You can damn well were would have planned a FAP where that not the case.

I am apparently suffering from a broken brain.

I meant to say that you can be certain we would have organized something if we were still going.

Guessing no one here got in for the Fallon taping. Wondering what song they'll do.

Harnessed in Slums would be my guess (Web in Front is only two minutes long). Mind would be blown if they bust out something rare.

yeah i was not invited alas

mookieproof, Saturday, 25 June 2011 04:15 (twelve years ago) link

Wow they did "Wrong!"

Also, while everyone else looks about 13 years older than the last time I saw them, Matt Gentling has been preserved in amber and remains perpetually 20-something.

tonight's songs (not in this order):

web in front
wrong
you and me
might
plumb line
slow worm
audiowhore
lowest part is free!
freezing point
revenge
what did you expect?
bacteria
harnessed in slums
greatest of all time
1985/fabricoh
nostalgia
smokin' pot in the hot city
scenic pastures
worst defense/attack of the killer bees
form and file
dead red eyes

opened with audiowhore/harnessed; bacteria was the last encore

some dude tried to get up on stage and dance during bacteria, but he had really poor timing and basically just got there after the first loud part ended; it was lol

matt gentling looks exactly the same and may have been wearing the same jeans from 13 years ago

eb is a v. large man, especially next to those guys

it was grebt and i am happy

Listening to the Icky Mettle reissue: I guess it's been remastered? I can't tell tbh. It doesn't sound any clearer or fuller, maybe just louder. And the 2nd disc just has the AOLvsGOAT ep and a few other things that were already on The Speed of Cattle. So yeah, unless you've been hunting a copy of Icky Mettle on vinyl for a few years w/o any success, this whole thing seems kind of superfluous.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 29 July 2011 14:14 (twelve years ago) link

oh right. black cat next friday. lol i've had these tickets for a while.

fauxmarc, Friday, 29 July 2011 15:38 (twelve years ago) link

After like a million years, I've finally come around (mostly) to White Trash Heroes.

I don't really see any great need for reissues, unless there's some weird trove of unreleased tracks that they're sitting on. Their live (on CD/LP/bootleg) stuff never seemed like any huge improvement over the original recordings, seems like the b-sides mostly got out already, and the quality of their CDs was never a problem.

dlp9001, Friday, 29 July 2011 15:46 (twelve years ago) link

I never posted about the show, but I have time now to say this: it was good. It was. I had fun and bounced around a lot. I saw a lot of men in their 30s. But honestly I missed the CF songs.

Fa la la (La Lechera), Friday, 29 July 2011 15:49 (twelve years ago) link

Outside of The Speed of Cattle, there are only four tracks (iirc) that are scattered:

Mark Price, P.I. - from the Lounge Ax compilation on Touch & Go
Big Joe and Phantom 309 - from the Step Right Up covers compilation of Tom Waits songs
Jive Kata - from a stand-alone 7"
Telepathic Traffic (acoustic) - from a split 7" with Monsterland

There may be some previously unreleased stuff the band is sitting on for later reissues, but if you're got all the albums and The Speed of Cattle, you have almost everything.

This is awesome -- EB goes to Taiwan for 6 mo., teaches EFL to some kids, hates it, finds renewed zeal for music. Love this guy!!

cool will watch that

kinda bummed they ruined the cover art on Vee Vee for the reissue

konybrony (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Wednesday, 14 March 2012 17:42 (twelve years ago) link

Yeah, I was a little disappointed in that too. I like the new one too, but it should have been like the cover for the inside booklet instead, imho.

stan this sick bunt (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Wednesday, 14 March 2012 17:47 (twelve years ago) link

apparently the original artwork for everything except icky mettle was lost, so they tried to make lemonade

mookieproof, Wednesday, 14 March 2012 17:54 (twelve years ago) link

Why doesn't it surprise me that the people at Alias would lose something important like COVER ART? Joke ass label.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
YES! After nearly 15 years, I'll finally have a digital copy of "Jive Kata" at my disposal without the pops and hiss of the 7" recording.
Johnny Fever, Thursday, 31 May 2012 19:20 (eleven years ago) link
I'm about 5% disappointed they didn't play Fashion Bleeds or anything else off WTH at the reunion gig I saw.
the fey monster (ledge), Thursday, 31 May 2012 19:22 (eleven years ago) link
Wow, they didn't even do "White Trash Heroes"? Sucks.
Johnny Fever, Thursday, 31 May 2012 19:23 (eleven years ago) link
I caught two of their farewell 1998 shows and it was played at one and not the other, so I guess I should consider myself lucky.
Johnny Fever, Thursday, 31 May 2012 19:23 (eleven years ago) link
i think they played dead red eyes last year? not certain
mookieproof, Thursday, 31 May 2012 19:33 (eleven years ago) link
i saw 2 gigs in chicago, first night they played dead red eyes, next night nothing off of white trash heroes, really wanted to hear "fashion bleeds"
wack nerd zinging in the dead of night (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 31 May 2012 19:34 (eleven years ago) link
They were basically going for all the fast punchy stuff so it would have fitted right in.
the fey monster (ledge), Thursday, 31 May 2012 19:40 (eleven years ago) link
All The Nations Airports...that's one of the big momentum killing records. Coming after Vee Vee it sounded so flat
kornrulez6969, Friday, 1 June 2012 03:56 (eleven years ago) link
In 1996, yeah. Now I really love it.
Johnny Fever, Friday, 1 June 2012 04:21 (eleven years ago) link
always loved killer bees > rental sting
but yeah it's a wholly different thing really
