Caul fat is the fatty membrane which surrounds internal organs of some animals, such as cows, sheep, and pigs, also known as the greater omentum.

http://img24.imageshack.us/img24/4294/34252931.jpg

It is often used as a natural sausage casing and to encase fegatelli (Italian), faggots (English), or pâté (French). Caul fat is also known as Lace Fat.

OMG, that caul shit is scary!!! Never seen that before. High octane nightmare fuel!
BTW, I've always wanted to try cock flavored soup! heheheheheh

I think the caul fat is quite beautiful, especially if I pretend it's made out of lace and not bovine innards.

for real disgusting caul-related stuff, look up pictures of babies being born in a caul (amniotic sac). newborn human babies emerging from gelatinous frog eggs...it ain't right.

why delonge face? (unregistered), Monday, 25 July 2011 05:00 (twelve years ago) link

When I googled caul, I saw pics of babies born in caul. Pretty sickening, especially the woman giving birth looking like she's defecating at the same time. I thought I had pretty much seen every trypophobic image, but then the caul, and I wanted to take my brain out and soak it in bleach, as they say ...

buffandmaxsmom, Monday, 25 July 2011 06:16 (twelve years ago) link

According to medical literature (Stephen King novels), babies born with a caul have second sight.

Liberace was born in a caul. I don't think he had second sight though.

Neurocysticercosis affects 50 million worldwide, presenting as headaches and acute onset seizures, and even observant jews regularly get it, if their food has been handled by infected individuals.

Seroprevalence of cysticercosis in an Orthodox Jewish community. Am J Trop Med Hyg. 1995 Nov;53(5):439-42.

Cysticercosis antibodies were detected in 23 (1.3%) of 1,789 persons from 612 families...Exposure to T. solium in this community is unexpectedly high. Widespread employment of domestic workers from endemic regions and high employee turnover contributes to exposure risk.

buffandmaxsmom, what are your favorite strategies finding trypophobia images? in the past I just googled whatever came to mind — "porous sac", "thousands of tiny holes", "perforated tissue", "Seal's face" — but I'm starting to run out of inspiration, starting to wonder if there are any good medical dictionaries or thesauruses that will give me some more search terms to work with. I suppose the lazy way out is to just google "trypophobia" but then you end up with pages and pages of trite lotus breasts and surinam toads and nothing new to contribute to the field. it's always thrilling to find some obscure hole-y thing that hasn't yet been appropriated by the trypophobia community, like the caul fat thing I found a few weeks ago. but the novelty is starting to wear off lately, what can I do?

why delonge face? (unregistered), Monday, 15 August 2011 03:02 (twelve years ago) link

I get a lot of trypo images from the facebook trypo group's gallery, although the group's not allowing uploading anymore photos, the reason of which I won't explain here. The hand that was mangled in a shredder is in that gallery, and when I uploaded it here, I was temporarily banned, so unfortunately you have to be careful of what you upload in this group, which I find laughable, but I don't have any control over that. The facebook trypo group administrator started a trypo gallery in Yogile, so I get some of my material from there. A fellow facebook trypo friend started her own gallery in facebook, which is where I got the nailed pumpkin. If you periodically google certain patterns like "honeycomb" you will find new images that weren't there a few months before. Googling "trypophobia" only shows the same old shit (lotus boob, lotus pod, surinam toad). You just have to be creative and have a lot of time on your hands such as myself. BTW, those caul pics almost make me want to puke. Haven't seen anything worse than that for a while now. Good job!!! LOL ;)
