Yup, fairly predictable (maybe other than Cut Copy at 4?) though better than 26-50 was. Can anyone tell me anything about dj/rupture?

DJ Mencap, I don't remember seeing buzz about Mae Shi anywhere outside of pitchfork; maybe one of their pet faves/projects? Not sure though.

Yay Mae Shi! That album is incredible and incredibly slept-on. I put it on my Pazz And Jop ballot in 2007—which would make it pretty much the only time in my life I can rightfully say "FIRST!" about anything, for whatever that's worth

6. Mike Doughty: "More Bacon Than the Pan Can Handle"'

there are some decent songs on that album but wow that one is awful

I'm pretty surprised the Jamie Lidell album didn't make the Pitchfork top 50 at all.

ilxor, Friday, 19 December 2008 16:14 (fifteen years ago) link

I mean, as a neo-soul album on Warp Records that's eons better than Multiply, his last record (which I think was on the 2005 Pfork list), I'd have expected Jim to have done pretty well. It's probably the most purely enjoyable record I've heard all year, besides.

ilxor, Friday, 19 December 2008 16:15 (fifteen years ago) link

wtf is fleet foxes

The Brainwasher, Friday, 19 December 2008 16:15 (fifteen years ago) link

I'm listening to that Al Green album finally, and am realizing any album list that has the Jamie Lidell instead of this is MAD SUSPECT

^^ good catch, i missed that. i thought maybe Xgau would pass over their album because he big-upped the 3-song EP over the album in the consumer guide.

e|t|c (some dude), Friday, 19 December 2008 16:55 (fifteen years ago) link

But after a second look, he must be talking about the EP.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Friday, 19 December 2008 17:01 (fifteen years ago) link

haha oh yeah. kinda silly IMO, since 2/3rds of the songs are also on the album, and the other 8 on the album far outweigh the 1 good non-album EP track, but still, cool of him to list them.

e|t|c (some dude), Friday, 19 December 2008 17:02 (fifteen years ago) link

This is the first year in awhile that I didn't roll my eyes at PFM's #1 album pick. Not my favorite album of the year, but at least it isn't Joanna Newsom (or Panda Bear).

Mordy, Friday, 19 December 2008 17:09 (fifteen years ago) link

Wait, it isn't?

Matt DC, Friday, 19 December 2008 17:11 (fifteen years ago) link

I thought Panda Bear was a pretty good thing for a website to call album of the year

touch me i'm usic (Whiney G. Weingarten), Friday, 19 December 2008 17:13 (fifteen years ago) link

The Panda Bear album was my least favorite album to come out that year.

Mordy, Friday, 19 December 2008 17:14 (fifteen years ago) link

I mean you're right it was no Daughtry

touch me i'm usic (Whiney G. Weingarten), Friday, 19 December 2008 17:19 (fifteen years ago) link

FWIW, my list.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 19 December 2008 17:56 (fifteen years ago) link

Your list is a bunch of TL;DR?

Yay!

Ned Raggett, Friday, 19 December 2008 18:04 (fifteen years ago) link

well, i rolled my eyes at fleet foxes, but that's just cuz i hate them. it was pretty damn predictable actually. thought it was nice Badu was high up there, did they even review that record?

I Pitchfork not going to post individual writers' lists this year? Or did I miss them?

Dan S, Friday, 19 December 2008 18:32 (fifteen years ago) link

You missed them: http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/article/feature/148119-2008-albums-of-the-year-individual-lists

This is the first year in awhile that I didn't roll my eyes at PFM's #1 album pick. Not my favorite album of the year, but at least it isn't Joanna Newsom (or Panda Bear) Sufjan Stevens.

Corrected.

ilxor, Friday, 19 December 2008 18:39 (fifteen years ago) link

Thanks Matos

Dan S, Friday, 19 December 2008 18:40 (fifteen years ago) link

hmm, of montreal was on four lists, pretty high up on a few. compare this with, say, #50 ponytail, which was on two lists.

suggesteban loaiza (k3vin k.), Friday, 19 December 2008 18:41 (fifteen years ago) link

Looks like while the Fleet Foxes album was #1 overall, it was only placed #1 on a single writer's individual list. By comparison, Deerhunter and Cut Copy were placed #1 on three lists apiece, while Hercules and Love Affair, Earth and Arthur Russell all placed #1 on two writers' lists apiece.
