CNN calls WV for Byrd (D). Just 22 more...

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 00:37 (seventeen years ago) link

i need a little color-in-map like we had in '04. it's fun to keep score for yourself!

no TV, Ed

Euai Kapaui (tracerhand), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 00:43 (seventeen years ago) link

the internet really falls down with truly LIVE events (excluding those that follow preset patterns like sports)

Euai Kapaui (tracerhand), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 00:44 (seventeen years ago) link

Fuck me, sky news coverage is bad:

Anchor: 'Isn't it refreshing to see an independent coming through from that two party state?'
Pundit: 'That's Connecticut and he isn't really an independent, that's joe Liberman'

Radio 4 should be providing coverage shortly and fox news is offering the chance to watch their radio coverage online.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 00:45 (seventeen years ago) link

what do they show you, live footage of a radio?

s1ocki (slutsky), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 00:49 (seventeen years ago) link

I had no idea Robert Byrd was up for re-election. What kind of opposition could his candidacy muster?

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn (Alfred Soto), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 00:51 (seventeen years ago) link

tracer, if you're desperate for tv, go download tvuplayer. you get abc, nbc, cbs, fox, the lot. got me through the world series.

^@^ (map), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 00:51 (seventeen years ago) link

I can't say I have bothered to find out. On the TV fox they have some people punditing on the whingers who complain about robo-calling and disenfranchisement and even deign to retain lawyers before any problems arise.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 00:52 (seventeen years ago) link

Tracer, NPR live coverage here starting at the top of the hour.

3.2pt lead for Webb (D) in the CNN exit polls for VA senate (based on the gender split scores), but we all remember how those numbers failed to account for the heavily pro-GOP third sex in '04.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 00:54 (seventeen years ago) link

^@^, if it's still PC-only it's no go for me, too

i "hate to say it" but i think NPR would want to make me claw my eyes out even more than the ABC News D-team

Euai Kapaui (tracerhand), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 00:58 (seventeen years ago) link

CNN gives Brown (D) a 16pt lead in OH, but they're not calling it yet (not surprising - it would be the first displaced incumbent).

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 01:00 (seventeen years ago) link

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 01:00 (seventeen years ago) link

3.2pt lead for Webb (D) in the CNN exit polls for VA senate

However, in the real numbers, Allen is 10pts ahead in the first few reporting precincts (could be very Red precincts, I dunno).

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 01:05 (seventeen years ago) link

Allen is now behind.

Who is the skeleton in the glasses on CNN?

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 01:09 (seventeen years ago) link

That would be James Carville.

Django Blowhardt (Rock Hardy), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 01:16 (seventeen years ago) link

Ed's right - it's Webb by 356k-355k votes from 33% of precincts. I was going to stay up for the call on VA and then go to bed figuring that would probably decide the senate (or at least rule out Dem control if Allen was re-elected), but it's heading for a recount at the mo' and might be the very last significant result instead of one of the first.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 01:18 (seventeen years ago) link

BUH-BYE, MAN-ON-DAWG!!

Eisbär (llamasfur), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 01:21 (seventeen years ago) link

Now Allen by 4,000 or so. I'm not going to F5 that all night...

IN-08 goes to Ellsworth by a huge margin and that's the first gain for the Dems - 14 more required for control.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 01:22 (seventeen years ago) link

Allen by 79 votes, 40% of precincts reporting!

Ok, I really will stop now.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 01:25 (seventeen years ago) link

I actually felt a little uncomfortable when Begala called Rush Limbaugh a "drug addled gasbag."

Django Blowhardt (Rock Hardy), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 01:26 (seventeen years ago) link

Another Rep incumbent with a 16pt deficit in a CNN exit poll - Santorum in PA. Apparently one or two networks have now stuck their necks out and called both OH and PA for the Dems.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 01:32 (seventeen years ago) link

BBC saying CBS have called Ohio sen for sherrod brown and polls still open in Cuyahoga county.

NJ called for Menendez

gabbneb (gabbneb), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 01:37 (seventeen years ago) link

VA - the northern VA heavily Dem counties come in last. so it might be a while!

dar1a g (daria g), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 01:37 (seventeen years ago) link

CNN called New Jersey for Menendez over Kean. (xp)

Django Blowhardt (Rock Hardy), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 01:38 (seventeen years ago) link

CNN calling NJ for Menendez - chalk another one off the list (in this case, the list of vulnerable Dems; Cardin had a 9-10pt lead in the MD exit poll, so that may be safe too).

xp

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 01:38 (seventeen years ago) link

omg awesome. totally going to returns party tonight

dar1a g (daria g), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 01:41 (seventeen years ago) link

i think webb is going to pull through in va -- i just spent about 20 minutes looking at the county-by-county returns and lining those up with what i know about these areas from the 20-some years i lived there, and the main areas where allen will be getting his votes (western nova, the blue ridge, south and west of richmond) have much higher reporting numbers. tidewater still has a lot of votes to count, as does eastern nova and, most importantly, montgomery county (my home), which is very left-leaning and has MANY votes yet to be counted. i am feeling optimistic!

Jams Murphy (ystrickler), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 01:41 (seventeen years ago) link

the northern VA heavily Dem counties come in last.

montgomery county (my home), which is very left-leaning and has MANY votes yet to be counted

That's reassuring, chaps - cos it's now Allen by 11,000 with 55% reporting.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 01:42 (seventeen years ago) link

CNN are being VERY cautious - only calling 64 House results whereas CBS have 180+ in (still only one gain but most Dem target haven't come in yet or are still polling).

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 01:46 (seventeen years ago) link

things are looking good generally, but the Foley wave recession seems to have hit Florida - we may not get the 13th or the 16th

on the other hand, New Hampshire looks really good

The Associated Press

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The Senate's No. 3 Republican bit the dust Tuesday. Rick Santorum, one of President Bush's most steadfast supporters, was routed by Robert Casey, the anti-abortion, anti-gun control son of a popular Pennsylvania governor.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 01:52 (seventeen years ago) link

Webb still trailing by 11,000 but only one-seventh of the Montgomery results are in, so he stands to pick up another 6-7,000 in just that county.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 01:53 (seventeen years ago) link

newark star-ledger has predicted that menendez will win via exit polling, though kean leads in the precincts that have reported as of now.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 01:55 (seventeen years ago) link

the nets have called menendez

there is definitely an Iraq wave - we're in reach of taking NH-1 and NC-8

Allen's lead - which was 17,000 a little while ago - is down to 6,000 with 66% reporting.

"One thing I can tell you is this is part of the Democratic playbook," Mehlman said.

keep your ears and eyes open for this one - karl rove has been quietly pimping this line of horseshit at republican fundraisers. they love an opportunity to appear as victims.

xp: (weakly)...yayy...menendez. the guy who favors torture but not the iraq 'war' won. yayy...
