Playing Rolando now. Not sure how long i'll stick with it, but it's a step forward in terms of design, music & presentation. LocoRoco with cartoon Florida oranges or not, it's still fun.

entire world seems to agree that iphone katamari is a sin against god and capitalism

TOMBOT, Thursday, 18 December 2008 09:46 (fifteen years ago) link

i liked how one wired blog yesterday had a post that was all "THIS IS BROKEN GARBAGE" (the games one) and the gadget one was like "THIS IS SIMPLY WONDERFUL!"

12 hours and sobering up later, Rolando still fun

rolando is ok but im finding it a bit frustrating control-wise.

FRENZIC on the other hand is pure awesome (and cheap as hell right now)

anyone bought fieldrunners?

cozwn, Sunday, 28 December 2008 01:59 (fifteen years ago) link

fieldrunners is so-so... found it way too easy for a tower defense game, not enough towers and shit either...

s1ocki, Sunday, 28 December 2008 03:23 (fifteen years ago) link

Been having a blast with Dropship. It's a total insane shooter a la Geometry Wars - the controls take some getting used to but I got the hang of it pretty quickly. The best part of it is that the humans you rescue have names pulled from your contact database.

So far I've rescued Admiral Raggett, Wing Command Rosen, Sgt. Chaki.

Anybody bought the full version of Touch Physics? I likes this game.

antexit, Monday, 9 February 2009 00:11 (fifteen years ago) link

is there a hack/pirate network of iphone stuff floating around yet? I don't even have the machine, just curious.

This is a serious inquiry and there may be reprecussions (forksclovetofu), Monday, 9 February 2009 01:56 (fifteen years ago) link

iphone games pretty much suck except for frenzic. i think it's a shitty platform for games. for one, tilt games are terrible. for two, my fingers get in the way of the screen or aren't accurate enough (as opposed to the DS's stylus).

s1ocki, Monday, 9 February 2009 02:34 (fifteen years ago) link

I think you can pirate pretty much any game with a certain application you load on a jailbroken phone; there's also lots of homebrew games, though I gather the market for them is lessening (except emulation) since the apps store opened.

antexit, Monday, 9 February 2009 15:38 (fifteen years ago) link

Trism is pretty good but the free Solitaire app trumps pretty much everything (although I did impulse-buy Frenzic as a result of this thread so I may be modifying that stance soon)

So. Flight Control, anyone? I seem to have hit a wall round about the 64pts mark; annoyingly, Mrs Fiendish has whupped me with 74. But I hear of people getting 200+. How?

a tiny, faltering megaphone (grimly fiendish), Thursday, 30 April 2009 10:49 (fourteen years ago) link

Bought that after being recommended it by MANY people, but find it really tedious. Drop7 is much much much better.

JimD, Thursday, 30 April 2009 11:52 (fourteen years ago) link

New update to Flight Control has autosaving, so I get past the first fifteen, save, then return later to actually play it.

Wonder too about some of these high scores: according to the new online ranking thing, I have the best score in the area and I still can't get past 90.

stet, Thursday, 30 April 2009 11:55 (fourteen years ago) link

New update to Flight Control has autosaving

OH, DOES IT? How does that work, then? The only thing I spotted was the daft score-sharing shit, which I can't be arsed registering for (also: Mrs Fiendish's score, grumble, mutter, grah).

a tiny, faltering megaphone (grimly fiendish), Thursday, 30 April 2009 12:28 (fourteen years ago) link

I second the Drop7 recommendation.

cozwn, Friday, 12 June 2009 22:53 (fourteen years ago) link

s1ocki, Friday, 12 June 2009 22:55 (fourteen years ago) link

59p on the UK store too. Buying, thanks!

if, Saturday, 13 June 2009 10:45 (fourteen years ago) link

Christ. About an hour ago, I downloaded Peggle, just to see what all the fuss was about.

I'm only off it now because Mrs Fiendish has wrested it from my grip.

That's ace, that.

a tiny, faltering megaphone (grimly fiendish), Saturday, 13 June 2009 12:29 (fourteen years ago) link

yup, it's great :)

I'd like plants vs zombies for iphone pls

Fucking hell, that looks topp. Yes, so would I.

a tiny, faltering megaphone (grimly fiendish), Saturday, 13 June 2009 13:41 (fourteen years ago) link

Yeah, promised myself I wouldn't buy iphone peggle (having bought it on three different formats already) but couldn't resist 59p.

would advance wars work well? OMG

cozwn, Monday, 15 June 2009 11:14 (fourteen years ago) link

There's a game called EndWar that claims to be Advance Wars-ish but though I d/l'ed for cheap when it came out, I've yet to play it (still too consumed by Puzzle Quest holy shit is that a great game and yes I am three years behind the curve but w/e)

not feeling the Peggle love yet - too much downtime for an iphone game

baaderonixx, Tuesday, 16 June 2009 16:08 (fourteen years ago) link

that's what i like about it. i can play it standing on the metro! also, games with a lot of controlling/touching just get my fingers in the way of hte screen.

s1ocki, Tuesday, 16 June 2009 16:39 (fourteen years ago) link

Was totally addicted to Peggle for the six or seven hours it took me to finish all the levels, then instantly got bored. The challenges are OK for the first part, but then just get too hard to be interesting.

stet, Tuesday, 16 June 2009 17:58 (fourteen years ago) link

i'm almost finished all the challenges :D

s1ocki, Tuesday, 16 June 2009 18:16 (fourteen years ago) link

Yeh, Mrs Fiendish is almost finished it (I'm not, but I've not played it nearly as much) so I guess it might be lacking in longevity somewhat. Was that true of the desktop versions as well? Only there's a big fucking difference between 59p (or even £2.99) for a lovely wee game that doesn't last long, and £14.95 for the same kind of thing.

a tiny, faltering megaphone (grimly fiendish), Tuesday, 16 June 2009 19:52 (fourteen years ago) link

(Actually: Mrs Fiendish is almost finished the main game, not the challenges. So fuck it, we've got a tonne of life left to squeeze out of it.)

a tiny, faltering megaphone (grimly fiendish), Tuesday, 16 June 2009 19:53 (fourteen years ago) link

i dig on peggle majorly but i only play it for my 20 minute subway commute

rip dom passantino 3/5/09 never forget (max), Tuesday, 16 June 2009 19:53 (fourteen years ago) link

Most of the challenges in Peggle are pretty doable but that I've never been able to nail that 750K challenge.

Nhex, Tuesday, 16 June 2009 19:54 (fourteen years ago) link

picked up let's golf ON IPHONE on sale for £0.59

is it just me or doesn't it have a framerate? it's so juddery

cozwn, Friday, 19 June 2009 09:12 (fourteen years ago) link

have to say tho for 59p it's a great little game, and still playable through the stutters

maybe it's a 2G vs 3G iphone problem. the 3G has more processing power right?

cozwn, Friday, 19 June 2009 09:19 (fourteen years ago) link

Nevermind. This is the wrong thread. Right thread is over here of course: Zing: A (beta) ILX client for Macs
