when i was like 14~15 my best friend who was v short was a subject of this documentary abt being a short male http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S%26M_Short_and_Male & one of the shoots was me & some other friends hanging out with him goofin around teasing him abt being short, we also beatboxed & wrote a rap about how its cool to be short & that they filmed. at some pt after that while he was doing talking head shots/interviews he got really embarassed bc it was going to be on national tv and told them he thought the whole thing was lame & wished he had never gotten involved, i think in the end they left him out entirely

I was cast as Tiny Tim in our 5th grade production of A Christmas Carol. Entirely because I was the shortest boy in my grade.

I think flopson and friends' approach sounds kind and endearing, it has a freaks and geeks tone to it.

breakfast-eaters was a poor example to use on greedy old ilx.

the same friend also once met the creator or director or something of law & order: svu at a dinner party thru his tangentially high-society jewish family and asked him if he would name a character after him, & he did and the character was a rapist!

and also jordan s is taller than my dog who does not even reach my knee, sometimes i exclaim at him about that.

This is actually pretty interesting to me. As I said earlier I like being tall - a lot. I'm either 5'9" or 5'10" depending on who by and when I'm measured and I think that's sort of the perfect tall height for a woman. It's not so tall that it seems freakish but it's tall enough that I reap the benefits. I think that being a tall woman can be a huge benefit in terms of commanding respect and being taken seriously by men. That might sound strange but I think it's a lot easier for people to dismiss small women than it is for them to dismiss taller women and I feel like in certain situations (work, school) smaller female friends have had to work work harder at being heard and taken seriously than I have. In some ways height and physical presense = power and I think definitely benefited from being tall.

this is a thing i have a complex about in terms of being short but tbf maybe people dismiss me because i'm crazy and it has nothing to do with my height.

That's basically what I meant -- always reminds me of that little bit before Daydream Believer where Davy Jones asks "is it because I'm short?" (or us it just ME?)

I'm a short woman and also have a complex abt not being taken seriously. I've always put it down to other looks-related issues rather than height specifically but actually shortness may play into it more than I've realised.

(this is really winding me up at work lately, hence the thread I attempted to revive y/day about bitterness, cz the things which set it off are not going to go away but I was hoping maybe my reaction to them could be tamed. oh well)

i'm the same height as ENBB and it does help as far as being taken seriously. i didn't think about it so much because wherever i've worked, i've been used to generally being about the same height as most of the men. but the guy who's currently the head of my department is kind of soft spoken and probably 6'3 - and i found him pretty intimidating for a while, just because of that. not used to talking to people who are that much taller.
