Coming up: Jeff Weaver will bring the highest ERA on the staff (10.61) into Wednesday's game against the Baltimore Orioles at Vero Beach. Weaver had a 6.99 ERA last spring and started the season with a 6.07 ERA in April before getting back on track. This will be his fourth start of the spring.

Back to the topic at hand:

Weaver gave up 8 hits and 1 walks over 6 innings yesterday, only serving up 3 soft tacos as opposed to the much harder variety that Albert Pujols introduced him to last week.

A close one for Team USA, starter Jered Weaver struck out the first six batters he faced. In the third with two outs, Weaver gave up two runs on a walk, a triple, a single, and a double before retiring Francisco Mendez to end the inning. Weaver only posted four innings before getting yanked.

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 21:19 (eighteen years ago) link

This is an elaborate joke, right? Jered Weaver on...stretching.

"It doesn't feel like your body's supposed to do that, but it needs to," Weaver said. "I just hated the feeling of it. It's like nails on a chalkboard to me. But, if you're gonna commit yourself to staying in this game, if your passion and love is still in it, you're gonna do what it takes to get through that. I'm well aware of what I need to do. I'm going to stay on top of it as much as possible."

Weaver, 33, spoke Sunday at Tempe Diablo Stadium, where the Angels are continuing spring-training exercises. He has thrown two bullpen sessions here and earned positive reviews from the team.

He worked hard at stretching this off-season, he said, and began throwing one month earlier than usual to see if the stretching was working. It was. Weaver said his stretching and massage work was primarily "old school," with "a lot of knees and elbows."

Jered Weaver’s Fastball: Sorry … this is taking a little longer than I thought … almost there

Klaw: Take your time. We’ve got another half hour at least.

Michael: Guys like Weaver and Sabathia presumably wouldn’t make their teams if they were 24 and making $500k. Is it fair to ask then, why don’t those teams just realize the sunk cost and release them?

Klaw: In Weaver’s case they might have to do that – how can you let him start if Carlos Perez could just catch Weaver’s fastball with his teeth?
