That was fuckin' hard to listen to.

polyphonic, Tuesday, 28 June 2011 17:48 (twelve years ago) link

I'm not excited about this anymore

Ktulu says, I've come to hate my body (wk), Tuesday, 28 June 2011 17:50 (twelve years ago) link

winoa ryder sexes creatures of the night (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 28 June 2011 17:50 (twelve years ago) link

I can't even tell what key that's supposed to be in

winoa ryder sexes creatures of the night (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 28 June 2011 17:51 (twelve years ago) link

I love the huge boo in the middle of the two cheers.

polyphonic, Tuesday, 28 June 2011 17:52 (twelve years ago) link

i believe that's the audience doing the "louuuuuuuu" thing. happens at all of his shows.

tylerw, Tuesday, 28 June 2011 17:52 (twelve years ago) link

i dunno, sounded like a perfectly serviceable hard rock version of sweet jane to me!

tylerw, Tuesday, 28 June 2011 17:54 (twelve years ago) link

I'm with the "That was fucking brutal" crowd.

EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 28 June 2011 17:55 (twelve years ago) link

I do kinda love how this is just par for the course for a guy who's whole career is a string of alternating sellout/contrarian moves

winoa ryder sexes creatures of the night (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 28 June 2011 17:57 (twelve years ago) link

b-b-but hetfield doing the "sweeet jaaane-aaaagghhhh" backing vocals! hammett's guitar center solos! ulrich's face!
ok maybe it wasn't great.

tylerw, Tuesday, 28 June 2011 17:58 (twelve years ago) link

Earlier this week I made myself a "Worst of Lou Reed" mix and frankly there was a lot of competition.

polyphonic, Tuesday, 28 June 2011 17:58 (twelve years ago) link

ooh gimme

winoa ryder sexes creatures of the night (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 28 June 2011 17:59 (twelve years ago) link

I'm with the "That was fucking brutal" crowd.

i think the metal crowd & the melodic jams crowd understand "fucking brutal" differently though

devoted to boats (schlump), Tuesday, 28 June 2011 18:04 (twelve years ago) link

I seriously cannot make out any actual notes or chords apart from that horrible soloing Richie Sambora is doing

winoa ryder sexes creatures of the night (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 28 June 2011 18:07 (twelve years ago) link

Brutal meaning bad, not brutal meaning good.

polyphonic, Tuesday, 28 June 2011 18:07 (twelve years ago) link

perfectly serviceable!

And the piano, it sounds like a carnivore (contenderizer), Tuesday, 28 June 2011 18:09 (twelve years ago) link

Not going to pay attention to this anymore until I hear the wonderful Pomplamoose videosong ironic cover versions.

Retweet From The Sun (James Redd and the Blecchs), Tuesday, 28 June 2011 18:09 (twelve years ago) link

I'm in both crowds but that was brutal bad.

EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 28 June 2011 18:10 (twelve years ago) link

like, fit for service. if i walked into a large sports bar on a thursday night and heard a band of codgers playing this, i would be happy that they at least get a night out.

which part of that sentence is supposed to be a good thing?

Ktulu says, I've come to hate my body (wk), Tuesday, 28 June 2011 18:47 (twelve years ago) link

i was not terribly offended by it?

tylerw, Tuesday, 28 June 2011 18:49 (twelve years ago) link

Is there any way to do a hard-rock cover of Sweet Jane that is more than serviceable?

Let me tell you something about that song. (Eazy), Tuesday, 28 June 2011 20:12 (twelve years ago) link

Is there any way for a person to refrain from doing a hard-rock cover of Sweet Jane?

Ktulu says, I've come to hate my body (wk), Tuesday, 28 June 2011 21:02 (twelve years ago) link

by playing a hard rock cover of "I Love You Suzanne"?

winoa ryder sexes creatures of the night (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 28 June 2011 21:05 (twelve years ago) link

do you guys not like this or something? this is a great hard rock version of sweet jane.

also some great mustaches in that video.

tylerw, Tuesday, 28 June 2011 21:09 (twelve years ago) link

oh man that Paris show

winoa ryder sexes creatures of the night (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 28 June 2011 21:09 (twelve years ago) link

anyway it's more like a funk version tbh

winoa ryder sexes creatures of the night (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 28 June 2011 21:10 (twelve years ago) link

god Lou looks amazing though

winoa ryder sexes creatures of the night (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 28 June 2011 21:12 (twelve years ago) link

yeah it's almost like a headhunters song in the intro.

tylerw, Tuesday, 28 June 2011 21:13 (twelve years ago) link

feel like we could poll the mustaches alone in that clip

winoa ryder sexes creatures of the night (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 28 June 2011 21:15 (twelve years ago) link

Those stage moves Reed is featuring in that Paris video are some of the worst of all time. And i've had the (mis)fortune of seeing Metallica with Rob Trujillo live.

Er, "amazing" is one word for it. Not exactly the description i would use. "Amazingly shitty" maybe?

Thraft of Cleveland (Bill Magill), Tuesday, 28 June 2011 21:20 (twelve years ago) link

xp haha, yeah -- james brown he is not.

tylerw, Tuesday, 28 June 2011 21:21 (twelve years ago) link

nah I love Lou's bleached insectoid phase

winoa ryder sexes creatures of the night (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 28 June 2011 21:25 (twelve years ago) link

do you guys not like this or something? this is a great hard rock version of sweet jane.

uh, no that's not my favorite version of Sweet Jane, and not really hard rock either. that riff can get so plodding in the wrong hands. I think it's the kind of thing that maybe really limited musicians who are having a lot of fun just playing the riff over and over do a good job with, but more accomplished musicians that get bored with it or feel the need to wail on top just kind of accentuate the monotony of it.

Ktulu says, I've come to hate my body (wk), Tuesday, 28 June 2011 21:55 (twelve years ago) link

fair enough -- seems to me the rock n roll animal period is about as hard rock as lou got -- but the dudes in lou's band there are pretty accomplished session guys, i'd say.

tylerw, Tuesday, 28 June 2011 21:59 (twelve years ago) link

Some of his later songs are harder than anything on Rock n Roll Animal.

Not BETTER, but HARDER

polyphonic, Tuesday, 28 June 2011 22:03 (twelve years ago) link

yeah, i mean i'm just saying hard rock as in alice cooper i think.

tylerw, Tuesday, 28 June 2011 22:07 (twelve years ago) link

"sweeet jaaane-aaaagghhhh"

have & probably will not listen (for multiple reasons), but mainly to preserve the crystalline absurdity of how I am envisioning this.

buffandmaxsgaydad (Pillbox), Tuesday, 28 June 2011 22:12 (twelve years ago) link

ok wtf is that raven track, i might have to check that album out

the beta banned (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Tuesday, 28 June 2011 22:27 (twelve years ago) link

the raven has some cool stuff on it! and some terrrrrrrible stuff.
weirdly, i just learned about this...

guess the world demanded a graphic novel based on lou reed's album based on edgar allen poe.
