What, even "My Sweet Rosalie" by the Brotherhood of Man?

the cutest puppy I ever did see...

Oh alright then

Dr. C (Dr. C), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 10:54 (eighteen years ago) link

I don't know that one either

Pete Shelley never did record a follow-up to "Love Me Love My Dog," did he?

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 10:57 (eighteen years ago) link

"Orgasm Addict"?

Bifidus Digestivum (Dada), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 10:58 (eighteen years ago) link

It's on the first volume of the fairly sordid Guilty Pleasures, so it's been played a lot on radio recently. Posh people don't sing like Kit Hain no more.

See I knew you were going to say that...but I recall the jingle related to his previous hit, viz.: "Gee baby, how do you know 'til you've tried?/Gee baby, listen to Radio Clyde."

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 10:59 (eighteen years ago) link

Oh yes, "Gee Baby", I forgot about that one

Bifidus Digestivum (Dada), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 11:01 (eighteen years ago) link

In common with millions...

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 11:03 (eighteen years ago) link

Oh, it was pretty catchy I thought

Bifidus Digestivum (Dada), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 11:04 (eighteen years ago) link

But that one was before the dog one.

Pete Shelley ran Magnet Records and I think co-wrote/produced all of Alvin Stardust's hits of the period. Before that he did some pretty weird pseudonymous stuff (in the Lieutenant Pigeon/Stamford Bridge sense) - some of it turned up on last year's Glitter From The Litter Bin compilation - as well as some ace faux-Northern Soul things with Ben Findon including stuff by pre-"Music" John Miles and Eli Bonaparte's brilliant "Love's Not An Everyday Thing" (rumoured to be an incognito Billy Fury), former Fab 208 Powerplay but sadly never a hit.

The latest in the Lipsmackin' Series 'Bubble Pop' is all stuff from Jonathan King's UK label - Bunk Dogger, Ricky Wilde, Brendon, Redhead, lots of JK etc. It's fucking terrible - avoid.

The next up, 'Boobs' (out Jun 20) looks more like it - Iron Cross/Chunky/Iron Virgin again/Rats/Sweeney Todd...

Dr. C (Dr. C), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 11:47 (eighteen years ago) link

That Bubble Pop one's been out for a while. But it does have Ricky Wilde's "Teen Wave" on it, thus in my world is indispensable (and I speak as the owner of an 8-CD JK box set!).

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 11:50 (eighteen years ago) link

The sole owner of an 8-CD JK box set - in the universe I mean

Bifidus Digestivum (Dada), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 11:51 (eighteen years ago) link

I'm pretty sure Mark S owns a copy as well.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 11:53 (eighteen years ago) link

If Wire haven't done a primer on it yet I ain't interested

Bifidus Digestivum (Dada), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 11:55 (eighteen years ago) link

Too melodic for the Wire innit.

one year passes...

really been enjoying the first eye to eye album that julian marshall did with deborah berg after the demise of marshall-hain. smart adult pop stuff with the likes of jeff porcaro, rick derringer and gary katz on the list of credits. not an expensive record or anything but it took me ages to find a copy in the wild
