June = 264.8 miles (almost half of which was in the first 5 days, and hardly any cycling since then)

July - 423 miles. I just wish my bike wasn't making more creaks and ticks than a clock factory with wooden floorboards.

JULY
Crashed hard and spent 8 days off the bike but even still:

Aw guys - you have to share the bad months so you can triumph when it's going good!

I don't really have "numbers". track my rides v poorly

July: 285mi (plus about 100 unrecorded commuting miles) 16,900ft ascent.

Didn't ride for 8 days post-being-hit-by-car and most of my racing was short-distance track stuff. Really feeling like the long days are slipping away too fast :/

yeah but you live in Cali so

Couldn't post before (on holiday), but July for me was 362 miles. Total for August up until this morning was 0, but did a 43.5 mile ride today.

My heart goes out to the people of platitudes (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Wednesday, 10 August 2011 16:36 (twelve years ago) link

three weeks pass...

August: 364 miles

BUT that doesn't really tell the story. August was a very strange month. No cycling at all for the first nine days (foreign holiday), 362 miles in the middle 18 days (so at a rate that would have given 626 miles for the month), and then no cycling at all for the final four days (due to crash). Those 13 days of inactivity have left my year-to-date total falling behind the 2010 equivalent for the first time since February.

I think I have done MAYBE 80 miles this month but it's all been mountain biking so there's gotta be a multiplier or something right

257 for September, less than half August's total, but I have my shoulder to blame.

Sick Mouthy (Scik Mouthy), Saturday, 1 October 2011 02:35 (twelve years ago) link

282 for September, fair enough considering I did nothing for the first week while recovering from a crash.

413 miles for September for me. Rubbish commuting, but the trip to Holland made it respectable.

Just 252 miles for October, slipping ever further behind last year's total.

364 miles in October, getting there.

lukas, Monday, 31 October 2011 03:36 (twelve years ago) link

310 miles in October, assuming I just take the simple route home tonight. A bit disappointing - just haven't had much incentive to extend my route lately. Meh.

Mark C, Monday, 31 October 2011 11:16 (twelve years ago) link

317 miles for October. Would have passed 400 easily if not for last weekend's crash.

Sick Mouthy (Scik Mouthy), Monday, 31 October 2011 13:23 (twelve years ago) link

Season's done so switched back to base training with climbing. These tallies might get weird because I've just started running and not sure if it's parsed out or not.

October
582 miles
34k feet of climbing

two months pass...

170 miles in November and 253 miles in December. Maybe not all that impressive, but both about double the 2010 totals which meant I managed to claw my way back and exceed my 2010 annual total right at the death.

The Wichita Referee's Assistant (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Monday, 2 January 2012 22:09 (twelve years ago) link

2011 total: 3,597 (35 miles more than 2010)

120 rides, mean distance 29.98 miles, mode 28.3 miles.

Longest ride 71 miles.

The Wichita Referee's Assistant (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Monday, 2 January 2012 22:12 (twelve years ago) link

I did 3015 miles in the saddle in 2011, having done 839 in the last five months of 2010, after I got my first bike in a decade in July 2010.

234 miles in November, 391 miles in December, which was my third highest monthly total (518 in August and 407 in July). In December last year I rode only 19 miles; mind you, it was 26 degrees warmer (centigrade) this Boxing Day than last year - it wasn't riding weather at -14. I rode at least 10 miles every day from 21st December to 2nd January, covering well over 250 miles in that time.

Sick Mouthy (Scik Mouthy), Tuesday, 3 January 2012 10:24 (twelve years ago) link

Oh, and 98 workouts from July 2010 to end of 2010, and 242 in 2011.

Ascended 92198 feet in 2011.

Sick Mouthy (Scik Mouthy), Tuesday, 3 January 2012 10:28 (twelve years ago) link

229 hours and 24 min utes in the saddle in 2011.

Sick Mouthy (Scik Mouthy), Tuesday, 3 January 2012 10:29 (twelve years ago) link

4,131 miles in 2011
3,893 miles in 2010
4,036 miles in 2009

I think I've reached stability. Very few long rides this year, no sportives at all, but three night rides partly made up for it. No reason to think that, barring injury, it should be any different in 2012.

Mark C, Tuesday, 3 January 2012 14:04 (twelve years ago) link

I did manage at least 300 miles every month apart from December, which was a tiny goal of sorts.

Mark C, Tuesday, 3 January 2012 14:05 (twelve years ago) link

This year I want to do more miles than last year overall, ideally as close to 4000 as possible. I also want to do more long rides; I've rarely gone over 50 miles, and most rides are 20ish.

Sick Mouthy (Scik Mouthy), Tuesday, 3 January 2012 14:30 (twelve years ago) link

not actually sure what I've done this year but it's only around 1500miles, which is poor. I need to pick one recording device and stick with it, that's for sure.

I've set 3000miles as a target for this year (getting out on non-commutes is bloody difficult with kids)which will include at least one multi-day thing (potentially a couple of TdF stage finishes in July) and a few night rides - the December one was freaking ace.... and a bit cold; down to -4, but dry fortunately.

Cycle computers, from $5 up to GPS units. Also you can us things like the strava App to log on your smart phone.

I use an app and website called Endomondo(.com). There are probably better for cycling specifically, but this tracks other sports too, which I found useful.

Sick Mouthy (Scik Mouthy), Friday, 6 January 2012 18:27 (twelve years ago) link

I use this and log each ride in a spreadsheet. Because I like spreadsheets.
