Didn't realise Sandwich was still a men-only club. Fuck letting them have the Open.

dave lool (Noodle Vague), Friday, 15 July 2011 15:57 (twelve years ago) link

You're joking? Really! Don't know why I'm surprised, it was less than 10 years ago that the club I belong to had us vote on extending membership to women. Kinda mindblowing to me as I assumed there already were women members. Then again I only ever play the course by myself, really don't do the social thing.

just came up on the radio commentary. am honestly surprised that they've been kept on the roster.

The logic here totally escapes me.

Total classic. I played 9 holes yesterday at a company outing with a new driver I won at a raffle-Cobra L4VX. im friggin killing the ball.

lol did anyone hear hazel irvine say "From Northern Ireland, Graeme McDowell has won the US Open, and Rory McIlroy too. Maybe if Darren Clarke can win this, they'll all stop fighting."

!!!

cozen, Saturday, 16 July 2011 09:13 (twelve years ago) link

i'm glad i have just been paid and wouldn't feel too bad if it was horrible and we left after a few hours.

LocalGarda, Saturday, 16 July 2011 09:20 (twelve years ago) link

sure it'll be fun regardless

how you going to do it, pick a hole and sit or pick a group and follow?

cozen, Saturday, 16 July 2011 09:24 (twelve years ago) link

haven't heard/seen a word of this whats the rumpus

who shivs a git (darraghmac), Saturday, 16 July 2011 09:26 (twelve years ago) link

darren clarke is winning but he'll have had a few pints last night no doubt.

think maybe pick a hole, though we should get there a little after the time fowler/mcilroy start, so that could be good to follow.

LocalGarda, Saturday, 16 July 2011 09:29 (twelve years ago) link

!

who shivs a git (darraghmac), Saturday, 16 July 2011 09:31 (twelve years ago) link

darragh heard if clarke wins maybe y'all will stop all the fighting

cozen, Saturday, 16 July 2011 09:32 (twelve years ago) link

who can forget the violent scenes when ronan rafferty failed to win year after year in the 80s.

LocalGarda, Saturday, 16 July 2011 09:33 (twelve years ago) link

last time i punched a prod was last night, but it was only a dead arm and he was stiffing on his rounds the cunt

who shivs a git (darraghmac), Saturday, 16 July 2011 09:34 (twelve years ago) link

doubt even d clarke could do anything with the same man tbh he's a 'terrible man' for to be in rounds with

who shivs a git (darraghmac), Saturday, 16 July 2011 09:36 (twelve years ago) link

loving this feature on the ultimate open course

9th at turnberry is gorgeous

cozen, Saturday, 16 July 2011 09:37 (twelve years ago) link

yeah great piece unlike the awful helicopter ride earlier.

did i tell the story on ilx before about clarke drinking in my local pub in dublin from 1pm till 1am the day before the irish open. had a major lol the next day reading "clarke shot an 81 in the opening round at portmarnock"

LocalGarda, Saturday, 16 July 2011 09:39 (twelve years ago) link

Haha,class.

you've got male (jim in glasgow), Saturday, 16 July 2011 09:44 (twelve years ago) link

"it's the guinness"

LocalGarda, Saturday, 16 July 2011 09:48 (twelve years ago) link

Tom Watson is just incredible. Level par for the day thru 11 holes in abysmal conditions. Ronan's bet on Fowler looking good.

pandemic, Saturday, 16 July 2011 12:11 (twelve years ago) link

Maybe Clarke had one or two last night. He was awesome today, could've had a more comfortable lead going into tomorrow but he missed a few putts.

Got a feeling about Dustin Johnson -- lot of steel to get through when he wasn't 100%.

Watson ws incredible though. Immelmann was scoring as well but I don't think the BBC cared.

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 16 July 2011 18:17 (twelve years ago) link

he jokingly said if he wins he wont be sober for a month

johnny crunch, Saturday, 16 July 2011 18:56 (twelve years ago) link

ricky really getting my hopes up re:massive bet win.

LocalGarda, Saturday, 16 July 2011 20:06 (twelve years ago) link

As for the ovations he received he laughed and replied: "I think most of the crowd identify with a guy who's not quite an athlete and likes a pint."

great quote, and he's exactly right too.

LocalGarda, Saturday, 16 July 2011 20:43 (twelve years ago) link

shot 84 today. had a 7 where I put it in the junk off the tee and took two to get out so could've been much better too

cozen, Saturday, 16 July 2011 21:30 (twelve years ago) link

I think its terrible guys like clarke and jimenez play up their tobacco and alcoho use. Won't Anybody think of the children?

Bill Magill, Sunday, 17 July 2011 05:04 (twelve years ago) link

I love how this Open has fucked with all the pre-tournament hype, Donald and Rory and Westwood nowhere, a big showing from the Americans. Guess today comes down to how much of a sesh Clarke's had last night eh?

dave lool (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 17 July 2011 07:37 (twelve years ago) link

hope not

― high functioning ilxor (cozen), Saturday, July 16, 2011

i heard this but it was one of the males, prob that dick mark james. irvine had to apologize for it later.

also had to listen to him tell us that ryo ishikawa's first name stood for "really young oriental"

no end of horrible comments from these smug bbc fucks tbh

zvookster, Sunday, 17 July 2011 11:15 (twelve years ago) link

Can't believe there are old golf pros who like to drop dodgy stereotypes.

dave lool (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 17 July 2011 11:16 (twelve years ago) link

with a cast-iron sense of security while employed on flagship national broadcasts

i am somewhat surprised.

zvookster, Sunday, 17 July 2011 11:19 (twelve years ago) link

yeah he's stormin now.

Clarke doesn't look like being forced will suit him today either

who shivs a git (darraghmac), Sunday, 17 July 2011 14:18 (twelve years ago) link

paddy power fucked up and doubled my bet (and won't refund it), so if rickie fowler wins i get about 800 pounds. if he comes top 7, get about 160

MAYBE YOU SHOULDN'T BE LIVING HERE!! (Local Garda), Sunday, 17 July 2011 14:19 (twelve years ago) link

they doubled all my bets, hence why i might want a refund.

MAYBE YOU SHOULDN'T BE LIVING HERE!! (Local Garda), Sunday, 17 July 2011 14:20 (twelve years ago) link

oh yeah, heard that really young oriental comment

awkward

maurice flitcoz (cozen), Sunday, 17 July 2011 14:34 (twelve years ago) link

oriental is still politically correct in britland afaik? please confirm this for me. i don't want to be my granny, calling pakistanis "coloured" because she thinks that's the polite term.

you've got male (jim in glasgow), Sunday, 17 July 2011 14:39 (twelve years ago) link

not that i'm throwing out oriental all the time. if i ever have reason to comment on someone's ethnicity i generally say chinese or japanese.
