Your're right, there's no way he's staying in the Norris, other than with the Packers.

"In fairness to Favre, it should be mentioned that any phone calls he made to the Vikings were made in a gunslinging fashion, and through the entire conversation, he looked like a kid out there, just having fun."

1. Marvin Lewis on Chad Johnson: "He's a very very good player. I'm excited for him to cleanse his mind and get back to having fun."
2. Favre is apparently up for grabs for Fins, Falcons, Bucs, Skins, Panthers, Texans, Ravens.

And apparently the Bucs are ready to do this by the weekend?

ESPN says favre is going to report to GB training camp this weekend.

as a vikes fan this is going way better than i could have ever hoped.

personally i would love to see him get eviscerated by the new york press.

chicago kevin, Saturday, 26 July 2008 16:29 (fifteen years ago) link

I keep having a feeling that the Pack is going to have a sit down with Rogers and Favre, then come out with Favre starting in Green Bay for 1 more year.

earlnash, Sunday, 27 July 2008 18:28 (fifteen years ago) link

nope, they told favre he would not even have the opportunity to compete for the starting job. they brokered a deal with him where he'll stay away from camp and they'll try to deal him.

chicago kevin, Sunday, 27 July 2008 20:26 (fifteen years ago) link

finally this topic gets the coverage it so richly deserves:

If they really offered him money to stay away, that is the most hilariously sad thing ever.

I know you got us within a play of the Super Bowl last year, but please take this briefcase filled with cash and disappear.

polyphonic, Thursday, 31 July 2008 05:55 (fifteen years ago) link

Let him come back to training camp and order the other players to haze the shit out of him. He can be woken up daily by Charles Woodson pissing in his face.

man, if Favre winds up getting the starting nod, I'll buy a Favre jersey, deface it, and root against him all year...

Aaron Rodgers probably will play a safer style of football for the team anyway, about now. He did almost lead them back against the Cowboys after Brett stunk it up last year.

I'd say trade him to the Jets, but they already have two guys that can throw interceptions...

Bo Jackson Overdrive, Sunday, 3 August 2008 22:32 (fifteen years ago) link

what an asshole

J0rdan S., Monday, 4 August 2008 03:12 (fifteen years ago) link

this fucker decided to stay away and then changed his mind AGAIN

"Frankly, Brett's change of mind put us in a very difficult spot," team president and CEO Mark Murphy said in a statement released by the team. "We now will revise many actions and assumptions about our long-term future, all predicated on Brett's decision last March to retire.

"As a result of his decision, we invested considerably in a new and different future without Brett and we were obviously moving in that direction. That's why this wasn't easy. Having crossed the Rubicon once when Brett decided to retire, it's very difficult to reorient our plans and cross it again in the opposite direction -- but we'll put this to our advantage."

J0rdan S., Monday, 4 August 2008 03:16 (fifteen years ago) link

actually this is better

But those close to the story believed late Saturday night Favre was going to turn down Green Bay's invitation to return to camp with no guarantee he would be competing for playing time. Instead, sources said late Saturday, Favre had all but decided to take the team's offer of a rich, long-term marketing and promotions contract instead of playing.

I tried listening to ESPN talk radio last Thursday on the baseball trade deadline to see if they had any updates and again today. I cut back four times in my 50 minute drive to work, NEVER once in the time I would listened would they shut up about Favre. I tried again today to see if there was any baseball news on the show, they NEVER went to any other story, everything was about Favre.

It is about like there is no other sport going on in the world. My God it is like worse than T.O. fever from a couple of summers back and that is hard to believe.

earlnash, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 04:33 (fifteen years ago) link

Question: Why would the Packers be obligated to pay him $20 mil to stay retired? Surely that has never happened before.

Mr. Snrub, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 04:48 (fifteen years ago) link

I guess ESPN just doesn't care that much about baseball. Here it is, the dog days of August, no football or basketball going on, this is supposed to be when baseball's media coverage is at its peak, right? So why the hell do I look at ESPN.com and the top story is that "college football practice has begun"? Seriously, who gives a FUCK about college football right now???

Mr. Snrub, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 04:54 (fifteen years ago) link

I hear you. Don't get me wrong, I love football, but I don't really give a crud until week 1 starts. Pre-season football is completely useless.

Talking head on 'the herd' today on ESPN was going off from the 'preseason game' with the Colts and Redskins, that the Colts were at best a 4-12 teaqm and the Redskins could get to the NFC championship game. Of course never mind the Colts LOST ALL FOUR of their pre-season games the year they won the Superbowl. Beyond that, I remember reading an article in the Indy Star a couple seasons back on how since Manning has gotten good, the Colts pretty much never run any of their regular plays in the pre-season. Everything is completely generic when it comes to their routes and blocking schemes, that way they cannot use preseason footage to game plan for early season games.

earlnash, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 07:00 (fifteen years ago) link

I always think this is about Bernard Fevre when it shows up in site new answers. carry on.

I know, right?, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 14:18 (fifteen years ago) link

Oh God, please make it stop!!!

leavethecapital, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 14:30 (fifteen years ago) link

Pre-season football is completely useless.

i disagree. i moved adrian peterson WAY up on my fantasy draft board after watching him in 3 preseason games.

chicago kevin, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 14:49 (fifteen years ago) link

no football or basketball going on

au contraire, mr. snrub. training camp has been in full swing, preseason games have begun. football is on. and i personally care more about that than anything that could happen in baseball right now. i'm sure there are more like me, too.

MikeJonze, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 15:35 (fifteen years ago) link

Right here. Screw baseball.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 17:21 (fifteen years ago) link

Since my baseball team was basically eliminated from contention in like May, I am pretty excited about Chargers season. Not so excited about Golden Bears season, though.

As for baseball, wake me up in mid-September.
