so can anybody come out tonight or was that too short notice? jenny, i know you wanted to hang out again with the good doctor!

stingy, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 20:15 (sixteen years ago) link

What did Pacey do? I only really watched the first two seasons of that show religiously.

jaymc, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 20:17 (sixteen years ago) link

i have to work til 7 and then try to push a full dumpster back to its rightful spot (by the fence, not in the backyard) because some boneheaded neighbor of mine decided to move it so s/he could have more room for the SUV.

note: living in a condo with awful neighbors is like having horrible, negligent roommates who never ever move out. i can't say any more because of PENDING LITIGATION.

La Lechera, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 20:18 (sixteen years ago) link

i keep forgetting to eat a proper meal today.

JuliaA, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 20:20 (sixteen years ago) link

If I were A, I would use my POS car to push the dumpster so it parks in the SUV. Then I would go have a beer. QED

dan m, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 20:21 (sixteen years ago) link

but then i would have to drive into the backyard
what i really want to do is make the people who moved it in the first place push it back, but they seem to think they didn't do anything wrong.

dawson's creek reminds me of living in wilmington.

one time pacey's giant dog tried to rape my cocker spaniel.

OTM!

Laurel, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 20:23 (sixteen years ago) link

Er, XP!

Laurel, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 20:23 (sixteen years ago) link

Junie disagrees, Laurel. :(

La Lechera, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 20:23 (sixteen years ago) link

It was a cross-post to Dan. :( I lub Junie.

Or dump your garbage on/in the car!

dan m, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 20:26 (sixteen years ago) link

WITH THE DUMPSTER.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 20:26 (sixteen years ago) link

Stingy, it's a bit late, notice-wise, although it's true that I want to hang with the good doc again.

Jenny, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 20:27 (sixteen years ago) link

if i remember correctly, he basically picks a fight with joey and maybe even dumps her because he's flunking out and insecure. he may even try to hook up with another girl. all this while they are trapped on a boat.

this is why social events on moving boats are BAD.

colette, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 20:27 (sixteen years ago) link

i would block in the suv then fill said dumpster with several 80lb bags of sackcrete then take a garden hose to it. trying to get that thing to move after the concrete sets would be a sisyphusian endeavor.

chicago kevin, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 20:29 (sixteen years ago) link

Yeah, dumping the garbage in the spot would be a GREAT idea. Honestly, what I see happening is me going door-to-door asking for help push/pulling a giant, heavy dumpster back to its rightful home. And maybe taking pictures so people NEVER FORGET 9/25/07.

xp - He's insecure because his dog is an attempted rapist.

Cokey McDogrape

Jenny, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 20:34 (sixteen years ago) link

Wait, maybe I have seen that episode.

jaymc, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 20:35 (sixteen years ago) link

Thanks for the National link, dan. I have trouble following discussions about recording gear but the drum sound on that record is great, and those dudes have some sweet sweet guitars.

whoa -- stormin'

La Lechera, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 20:44 (sixteen years ago) link

I love the drumming on that record. Dude plays uncomplicated but really interesting parts.

n/a, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 20:45 (sixteen years ago) link

big storming!

that episode was pretty sad but not as bad as i remembered. still, i'm not going to go on parties on boats just in case, you know?

colette, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 20:46 (sixteen years ago) link

This video is funny because I think you see the drummer more than you see the singer.

n/a, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 20:46 (sixteen years ago) link

Oh you better believe I was mentally recording how he played some of those parts while watching them the other night. He's got a pretty minimal kit (only one cymbal + hats) but gets a hell of a lot out of it.

dan m, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 20:47 (sixteen years ago) link

er, plus bass, 2 toms & snare

dan m, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 20:47 (sixteen years ago) link

Their singer is very uncharismatic.

n/a, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 20:48 (sixteen years ago) link

but in general, I think a lot of the dark meaty sound came from the 1953 Neumann U-47 in front of the kit.

This is the boring answer to why good-sounding records recorded in awesome studios sound good

Jordan, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 20:49 (sixteen years ago) link

Does anyone have a 1953 Neumann U-47 we can borrow?

KitCat, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 20:50 (sixteen years ago) link

would i like that band better if i played an instrument?

La Lechera, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 20:50 (sixteen years ago) link

You have to have some tolerance for sad bastard indie rock, I think.

n/a, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 20:51 (sixteen years ago) link

When I saw them (The National) touring on the last album, the singer was very, very charismatic. Also very, very drunk. But the kind of drunk that seemed to make him all the more intense and focused instead of aloof and/or petulant.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 20:51 (sixteen years ago) link

I don't have said tolerance, but that is a cool drum part and a good sound.

Jordan, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 20:51 (sixteen years ago) link

would i like that band better if i played an instrument?

No.

jaymc, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 20:52 (sixteen years ago) link

Hm. Ok. I tried to like them because you guys are always raving and I found myself feeling very little enthusiasm.

La Lechera, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 20:52 (sixteen years ago) link

and I'm not really sure why I love that album so much, since I don't really like sad bastard indie rock that much. I think part of it is that his lyrics are kind of general and enigmatic, not embarassingly personal and sappy like a lot of sad bastard indie rock.

n/a, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 20:53 (sixteen years ago) link

I still don't get very excited for the new album, but I like them plenty.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 20:53 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm not a huge fan, either, Amanda.

jaymc, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 20:53 (sixteen years ago) link

I didn't feel antipathy, but I did not want to listen to the album anymore. (I think the one D dl'ed is the most recent)

La Lechera, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 20:54 (sixteen years ago) link

I like them. They sound a bit like old U2 to me.

KitCat, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 20:54 (sixteen years ago) link

I can understand people not liking it, there's nothing really that jumps out about it and lots of people hate on dude's lyrics (though I think they're great), but I don't know, something about it just gets me.

n/a, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 20:54 (sixteen years ago) link

See, I love old U2.

La Lechera, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 20:55 (sixteen years ago) link

Also, two sets of brothers = cool.

n/a, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 20:55 (sixteen years ago) link

love the lyrics, love the voice, love the band.

kenan, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 20:56 (sixteen years ago) link

Also old U2 contains some serious belting in the vocals and this guy sounds asleep/like Crash Test Dummies dude. I like a little more belting, less laconic snoozing. Like I said, I didn't hate it or anything, but it did not move me.

La Lechera, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 20:57 (sixteen years ago) link

I *heart* The National.

My sad bastard indie rock tolerance is wicked high, though.

Jenny, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 20:57 (sixteen years ago) link

I think he sounds a lot like the Smog dude at times.
