so i had a bit of a sabbatical from ladytron that ended today when i heard them in the coffee shop by my place.

"Burning Up" is fucking blowing my mind right now.

two months pass...

Sad to say fell off the Ladytron bandwagon but am now back on after listening to this http://open.spotify.com/album/2JMPfwD9sExl3gzIZd9Bpk

Yeah new album sounds great.

two weeks pass...

Only a few songs in, but the new one sounds like it's copping a Blanck Mass feel?

Not a huge fan, but I kind of like how floaty this one sounds.

Not a huge fan of Ladytron, I mean.

Helen Marnie is doing an online fundraiser for a solo album.

The perks get interesting around 300 GBP (or $487). I guess "worn by me" premiums are officially a thing now, and not just something Nataly Dawn does/did.

She could surely charge twice that if she promised not to launder. (._.)

Claudia Schiffer Kills Frog (Leee), Monday, 17 September 2012 03:47 (eleven years ago) link

Wow, she's a day in and already at 58% of the goal WITHOUT any of the big ticket stuff getting claimed yet.

She could surely charge twice that if she promised not to launder. (._.)

For some reason I was thinking about this, and I realized that since she was in the water for presumably most of the shoot, the pool chemicals would probably override her natural, er, "essences", which would be reason enough to get it cleaned.

this thread took a weird turn

a self-reinforcing downward spiral of male-centric indie (katherine), Wednesday, 13 April 2016 23:12 (eight years ago) link

pretending that didn't happen

I think Reuben Wu is still wandering around doing photography, not sure if more Ladytron stuff is coming but I had a good morning listening to their albums

μpright mammal (mh), Wednesday, 13 April 2016 23:15 (eight years ago) link

Electroclash seems to belong to this weird other-time in my mind. Like it was forgotten as a post-traumatic memory of 9/11.

larry appleton, Thursday, 14 April 2016 04:36 (eight years ago) link

Seventeen is still a great song.

larry appleton, Thursday, 14 April 2016 04:37 (eight years ago) link

when i heard the song that riffs on the "are you being served" theme, i knew these were my people

lute bro (brimstead), Thursday, 14 April 2016 04:46 (eight years ago) link

I don't even really consider ladytron electroclash -- the stuff pre-witching hour might as well not exist to me

a self-reinforcing downward spiral of male-centric indie (katherine), Thursday, 14 April 2016 04:58 (eight years ago) link

Light & Magic isn't a bad album. Still sounds fresh today, with all the minimal wave, cold wave, druggy stuff going on lately. It's weird that after nearly 20 years, the 80s retro thing hasn't died out yet.

larry appleton, Thursday, 14 April 2016 05:14 (eight years ago) link

604!

μpright mammal (mh), Thursday, 14 April 2016 13:42 (eight years ago) link

I really Ladytron but out of their five albums, I only really rate two of them. Witching Hour is close to being a perfect record and 604 is very strong, apart from those they're frustratingly patchy on record.

Kitchen Person, Thursday, 14 April 2016 14:42 (eight years ago) link

Witching Hour is close to being a perfect record

put this album on 34 mins ago cos of this thread revival, not heard it in years - and even then i only listened to it a couple of times.
it's the only album of ladytrons i have.
will be playing it a lot more often from hereon.
hits a lot of my sweet spots

mark e, Thursday, 14 April 2016 14:48 (eight years ago) link

velocifero and gravity the seducer are also underrated

a self-reinforcing downward spiral of male-centric indie (katherine), Thursday, 14 April 2016 15:43 (eight years ago) link

I agree, I listened to Gravity The Seducer the other night and think there's plenty of good stuff on it... 'Moon Palace' probably one of my favourite Ladytron tracks! I like the first two albums, but it's hard to argue with the idea that they came into their own and started realising their potential on Witching Hour

We are proud to announce our first new music since 2011.
Find out all about it, and how you can be involved.
This will be an exciting year. Love, Ladytron XXXXhttps://t.co/DM2GT0ZImQ

Yes! About fucking time ... what did people think of the two Marnie solo records that came out during the hiatus?

Full of bile and Blue Nile denial (Turrican), Wednesday, 28 February 2018 16:48 (six years ago) link

I liked them, the first better than the second. that said, I can't listen to the record anymore -- I got a lot of angry email about what I thought was a positive review, and every time one of the songs comes up on shuffle I'm reminded of it and have to turn it off

algorithm is a dancer (katherine), Wednesday, 28 February 2018 17:00 (six years ago) link

Nice to have them back although, come on, this sounds exactly like Broadcast!

daavid, Wednesday, 28 February 2018 18:19 (six years ago) link

Cool, I've missed them. And I didn't know about the solo albums so now I've got something to listen to while I wait for the new record to come out.

sounds kinda velocifero-y to me.

KevRus, Friday, 2 March 2018 21:03 (six years ago) link

Prefer the album teaser to the actual single, but am pretty stoked nonetheless

Google Atheist (Le Bateau Ivre), Friday, 2 March 2018 21:59 (six years ago) link

ok thank god the album teaser had me worried, if I want to listen to Broadcast then I listen to Broadcast or any of the 100 bands that sound like them already

update: this is growing on me even more, it's easily the best thing anyone from ladytron has done in years

I still need to listen with proper speakers but so far it sounds great! It reminds me of Propaganda.

Agreed, this sounds really good.

lbi's life of limitless european glamour (Le Bateau Ivre), Friday, 17 August 2018 12:55 (five years ago) link

Yes! I've been looking forward to this. Marnie's solo albums have both been very good, mind.

Le Baton Rose (Turrican), Friday, 17 August 2018 13:12 (five years ago) link

Slight adoption of the retro outrun synthwave vibe in there somewhere? Quite like this

five months pass...

the new album is out, and it's...a trip.

the highs are high, the lows are low (sometimes very low), and the overall production is...uhh...weird.

but I'm kinda digging it. 'Deadzone,' 'You've Changed,' and 'Paper Highways' are pretty fun.

KevRus, Saturday, 2 February 2019 06:46 (five years ago) link

The leaked tracks really didn’t impress. Still, I pledged to get the physical edition so looking forward to it. Love the cover art

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Saturday, 2 February 2019 07:44 (five years ago) link

ok I've warmed up to this a lot, and I now think it's actually pretty fantastic. Like 'Witching Hour,' this feels like a quintessentially 'winter' album, and I'm here for it.

KevRus, Thursday, 7 February 2019 17:49 (five years ago) link

unsurprisingly, I love it, it's like velocifero but even angrier

the album art is also amazing

end to end bangers

good record

nxd, Monday, 11 February 2019 11:01 (five years ago) link

It's a grower. Some good hooks but is it me or is this record brick-walled to death? Pretty disappointing since the music often blurs into a flat mush.
Song wise it feels like a slight throwback to the pre-Witching Hour period. This could have come out after Light & Magic
