I'm a gadgety sort of bloke too, so let me share a secret about gear- freaks: we typically do not like gadgetry as presents. Give him something that lasts a moment in time, but a lifetime in memories.... And then buy him a cheap but well-thought present.

yeah, go with debaser. personally if I want some gadgetry etc then I'd buy it myself... or at the very least want/NEED to choose the item before someone else buys it for me. which isn't very fun. so throw away the budget and buy him some charming 2nd hand junk that says YOU ARE THINKING ABOUT HIM rather than the latest guy-toy. I know it's more work but y'know.

note that this is my preference... it could be that he'd go "hey what's this cheap rub?!" (in a bad way). In which case go with my first answer cos he's a prick. good luX0r!

If he has a PS2, it's hard to go wrong with PS2 games. Otherwise a console like Gamecube or X-Box and a game or two, would be cool for most, especially since you already know he likes video games.

Thanks to everyone for their brilliant suggestions.

So far, I've decided on :

(1) Booking some time at an indoor Karting place (those motorised go- karts) for him and five of his mates, then paying for a pub lunch for them all and taxis home afterwards.

(2) I've had someone take a photo of me on his Fireblade, scanned it into my computer and printed out copies of it on that special paper which turns it into an iron-on transfer. I thought I'd customise a plain duvet cover with it or something.

(3) Same photo currently being glazed onto a coffee mug by a shop in town where they do such things

(4) He told me once about a bit of a prank he got involved in at school, involving the school roof and a teacher's bicycle - he said it made the local papers at the time. After many hours of research in a newspaper archives library, I found the article and photograph - so I've had that printed out and framed it, as a bit of a larf.

(5) I've ordered a couple of little gadgety things from the iwantoneofthose site - the instant mobile phone charger, tiny torch with krypton beam etc, that sort of thing.

Going shopping tomorrow, so hopefully will stumble across some other bits and pieces then.

Thanks again for all the input - I really appreciate it!

There are very few men who have everything

Less than 400 have this
