really i think there's an argument for "sex intelligent (remix)" and "nikki part 2" really encapsulating why i love this album - they're certainly not good songcraft in the traditional sense and they don't even make all that much sense if you isolate them, so i guess you could say they're evidence of LK's weakness, but the gaseous production and the way the lyrics take in all of terius' most dreamish characteristics make them totally essential to the album

i never really listen to this all the way through because of the abyss/panties to the side roadblock :/

"Abyss" is so fucking awesome. Like 50 "Nikki"s at once.

"abyss" is really self-conscious about how it goes for the ~epic~ feel but succeeds despite that - i think that's the reason it's not the absolute top tier of this album though

am i the only person who absolutely adores "florida university"?

the block i usually skip is panties to the side/turnt out/february love (latter two not actively bad but i don't really NEED to listen to them ever)

I think Make Up Bag might be my favourite track on this...I love the Sex Intelligents and All Black Everything too. I fucking love this album though generally, two or three duds but easily my most listened to record.

I voted for "Sex Intelligent (Remix)" to avoid a possible "Yamaha" sweep.

Also: LVM represents more a triumph of production than this one.

I'm not that much of a contrarian but I always want to press skip after about a minute of yamaha

Voted for FILA but it was close between that an Turnt Out (especially for the "my bad i meant to say baby baby" bit). I know it has its detractors but i also love Florida University. So fun to sing along to + it was the song i used to get a couple of Dream sceptical friends into him.

OTM, that's why i voted for the "sex intelligent" remix. love the way it strips terius' sound to its most otherworldly essentials, just glossy pillow talk and cosmic drift. doesn't matter at all to me that it's not the album's strongest piece of songwriting, the atmosphere is incredible.

Agreed, although I'd argue it is a good example of songwriting -- a second stab at the song that improves on the original.

no! i love that song to death, mentioned it a couple times in the main love king thread and don't know why i didn't highlight here. it's certainly better than "yamaha", my afterthought candidate. funny, it's almost the opposite of the "sex intelligent" remix, in that it gets by on traditional songwriting and storytelling, bears hardly a trace of the dark, dreamy atmosphere that characterizes other album highlights. get the feeling that most here see it as a throwaway track.

the first like 30 seconds of "nikki pt 2" are great actually, especially on the heels of "yamaha" (jaymc otm) - what was he thinking with that hook though - and then to repeat it after the second verse? ugh

yeah i've always wondered what "nikki" would sound like without a tune and if dream sang it like he just rolled out of bed

yeah wow the end of "yamaha" --> up to just before the hook on "nikki pt 2" is incredible

I'm surprised that folks seem to universally hate the title track. I think it's pretty fun! Might have to vote for Make Up Bag though...

The panning drums on the title track are really doing it for me today. Still his third-best album but I feel like since it came out I've forgotten how enjoyable minor Terius is.
