Pictureplane has a brief but solid history of completely sucking, so I'm in no way suprised it's him.

reminds me of ok computer! right down to the font

johnny fever, where do you "go" for music? surprises me that you're even aware of pictureplane - he's basically the Head Boy at the local Denver DIY venue I go to near every weekend. And agreed, I sort of hate him - in music and real life.

kelpolaris, Saturday, 25 June 2011 21:51 (twelve years ago) link

reason for latter: he epitomizes the "condescending hipster stare", reserved a lot for me as i'm typically plain-clothes and admittedly am always conscious of looking "out of my environment" whenever i go to these places.

kelpolaris, Saturday, 25 June 2011 21:53 (twelve years ago) link

Stereogum went nutballs over Pictureplane a while back, so that's where I found out about him. Shortly after that, I stopped even visiting Stereogum.

The Dave Matthews Band did this! Either way, I know what you mean... It was a chillwave inevitability.

Walter Galt, Sunday, 26 June 2011 00:45 (twelve years ago) link

Picture plane wins. I kind of miss having both a good and bad sleeve thread.

The Nighty Nite / Dimples -- I know nothing of this, but like the cover. Like the lowest-budget Windowlicker remake ever

tiger & woods is worst new band name

Don't start the chain you know? (forksclovetofu), Monday, 27 June 2011 04:40 (twelve years ago) link

they put out their first 12" within a week or two of the Tiger Woods Thanksgiving weekend scandal happening, and since most of their shit is unlicensed re-edits, they had to adopt a ~mysterious~ identity. i think the tiger woods thing was a dumb joke that just stuck after the success of the first release.

(they've done stuff as Cleo & Patra and Pop & Eye too.)

gr8080, Monday, 27 June 2011 05:33 (twelve years ago) link

well, at least the cover's not as bad as the name.

it's worse.

Shabazz Palaces is niiice

Trip Maker, Wednesday, 29 June 2011 19:34 (twelve years ago) link

matte black jacket feels all velvety soft, too, and the deep red inner sleeve looks amazing peeking out from within. great overall object design as well as nice imagery.

is shabazz palaces something i would like

gr8080+ (gr8080), Wednesday, 29 June 2011 21:08 (twelve years ago) link

also bjork's cover totally looks like a bjork cover

gr8080+ (gr8080), Wednesday, 29 June 2011 21:09 (twelve years ago) link

I have no idea whether you would like Shabazz Palaces but imo it is one of the best albums this year (along with DJ Quik & Beyonce).

these goons were made for waka (The Reverend), Wednesday, 29 June 2011 21:12 (twelve years ago) link

you would like it because it is good

mississippi delta law grad (Hurting 2), Wednesday, 29 June 2011 21:12 (twelve years ago) link

yeah, i think you might like it, gr8080, but that's more based on the fact that i like it and it seems p broadly accessible than any clear sense of your tastes. psychedelic indie hip hop w deep, dark, leftfield production.

Zola Jesus had to go f up a perfectly good retro cover by putting "an LP recorded in 2011" right below her name

Cosmo Vitelli, Wednesday, 29 June 2011 23:16 (twelve years ago) link

i really like the zola jesus one

dirty deathdrone boys (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 29 June 2011 23:17 (twelve years ago) link

xp Sacred Bones does that on most of their releases.

Alpaca Lips (Johnny Fever), Wednesday, 29 June 2011 23:23 (twelve years ago) link

yet to see a sacred bones sleeve i don't love xpost

edit piaf (electricsound), Wednesday, 29 June 2011 23:23 (twelve years ago) link

really like the zola jesus, suspect it will be vinyl-only and thus I'll never get to own it >sigh<

last zola jesus and most sacred bones things are on cd, why is this different?
