tattoo You. The most fertile ground comes from 1965 where no less than three albums-worth of material amply covers their most defining period. At the end of the day, however, i can't help but nod to the refinement found in 1968 and 1969 (Let It Bleed) with my final vote going to Beggars Banquet (which is represented by numerous alternate, live, and various heretofore "lost" tracks -- but damn, how could two separate versions of "Memo to Turner" ever be wrong???).

christoff, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 16:19 (sixteen years ago) link

this thing will finally close tomorrow.

Yeah, I think I accidentally voted twice in a poll before, but I was drunk so I kept my mouth shut 'cause sometimes I don't remember too good, see? I'm also darn sure that I've voted in this poll before and was just now able to cast another vote (for Exile, if we're keeping count).

kingkongvsgodzilla, Thursday, 31 May 2007 02:59 (sixteen years ago) link

I never felt like the Stones were a very good 'album band'... but I'm going to go with Satanic Majesty, which I think is the most consistent and a hugely underrated album. This one needs a critical re-evaluation.

Richard Wood Johnson, Thursday, 31 May 2007 03:34 (sixteen years ago) link

Awesome, I just voted a third time! Whatever the code problem is, I'm all for this ballot-box stuffing.

Rock Hardy, Thursday, 31 May 2007 03:38 (sixteen years ago) link

I voted Out Of Our Heads, since I played that one last, and quite enjoyed it.

Between The Buttons (UK). I don't expect it to win.

Dr.C, Thursday, 31 May 2007 11:42 (sixteen years ago) link

would've voted for 'the rolling stones' (which isn't the same album as 'england's newest hitmakers'), which is the one i listen to most these days.

Just noticing how many "BB" album titles they had: BB, BtheB, B&B, BtoB and aBB.

Too bad they were beaten to Blonde on Blonde, Back in Black or Beaucoups of Blues.

They ended their concert with Cherry Oh Baby? What an odd choice

Panaïs Pnin (The Yellow Kid), Monday, 26 November 2012 21:46 (eleven years ago) link

that was my mistake, Yellow Kid. That was playing on the PA as people filed out!

Iago Galdston, Monday, 26 November 2012 21:47 (eleven years ago) link

I guess Street Fighting Man is a little too risky to play these days, lol

Iago Galdston, Monday, 26 November 2012 21:48 (eleven years ago) link

I dunno if this is the thread for it but I finally saw Crossfire Hurricane and while the interview content isn't necessarily anything new, goddamn I loved some of that footage (no not just naked mick bending over in front of the camera O_O). also cool to get more horse's mouth stuff from Taylor, even if it's stuff I already knew.
