I'd probably take 30m plus Berbatov.

Don't want to twist your arm or anything. I'm more likely to play for Spurs next season (well, Alan Hutton managed it) than Spurs to get 30m plus Berbatov...

R. Stornoway (Tom D.), Friday, 17 June 2011 11:11 (twelve years ago) link

True. I'm not sure how much United are valuing Berbatov at and how much they want to get rid of him.

модный хипстер (ShariVari), Friday, 17 June 2011 11:13 (twelve years ago) link

exactly

Xp yeah, matt otm too. Modric is a 'missing link' player.

Truthfully though, with the forward line we played last season he's wasted. In a team the calibre of chelsea or city he'd move them up a level all by himself.

Utd prob need another midfielder as well as him though.

beta the drivel you know (darraghmac), Friday, 17 June 2011 11:14 (twelve years ago) link

Part of me thinks £30m is reasonable, but then I remember that Chelsea just forked out £50m on Torres and I can't see Levy taking any less than £38m. Like Darragh said don't think Modric will kick up a fuss if he ends up staying so it's not essential that Spurs sell unless Levy/Harry would quite like the money to strengthen the team in other areas (frwd, gk)

pandemic, Friday, 17 June 2011 12:09 (twelve years ago) link

I went with 'won't move'. Wishful thinking maybe.

pandemic, Friday, 17 June 2011 12:10 (twelve years ago) link

veering towards won't move alright- i cant see anyone meeting the valuation we're likely to stick to.

beta the drivel you know (darraghmac), Friday, 17 June 2011 13:10 (twelve years ago) link

can see city offering close to £40m

de jong, modric, touré is a contendah

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:WhiteAmericanFolks.jpg (nakhchivan), Friday, 17 June 2011 13:35 (twelve years ago) link

certainly better than the current title winning midfield

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:WhiteAmericanFolks.jpg (nakhchivan), Friday, 17 June 2011 13:35 (twelve years ago) link

the last top level central midfielder to be transferred was xabi alonso in 2009, and that was £30m for a player two years older

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:WhiteAmericanFolks.jpg (nakhchivan), Friday, 17 June 2011 13:39 (twelve years ago) link

Not sure about that: Yaya Toure £24m, Ozil £12m (must've been more?), Meireles £10m-ish all not so far off Modric imo

Ismael Klata, Friday, 17 June 2011 13:47 (twelve years ago) link

ozil is an amid/support striker, and in last year of contrac

touré wasn't quite proven in any given role, though he's probably found his niche now

meireles not really first rate hence fee

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:WhiteAmericanFolks.jpg (nakhchivan), Friday, 17 June 2011 13:52 (twelve years ago) link

luka m's actual value probably about £30m, but in a summer of inflated transfers and after a bidding war w/ ynahtid and chelsea, it's not unfeasible that city pay £40m

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:WhiteAmericanFolks.jpg (nakhchivan), Friday, 17 June 2011 13:55 (twelve years ago) link

deems should be more worried about citeh sending adebayor in return, possibly after levy sniffs at a lower exchange offer from chelsea containting drogba, while muttering something about amortisation

story in the independent now claiming he will take it all back, or clarify that he meant he will be happy to go if the club want to sell him.

mizzell, Monday, 20 June 2011 02:46 (twelve years ago) link

all arry's idea to squeeze levy

beta the drivel you know (darraghmac), Monday, 20 June 2011 08:33 (twelve years ago) link

'arry 'as suggested he might be after a couple of big top tops to convince Modric and Bale to stay. It'll be interesting to see where he'd want them to play. If the Leandro Damaio interest is as solid as the papers suggest and the bids for Dembele and Abel Hernandez were legit, it might not be up front, unless we're going to have a total clear-out.

модный хипстер (ShariVari), Monday, 20 June 2011 08:44 (twelve years ago) link

Story in the Independent seems to suggest that Modric doesn't have the stomach for a fight and won't force the move, I suppose a Gareth Barry/Liverpool situation is as good as we can hope for here.

Modric and Bale are both young, we may placate them by saying we'll sell one or both later if we get another season out of them. Redknapp will be happy as it makes it likelier that Levy will be bounced into behaving like a big club - ie making a couple of big signings without having to wait for the moon on a stick to come in from the Bentley deal.

Also apparently Kia Joorabchian is involved in some way? That's not good news and is bound to annoy Levy. Like, he'd stand to get a fee if Modric was sold to Chelsea but not to another club, or something? Very dodgy.

Matt DC, Monday, 20 June 2011 08:51 (twelve years ago) link

well fuck that, we should just shoot the cunt

Modric will be ok if he stays. He's got five years of a contract, it was a pretty stupid move by him tbh.

I think the chances of him going were far greater before he opened his mouth

How would the resident Spurs fans feel if he does stay?

Chris, Monday, 20 June 2011 23:56 (twelve years ago) link

delighted, tbh.

i always thought berbatov would have snapped out of it, and doubly so for modric

beta the drivel you know (darraghmac), Monday, 20 June 2011 23:58 (twelve years ago) link

Won't cause irreparable damage to the relationship? I think Gerrard was forgiven pretty quickly wasn't he after the Chelsea thing(s).

Chris, Tuesday, 21 June 2011 00:02 (twelve years ago) link

nah i can't see it, if he stays he'll get out there on the pitch and play and it'll blow over.

i'd have had sympathy with him, relatively anyway, before he opened his mouth on fri night.

beta the drivel you know (darraghmac), Tuesday, 21 June 2011 00:05 (twelve years ago) link

fair point

good article about the lovable tyke in goal.com- why is luka modric so highly rated when lampard scores more and fabregas has more assists, they conclude that it's because he's good at other stuff.

remarkable stuff

The Modric rumour seems to be stemming from "TransferUpdate" on Twitter, who seems a tad suspect to say the least

Had an inkling this was possible when he scored two v Spurs in Madrid in April. You could do a lot worse.

Drogba news gone quiet lately, I suppose he's staying.

yeah looks like drogba stays, tho apparently moves were mad efor lukaku today so....

i rate adebayor's ability, but his attitude stinks

and so it looks like going

who shivs a git (darraghmac), Sunday, 24 July 2011 17:20 (twelve years ago) link

So making him captain didn't work then? What's your source here, I thought Chelsea were more interested in Pastore now.

boxall, Sunday, 24 July 2011 17:26 (twelve years ago) link

That looks like Redknapp and Levy are at loggerheads to me. Redknapp presumably frustrated at Levy's refusal to part without any cash without having first sold the deadwood he's put a prohibitive price tag on, when one player at a stroke could make £35m-£40m.

But at the same time we don't know who he's targeting, whether they'll come to Spurs, whether they'll actually improve the team (as opposed to replacing Kranjcars with Pienaars and making no net improvement whatsoever), and whether we'll end up with a hole in the squad and a load of unspent or wasted money at the end.

Personally I think he's trying to con Levy into getting his chequebook out. Doubt Harry likes spending an entire summer sitting around not being able to make signings.

Matt DC, Thursday, 18 August 2011 08:44 (twelve years ago) link

It's the sort of thing that could end 'redknapp out' to me - not only undermining the public line, but shifting blame for underperformance onto Levy. The only benefit (assuming as I do that you can't possibly be better off shorn of Modric) is in getting Modric onside personally if he needs it, but even that's got a huge backhanded insult in there.

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 18 August 2011 08:57 (twelve years ago) link

said for a while now that 35m spent well leaves us a better team if modric goes.

That was on condition of keeping niko, tho

10/11 of a dead jesus (darraghmac), Thursday, 18 August 2011 09:49 (twelve years ago) link

There's also the possibility that Redknapp is trying to rush Chelsea into a bid they can then reject.

Matt DC, Thursday, 18 August 2011 09:50 (twelve years ago) link

Redknapp has not really spent particularly well over his time at Spurs actually. Dunno if successful moves for Samba, Benayoun and Kalou and a failed bid for Eden Hazard will make much net improvement really.

Matt DC, Thursday, 18 August 2011 09:53 (twelve years ago) link

that's true, though i'd want to see a list to judge tbh
