for lazy ppl, this blog has quite a few of the remixes - http://melofon.blogspot.com/2008/06/aeroplane-remixes.html

For some reason I didn't like the RA mix on first listen, but love it now. I think the MGMT one is the best I've heard, I think, as it transforms the original.

Flying Mix Tim mentioned is here http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ROLCR5VY

Jamie T Smith, Friday, 12 December 2008 11:03 (fifteen years ago) link

Actually, no it isn't. It's a mix called Take Off. I thought someone had just mislabelled it, but the second track on this one is Soft Rocks "Midnight Drive" or the song that that is an edit of.

Actually, just found a tracklist:

01. Château Flight : “GRN Aventurine” (Sonar Kollektiv)
02. Soft Rocks : “Look East” (Soft Rocks)
03. Enzo Ponzio : ” Italian Boy” (Pizzico)
04. Discossesion : “Mahmoods Moon” (Crue-l Future)
05. Peter Visti : “Tokyo By Night” (Eskimo promo)
06. Toby Tobias Feat. Kathy Diamond : “The Feeling” (Rekids promo)
07. Late Of The Pier : “The Bears Are Coming” - BTWS remix (Zarcorp)
08. Jose Gonzales : “Killing For Love” - Todd Terje mix (promo)
09. Lullabies In The Dark : “Song for M&E” - Aeroplane mix (Permanent Vacation)
10. 40 Thieves : ” Theme From Nutrider” (Permanent Vacation promo)
11. Hess Is More : “Would You Like to Disco” - Dub (Music For Dreams)
12. Louis : “Pink Foothpath” - Instrumental Version (Max Music)

(I think they've mixed up the sides on that Soft Rocks record, though)

Jamie T Smith, Friday, 12 December 2008 11:41 (fifteen years ago) link

So while I listen to this, does anyone have a working link to the Flying Mix?

Jamie T Smith, Friday, 12 December 2008 11:42 (fifteen years ago) link

not the mix you're looking for:

The lack of love for the Pacific Air Race 12" has me a little down. "Above the Clouds" is the peak of their original material thus far.

mr. anephric (the anephric project), Friday, 12 December 2008 15:45 (fifteen years ago) link

RBMA Radio just added a new Aeroplane Mix and it is goooood.

oscar, Sunday, 14 December 2008 23:34 (fifteen years ago) link

this rbma mix is better than the ra podcast imo

oscar, Monday, 15 December 2008 00:35 (fifteen years ago) link

i think the reason that i didn't rate "pacific air race" as high as the first single is because i just have not listened to it as much. i bought the vinyl on release and then it kind of went into the pile. i'll give it another try. i remember really like the cover art.

tricky, Monday, 15 December 2008 02:52 (fifteen years ago) link

dub version is better than the regular style one

♪☺♫☻ (gr8080), Monday, 15 December 2008 02:55 (fifteen years ago) link

yup, but i think the real keeper here is "above the clouds". it sounds like a studio out-take (the swedish guys, not an actual out-take.)

i think i remember reading something about an album being in the works or maybe it was a remix comp. can anyone confirm/deny?

tricky, Monday, 15 December 2008 03:32 (fifteen years ago) link

I believe I read on another board that they're recording an album in the first few months of '09.

"above the clouds" is the only thing i dont have--- can someone ysi

I made a compilation of their best stuff for a friend over the weekend and it really is the best thing ever. I don't think I quite appreciated just how good they are at producing shiver-down-spine moments - it's like they've got it down to an exact science.

Matt DC, Monday, 15 December 2008 11:51 (fifteen years ago) link

Yeah, they make it seem almost too easy. Their music.... wells up more effortlessly than just about anything.

Like, the breakdown bit at the three-four minute mark in the Low Motion Disco is almost offensively smug in its own largesse, "bet you can't do this, eh!"

Tim F, Monday, 15 December 2008 12:57 (fifteen years ago) link

What was the tracklisting from your compilation Matt?

That's the video of him playing that Beach Boys edit. Ace. Can't wait to pick this up. If that video is any indication, this is going to slay dancefloors in 09.

There's a different version of that Beach Boys edit too, a bit less cheesy than the one in the video I think.

plazzTT, Tuesday, 16 December 2008 15:03 (fifteen years ago) link

It was supposedly going to be released on one of the Mindless Boogie 12" edits series, but as of yet it doesn't really have a release date or any other concrete information. I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't even come out.

jesus christ look at these fucking gobshites etc

♪☺♫☻ (gr8080), Saturday, 20 December 2008 03:43 (fifteen years ago) link

ya, i think my least favorite part of the remix is the refrain where the original dude sings "they'll be out for us" in that indie-anthem-fuxxor voice. the original wasn't as bad as i expected from that one line (i quite like the cowbells!), but it still sounds like a third string dfa act.

somehow the aeroplane remix makes me forget all about that douchey neckwear...

psychgawsple, Saturday, 20 December 2008 06:01 (fifteen years ago) link

i mean i loled right off the bat when i saw that FF had a male vocalist and realized aeroplane had said "hey i know! lets get a girl to sing it instead!"

♪☺♫☻ (gr8080), Saturday, 20 December 2008 06:16 (fifteen years ago) link

That video of the "God Only Knows" edit was shot on the night I saw them! I'm in the audience somewhere.

Re the Flying Mix:

a) Isn't Tensnake's "Tavira" totally amazing?

b) The Aeroplane remix of Lindstrom & Solale is such an amazingly compulsive track, that guitar is insane. The sudden organ vamps remind me of Fela Kuti for some reason. Although it does make me think that if Aeroplane blow up it will kinda mean that Reverso 68 wuz robbed.
