Hippocratic Oaf (DavidM), Sunday, 8 May 2011 22:25 (thirteen years ago) link

no xmas for jonchaies (nakhchivan), Monday, 9 May 2011 02:15 (thirteen years ago) link

sahara hot nights is awesome

J0rdan S., Monday, 9 May 2011 02:17 (thirteen years ago) link

Since I don't know who they are, I'm going to assume they're nomadic Icelanders who were captured on tape by a documentary crew and are now being exploited by a joint venture of National Geographic and Hot Topic.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 9 May 2011 02:19 (thirteen years ago) link

i mean the cover, i also have no idea who they are

J0rdan S., Monday, 9 May 2011 02:20 (thirteen years ago) link

xp to nakh's cover

Sahara Hotnights are actually a Swedish all-girl group who came around the same time as The Hives and used to sound a lot like The Runaways, but are totally refined and excellent now.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 9 May 2011 02:21 (thirteen years ago) link

That's the D'Eon / Grimes split LP cover, which is an annoying picture of two pretty bad musicians

The Dutch of Dukes, Monday, 9 May 2011 04:01 (thirteen years ago) link

http://www.wit-mag.hk/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/themmk-ciao-baby.jpg

That's some Sergio Mendes/Herb Alpert style done right.

(Don't listen to this band unless you want a sugar headache, though.)

Johnny Fever, Monday, 9 May 2011 06:59 (thirteen years ago) link

cuet, but trying so hard that the music needs to measure up

mookieproof, Monday, 9 May 2011 07:04 (thirteen years ago) link

Can't get over that Sahara Hotnights; it's so cynical but I still wish like crazy I was on that plane.

Cosmo Vitelli, Monday, 9 May 2011 07:18 (thirteen years ago) link

Has a Blancmange meets Supertramp vibe.
plus some Kraftwerk

I agree with these things re: Sahara Hotnights. I really miss painted cover art. Everything now is just splatters and doodles OR created to look like paintings in Illustrator and Photoshop. I probably won't buy it on vinyl because I don't have a turntable, but I really hope the LP release is gatefold and on heavy stock.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 9 May 2011 07:29 (thirteen years ago) link

^ I realize that sounds all "you darned kids!" but I'm kind of sick of covers that just look like photos from flickr or a few brushstrokes on a block of wood.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 9 May 2011 07:44 (thirteen years ago) link

o no the sahara hotnights is grebt

although i wish there was a more evident hint of menace in it

mookieproof, Monday, 9 May 2011 07:48 (thirteen years ago) link

Maybe when you open the gatefold there's a goblin on the wing.

Agarbatti Boy (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Monday, 9 May 2011 07:49 (thirteen years ago) link

Definitely something going on under that blanket imo.

popular gay automobile (a hoy hoy), Monday, 9 May 2011 21:43 (thirteen years ago) link

Galactic Melt reminds me of an upside down Unknown Pleasures that someone painted and put stickers on.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 9 May 2011 21:44 (thirteen years ago) link

The Bodies of Water cover is beautiful, moving even.

This looked cool to me at first, but on further thought it's pretty bland. Kinda like the band.

Tuomas, Tuesday, 10 May 2011 07:09 (thirteen years ago) link

IT SHOULD REALLY GO WITHOUT SAYING THAT IF A PIECE OF ALBUM ART DOES NOT INCORPORATE THE ARTIST AND ALBUM'S NAME, YOU SHOULD PROBABLY POST THAT ALONG WITH THE IMAGE

JUST SAYING

gr8080, Tuesday, 10 May 2011 07:55 (thirteen years ago) link

the sahara hotnights cover is amazing. i'm also amazed that they're still going. almost makes me want to hear the album but surely it can't be any good.

lex pretend, Tuesday, 10 May 2011 07:58 (thirteen years ago) link

Whoops, sorry, the cover I posted is for Realism by Shine 2009 (what a stupid band name, even if it's deliberately stupid).

Tuomas, Tuesday, 10 May 2011 08:04 (thirteen years ago) link

Looks like a CGI still from a fabric softener ad.

Number None, Tuesday, 10 May 2011 09:37 (thirteen years ago) link

Or a bad day at the beach chair factory.

Agarbatti Boy (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Tuesday, 10 May 2011 09:45 (thirteen years ago) link

Bad Day at the Beach Chair Factory is a better name than Shine 2009
