Is brenden fraiser in that? he's sort of creepy? I feel like there were naked boy butts at the beginning of it. This might be a false memory.

yeah, brendan fraser. with the benefit of hindsight, he's totally creepy. there was nakedness!

i don't know how to feel about being totally played by the hot boys + antisemitism = young women will eat this shit up formula.

I really don't remember anything about School Ties. :( Maybe this is a good reason to rewatch all these. You know, to help bring clarification on this highly important and still totally relevant issue. Research, if you will.

i have a feeling i am going to be researching all of this very soon.

I just realized that Dr. Morbius has never seen any of "Sullivan's Travels" past the moment when Joel McCrea is arrested.

xp "School Ties" has Damon AND Affleck. And Amy Locane, remember her?

Since none of these movies were box office hits, how the hell did she learn about them?

Box office disappointments still get ads on TV, especially stations like MTV and Nickelodeon.

"You're quite a creepy person, aren't you?"

buzza, Wednesday, 18 May 2011 19:48 (twelve years ago) link

I don't get the "Sullivan's Travels" ref, Phil, because Albee is way funnier than LvT or satanic Al Pacino in this cockeyed caravan.

x-posts - I do remember Amy Locane. Iirc she's Depp's preppy love interest in Cry Baby.

I now have one of the songs off the Swing Kids sndtrk stuck in my head. WHY DO I REMEMBER THE FREKIN' SONGS?! argh.

I liked Bourne Ultimatum a whole lot, but that's about it on this list, of the ones I've seen. Would love to love Michael Clayton, but that one and Dolores C. seemed too enamored of their lugubriousness.

I really enjoyed this interview with Gilroy, though:

It was a good day to update the Albee thread while you guys are preoccupied with giants like Tony Gilroy, Lars von Trier, and whoever the fuck made Swing Kids.

I read them all, you choad, AND reactivated the Visconti thread. Von Trier isn't much better than Gilroy, by the way.

I can't think of a single white female around my age (28-32ish) who wasn't obsessed with Swing Kids (or isn't still obsessed).
