harbl the best tree.....it depends. 2 favorite trees in my neighborhood:
1) it's either a plane tree or a sycamore/plane tree hybrid. i don't know. but the trunk it looks like it had started to melt but then hardened again.
2) there's the century old oak in the park near me that overlooks elliott bay and the elliott bay grain terminal. the grain terminal makes this constant noise which makes it really relaxing to sit under the oak tree, which has a solid presence on its own anyway

big fan of monkey puzzle trees in general.

the wollemi pine (which isn't actually a pine and is in the same family as the monkey puzzle) which looks cool anyway, but was known only from the fossil record until someone found a small stand of them growing in australia. this is the bark:

there's a tree i can't remember the name of that "walks" over a long period of time. it is on stilt-like roots, and some grow outward while others, if i remember correctly, eventually die off so that the tree gradually changes its location.

i really like weeping sequoias. they are the goofiest looking things. like cousin it trees or something. regular sequoias are generally very straight with very uniform crowns, but weeping sequoias look like a fuck up. they're shaggy and grow and curve in funny angles.

big fan of the kalaloch cedar over on the olympic peninsula. it's like 1,000 years old, probably more, can't remember. really gnarly and strange looking.

lingbery i can't name species like you but i like a lot of different types of trees. my neighborhood has a lot of flowering trees: apples, cherries, magnolia etc. but i also like huge mega-tall pine trees. i am having trouble thinking of which is the best tree. maybe it will come to me in a dream and dr. freud will sort it out.

i had a dream that i was still in the question & answer section of my presentation last night and i answered all the questions with better information/the way i should have. WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?

i had a dream i was attending some kind of charm school but i was too unrefined for them and they kept trying to teach me lessons like causing me to miss the bus to charm school because i was running to catch it and the driver drove away on purpose. i finally cracked and went on a lengthy bitch rant about how their school was so antiquated and perpetuated harmful stereotypes and how i didn't care if i missed their bus. i keep having these dreams where i yell at people and i'm a very eloquent, persuasive speaker. NOT like real life lol

i dreamed i was walking down the street and overheard a gruesome murder inside an apartment building but i couldn't figure out which one and then i was hiding in the subway and later heard it was the worst domestic dispute/murder in many years. what/? it was unsettling!

I dreamt that I was trying to go to Malawi, but I wasn't sure if i was even at the right airport.

i once dreamt about trying to go to rwanda but in my dream i was calling it "rwanda and burundi" because i had been looking at a really old atlas which had them both as the same belgian colony. weird how that stuff comes through in your dreams.

a dream my teeth were rotting, corroding even. cavities all over the place and stuff being poked into them and hurting me. not like a normal teeth dream where they are falling out, this was just rapid decay faster than i could do anything about it ugh

this is fucked up but i must have been mega tired and i slept 11 hours: i dreamt i was going to school but my school was in some semi-abandoned old brick building and you could climb into the attic from the building next door so i did, and there was a guy in there that i apparently knew and he was smoking w33d so i had some. in the dream i didn't get hi but it might be hard for a dream to show that. then i went downstairs into class and there was an announcement over a PA like "the worst school shooting ever is happening and everyone is going to die" (i don't remember the exact words but it was very hyperbolic and panicked like that) so we all went into the basement which i was thinking was the most obvious place to hide. it looked a lot like my parents' basement and i knew the best hiding place was behind some insulation under the stairs. we could hear gunshots over a walkie talkie. while i was hiding i remembered i had smoked a joint in the attic and part of it remained up there and i was afraid that when the building was searched after the shooting they would find it and test it for dna and i would be arrested. then i woke up and wondered for a few seconds whether it was real! scary dream.

i had a dream that lil sis was dealing drugs and doing drugs and i had to go search her room and i found this stash of coke that was all hard still and hadn't been broken up so it was shaped like pieces of chalk but with flat sides instead of round and they were pointed at the end so they looked like writing utensils or maybe bullets i'm not sure. anyway, it was a very dramatic "i'm not doing drugs" scene and she was sort of wearing goth makeup which is lol bc she is such a hippyish free spirit most of the time and also everything was dark but the drugs were in a red bag. almost like white and red for the red cross. then i had to call the cops on her and also try to keep her from running away before they came. then i think the cops came and they didn't believe me.

i had a dream that i went to take the bar exam and we had to hand over our library cards to get into the exam and the guy would check our library records to make sure we had good character. he almost didn't let me in because he said some of the books i had taken out were "too political." i asked out of curiosity what kind of books would justify not allowing someone to take the bar exam and he said "lesbian fiction." good thing i haven't taken out any lesbian fiction!

i then had a dream i was renting an apartment that i really really liked but i wasn't sure i could afford it. i stepped outside to look at mountains from the back yard and i saw a mouse running toward the house. i had a cat and the cat chased it down and sunk its teeth into the mouse's neck. blood was spurting out. then another mouse came and the cat caught that one too. the cat ripped apart the second mouse and started to eat it. the mouse had whole frogs and other animals inside its stomach, like a snake would. why do i have so many dreams about killing mice?

i had a dream that i went to take the bar

I had a pedicure. The toenail polish was so heavy I could barely walk out of the shop. Was too embarrassed to ask for my money back.

three dreams:

a dream i had gone to nyc for nye (lol i would never do such a thing) with my brother, and we were flying home out of PHL. even though that is a weird place to fly out of from nyc, obviously, and if i went to nyc w/ my brother i would probably just drive "home" to my parents' house or take metro north so already that doesn't make sense. anyway we were at the airport and we hadn't packed our suitcases yet. it was like a scavenger hunt through the airport. our flight was leaving very soon but we had to find our luggage AND our clothes, then pack, check the bags, and get on the plane. so we were running around and he was faster than me. i eventually found my clothes in a locker room (locker rooms are a recurring theme in my dreams just like mice and rats), stuffed them into my suitcase, and ran ran ran to "gate 40." we couldn't find the gate because the gates were not in any logical order so when we got there the plane had already left and we were just standing there like "now what do we do?" when i woke up. i felt like i was panting when i woke up, from the exhilarating run through PHL. oh also in the dream PHL looked like a fancy hotel inside but i know irl it's like the shittiest large airport.

a dream some anti-abortion protesters were on my street holding huge signs and a lot of them were on my porch even though i repeatedly told them to get off the porch and that they were not welcome. i was yelling at them: GET THE FUCK OFF MY PORCH CREEPS. then they decided to go to my gay next door neighbors' house and knock and i was like, "yeah those people aren't going to listen to you, they're gay. don't even bother," but the protesters didn't seem to get it, they were stupid and just looked at me quizzically and came back on my porch. so annoying.

the other dream i can't really remember except it involved a young up-and-coming politician who looked exactly like maxine waters lol wheretf does this shit come from?

my dreams have been really fragmented lately. i can't remember seem to remember them. wtf?

a dream i was on vacation with my parents in some U.S. city. this city had a large foreign population, so there were lots of different restaurants, and we wanted to eat. we were at some food court that looked a lot like a food court i have been to in montreal a long time ago. we decided to eat at a moroccan place (i think it was moroccan but actually i can't remember now). i wanted to try every kind of food. but it was not like real moroccan food! they had some really bizarre things on the menu. i really wanted to eat squid, so i ordered some, but the squid was supposed to be alive. also they warned they could sting you if you didn't eat them right, like jellyfish. also the squid looked more like leeches, and they were squirming. so it was basically a styrofoam cup of live leeches in broth, and i slurped them up. with gusto.

this is a very symbolic dream! by eating the leeches, perhaps it means that whatever is draining the energy and vigor from you (school? stress? sandbox woes?) is also making you feel self-conscious or isolated. this is normal for someone coming to the end of their studies and preparing to embark on a new phase of her life. my own spin would be that eating the leeches is a way of addressing or trying to conquer your feelings, but i'm not sure if that is on point or not. alternately, eating could represent being consumed by these things. even though you are the one doing the consuming, you are filling yourself up with these vigor-draining little suckers. maria callas once ate a parasite in order to lose weight and further her career. perhaps your unconscious believes that by consuming these things, you will somehow become harder, better, faster, and/or stronger.
