How has it been recently? I've clicked out completely. I even sometimes listen to the Wrap-Up first and if it sounds dull I skip it. Shame when the WUS is more interesting than the Stern show.

Moment of the week so far (I'm up to Wednesday) was Howard doing his Don Corleone impression: "Eh...now you have something to promote, you want to come on the show...eh, but I don't get any favors, I don't get a card at Christmas..."

I miss Artie
― calstars, Thursday, 16 June 2011 01:06 (twelve years ago) link
he does this thing, where, before he relates some heartwrenching detail of his lifehe laughs hysterically
he sounds like he's on the verge of tearseveryone else catches the laughter for a second, especially robin, but then even she quiets down as itgoes on a bit too long
then he tells the story of buying teeth for his """bodyguard""""whose teeth were rotted out from years of drug abuse, postnasal cocaine drip
or the story of being in the hospital after smashing his forehead, fucked up on heroinand the phone ringing-- the nurse answers and says, "oh that's horrible."artie breaks into his almost-crying laughter here and can't say what the person on the other end said"he said he was your brother.""i don't have a brother. what he say?""he called you a tub of lard"

when elliot offen appears at around the 2 minute mark with his story about busting up joey corsin jaw at the stage delicatessen...
I LEFT HIM FOR DEAD ... RIGHT? three hundred terrified, horrified witnesses saw me leave joe corsin for dead

favorite elliot moment was when he was in a car on the street, opened the door without looking - a car shears the door off and he just laughs hysterically

he's amazing....
it wasn't mentioned here and it's been about a month but it was great to hear artie and nick dipaolo talking sports and artie talking seriously about being a little more healthy.

for sheer dumb brute funniness i love shit like carefully staged bigfoot prank calls
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kpEDSUUH7Qo
there are some richard and sal pranks that are like i don't want to sound like stockhausen on 9/11 but they're so artfully carefully staged and they knock me out.
― dylannn, Sunday, 4 September 2011 04:02 (twelve years ago) link
yeah i think Richard in particular has had some really creative ones. my all-time fave is when he layered his voice so that he was saying multiple things at the same time and the poor person on the other line didnt know which one to respond to!

really didn't espect the next lesson on the de facto limits of free speech to come from Tony Bennett.

Any suggestion by a public figure that 9/11 was, as Malcolm X surely would have said, a case of "the chickens coming home to roost" must follow it up within 24 hours with an abject apology.

artie on letterman tonight
― dylannn, Saturday, 15 October 2011 00:41 (twelve years ago) link
sort of bombed on letterman with good material but all over the place timing.
is the nick and artie show any good? i haven't missed it so far and i think it's really good but i've heard a lot of people saying the opposite. nick dipaolo... sometimes he seems unwilling to play along with the format and fucks with callers in really obnoxious ways, and he seems too quick to shut down artie's bits.
― dylannn, Tuesday, 25 October 2011 11:02 (twelve years ago) link
Nick and Artie is OK but not good enough to listen to consistently. Artie in my opinion is a sideman and Nick is just not up to par yet. More than anything I wish Artie would go back with Howard.
― calstars, Saturday, 29 October 2011 00:16 (twelve years ago) link
a caller finally directly broached the topic and asked why artie doesn't go back on stern. he said, hey, it was my fault, can't blame them. i screwed it up.
i dunno, i listen to it compulsively, despite nick dipaolo 1) being a shitty radio guy, 2) constantly tellingme about how women are taking over the country and how it sucks that we can't make jokes about gays and blacksanymore.
artie doing bill curtis calling the world series had me laughing more than anything i've heard in a while.
― dylannn, Saturday, 29 October 2011 07:29 (twelve years ago) link
kurtis.
i remember when i wasn't that into stern and i read the summary in the first post here and i thought, goddamn, who could listen to that??? i came around and i've heard that show in particular, even, andit's entertaining enough but... these days, i can't get into it, the few live shows per week.
