Let's bitch about our stupid, annoying co-workers

one pet peeve is people who are all smug about how well they "multitask" or how they don't need to take notes during meetings, except when push comes to shove, it's unitasking/note-taking me that gets shit right cuz i was paying attention all along.

multi-tasking often means "attention deficit disorder"

Myopia in the workplace

& (a you), Thursday, 30 June 2011 19:18 (twelve years ago) link

Not to get picky all over your IA because every IA is aggravating in its own way, but if I'm inheriting a project from someone, I'd sure like them to take the time to walk me through their work and thought processes to date.

these were questions she was asking assuming it was another job, and even if it was the job she was looking at, half her questions would have been answered by... LOOKING. AT. IT. just for a few mere seconds. i don't know what an IA is, btw but i think you're assuming i have some kind of job i do not.

and she wasn't taking the project over for that matter either. it's basically her job to take the file i built, make sure the copy is right and get the creatives and account team to sign off on it, then give it back.

Oh sorry, I forgot this was the co-workers thread, an IA is an "irrational annoyance". The other thing is that I work with someone who's super hardcore about being asked questions and half the time I think he's hating me somewhere right behind his eyes.

you're in the club and the light hits your ass like pow (Laurel), Thursday, 30 June 2011 19:31 (twelve years ago) link

ha ha - this is no IA. it was basically an ad she decided to literally not look at and instead come over and ask a bazillion irrelevant questions about.

which were all answered (or rendered null) immediately upon returning to her desk and glancing at what i had given her.

I'll come to Canada and slap her for you.

We rolled out a new tool today, and upon arrival, I see the introductory email, explaining I should have gotten a new ID/password yesterday.

Of course, I didn't, and on reading the FAQ they published weeks ago, it tells us we use our existing I'd and password. I try it, it doesn't work, so I call our help desk.

The help desk line appears to have malfunctioned, as after five separate tries, it goes to dead air after the intro message, instead of bringing up menu options, and hitting the keypad does nothing.

I have to then manually start a ticket via email to get this fixed. And...we are required to run something in this new tool today.

I emailed the person who sent the email today to ask about the contradictory info in the two documents, and she says she can't get into the tool, then contradicts the email she sent today and says we should use existing IDs/passwords.

Look, I'm forgiving about hiccups when something new is rolled out, but there's a diff between that and flat out disorganization...and as a result, the Support Center is now overloaded.

Ugh.

I had problems earlier in the week with my most direct colleague, who through a series of meetings and memos, demonstrated that he was completely unable to string together a coherent sentence that could represent any idea that he might have been trying to express. Yesterday, 10 minutes before I had to leave, another coworker approached me with a question and she was similarly unable to speak English in any meaningful way. So I just turned her loose on him. Expecting fallout this morning.

Ok, my guy who couldn't keep his shit together earlier in the week totally redeemed himself on this one. Feel like a bit of an asshole for anonymously bitching about him on the internet.

My coworker who never puts anything into other people's leaving collections, not even when someone he was super chatty and matey with left after being kind of screwed over by mgmt, is leaving, and the large amount of money in his leaving collection is upsetting my need for a simplistic karma-based universe

(ps he is not super poor or anything, or if he is maybe he wouldn't be if he didn't get a new smartphone every 3 seconds and go abroad multiple times a year)

anyway I hope his new job does not think he is quite so goddamn awesome and his new boss might notice that he starts his 9-5:30 job at 9:47 every day and still goes before 5

yes this is the guy I revived the "bitterness" thread over, though no, he wasn't the first and he won't be the last to make me so irrationally goddamn fz"£*$"£ oh god i hate my brain, can anyone help me fix it? please.

is there any way you can volunteer to be the one to buy the gift? someone my wife works with once did this for somebody who had been giving him the shits for years. he took all the collected $$ and bought a truly gigantic roll of glad-wrap from a catering suplies company.

Or buy one of those "I bought a goat for the village" charity cards.

Put your fucking shoes back on! That's disgusting. This is a fucking professional office and you shouldn't be walking all over it in bare feet. So IA right now over this.

Or buy one of those "I bought a goat for the village" charity cards.

Oh man, I wish I'd done this, except I wouldn't have dared

anyway, much as I enjoy hating him for getting away with things nobody else could and still apparently charming everyone, I'll probably even miss him, because they're putting the most annoying person in the department in the seat he's left, 2 feet behind me

my future officemate wandered in with a glass of orange juice earlier and I had no idea it was possible to make so many disgusting lipsmacking noises for 200ml of liquid, ugh

If we all worked with drunk Liz Hurley do you think we'd be on this thread complaining?

boxall, Friday, 8 July 2011 21:25 (twelve years ago) link

Had a work BBQ last night, got a bit tipsy and told a few people i thought they were a little rude for blanking me in the office, they seemed horrified and apologized. Now I feel bad for mentioning it.

Thought I'd check this thread and see if someone had put "who the hell does the new guy think he is, getting drunk and telling me I'm rude"

Should be interesting in a couple of hours when I get to work :/

not_goodwin, Friday, 15 July 2011 06:19 (twelve years ago) link

This is why I cant bring myself to get drunk in front of (at least my current) workmates, ha. I run off at the mouth so easy when Ive had a few :(

Bloompsday (Trayce), Friday, 15 July 2011 06:21 (twelve years ago) link

I must add, none of them are annoying yet.

I don't even understand how popcorn is appealing when its nearly 100 degrees outside.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Tuesday, 19 July 2011 13:58 (twelve years ago) link

manager in email: "hi everyone, we've just pushed payroll day forward a day!"

... thanks for advising us of this THE DAY BEFORE PAYDAY. Now I have to stretch to an extra day with zero spare cash :(

Bloompsday (Trayce), Wednesday, 20 July 2011 00:41 (twelve years ago) link

wouldn't 'forward' mean earlier?

my ex once had her bosses change salary payment from fortnightly in advance to fortnightly in arrears THE WEEK BEFORE CHRISTMAS.

koogs, Wednesday, 20 July 2011 06:59 (twelve years ago) link

I meant forward in the week sense, so Friday instead of Thurs. But yeah ugh.

Bloompsday (Trayce), Wednesday, 20 July 2011 07:03 (twelve years ago) link

Just one day... wait, just four hours, without the stench of nasty burnt popcorn would be fucking amazing.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Wednesday, 20 July 2011 14:26 (twelve years ago) link

I am appalled at this waste of precious resources, money is tight and here is some spoiled person demanding reimbursements on, like, McDonald's milkshakes and the like, also academic conferences for personal enrichment that are not work-related.

Just because her old boss apparently had money to burn doesn't mean she can demand this shit here. You want lunch, save money, eat in the food court.

YO MAMA. (Mount Cleaners), Wednesday, 20 July 2011 14:35 (twelve years ago) link

That sounds ridiculous. But, wait, your lunches get reimbursed?

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Wednesday, 20 July 2011 14:39 (twelve years ago) link

If we're on conference for work or going on a business trip / meeting, all lunches / dinners - even alcoholic drinks - are reimbursed. That is generous enough.

However some people try to scam free lunches in the name of "professional enhancement"...excuse me that is your personal enhancement, it's not in the interests of your employer.

YO MAMA. (Mount Cleaners), Wednesday, 20 July 2011 15:18 (twelve years ago) link

Gotcha. I'm with you, surprised they even reimburse alcohol, that is pretty generous.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Wednesday, 20 July 2011 15:21 (twelve years ago) link

sorta makes sense - you can write booze off if it's to entertain clients.

(thank you gov't of Canada for my partially subsidized scotch collection)

Yeah, they even serve beer and wine in house but only after four o'clock. Who can say no to free beer and wine? I'm surprised some religious teetotaller doesn't sue!

I usually don't indulge though, I am one of the more conservative people in the office and am always worried word will get out that I got drunk at work.

YO MAMA. (Mount Cleaners), Wednesday, 20 July 2011 15:39 (twelve years ago) link

Okay popcorn girl is talking, loudly, about going to a comedy show last night and this phrase verbatim came out of her mouth, "I had no idea what to expect at a comedy show". It was really really difficult to hold back on that one.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Wednesday, 20 July 2011 18:58 (twelve years ago) link

she's kind of really opening herself up there.

are you just jealous you don't get to go to conferences?
xpost

tehresa, Wednesday, 20 July 2011 23:13 (twelve years ago) link
