that just seems like a really odd song to pick to cover, kind of like saying "I have the perfect Madonna song to cover: 'Jimmy Jimmy'!"

i think it's kinda more that pretty much every single prince song off his major albums has gotten a barrage of covers.

well there have always been a dozen short-lived footnotes for every career artist -- how does that make the 70s different from now (sorry i don't know what the original thread this statement was made on, i'm probably missing some key context)

i think it was something about how people in the past would hone their abilities and pay their dues and learn many different styles over a period of years and post-punk this changed and post-internet it changed even more. something like that.
