Those comments on that story.

I'm more surprised people still care that much.

Chord Overstreet

He's an actor on the show, yes.

jaymc, Friday, 15 April 2011 13:52 (thirteen years ago) link

Chord Overstreet sounds like a nefarious yuppie property developer trying to get the school bus taken away in the 80s movie 'Rebecca's Crazy Friday' co starring John Cusack

Exactly. I was just c&ping it because I honestly couldn't tell if that was his real name or his character's name. For his sake, I hoped the latter, but I looked it up and saw the truth. Poor kid.

According to my very brief research this morning, his dad is the country singer Paul Overstreet and Chord and Nash are his two sons' real names.

Not sure the ultimate meaning of it all, but has there ever been a song more than this one that everybody knows despite almost no radio airplay?

Lee626, Thursday, 21 April 2011 11:47 (thirteen years ago) link

Did that Bed Intruder thing get much airplay?

President Keyes, Thursday, 21 April 2011 13:58 (thirteen years ago) link

don't think so, pretty sure it never showed up on any airplay charts anyhow

teledyldonix, Thursday, 21 April 2011 15:35 (thirteen years ago) link

"My Jeans" is even worse than "Friday".... I mean, despite the "duh" factor in most of its lyrics, "Friday" at least is about something most of us can relate to and understand- how great the end of the work/school week feels. But "My Jeans" acts as if wearing jeans was a unique fashion statement and not the generic piece of clothing it is. Or like there's something special about the way she wears them and that everyone else had copied her. Or like she was the first to ever wear jeans. (yeah I know, not just any jeans but her kind, as if jeans don't all look pretty much alike).

I wish I was there to witness Jenna's horror upon discovering others watch her YouTube video on the same brand of laptop computer she has!

Or like there's something special about the way she wears them and that everyone else had copied her. Or like she was the first to ever wear jeans. (yeah I know, not just any jeans but her kind, as if jeans don't all look pretty much alike).

but her cluelessness is pretty much the point, isn't it? because 99% of "My Jeans"s humor is unintentional, it's easy to forget that it's a goofy and satirical song by design. Jenna herself isn't the butt of the joke, of course, but she's playing the part of a vain girl who's blissfully unaware of her own pettiness (cf. Ashley Tisdale's character in High School Musical) and having fun with the role.

by comparison, nothing about "Friday" (the song, not the video) is intentionally funny except for the part where the dude gets stuck behind a school bus and wants to scream.

neither of these are bad songs and diafiud.

administratieve blunder (unregistered), Saturday, 23 April 2011 05:11 (thirteen years ago) link

gotta say, the "Ashley Tisdale’s wearing my jeans/ Keke Palmer’s wearing my jeans" bit confused me at first. I thought she was excited and flattered that all those fake celebrities were dressing like her, but nope, even Disney princesses are filthy swag-jackers in her eyes.

gr8080, Saturday, 23 April 2011 06:45 (thirteen years ago) link

I usually catch pop-culture references, but am either too old or too young (parents) to catch "High School Musical".

That's what I found so hilarious/sad/pathetic/bizarre about "Jeans" - that anyone would get uptight because she saw someone wearing the same jeans she is wearing. Like the factory custom-designed one pair just for her or something.

I don't think I've ever given a shred of thought to whether anyone else was wearing the same kind of jeans as me. Not that i'd notice if they did... the fashion-obsessed live in their own little world.

Lee626, Saturday, 23 April 2011 14:45 (thirteen years ago) link

It's not the world's worst song, and it's not even the world's worst singer, but it is sincere enough for some people, which makes it a grotesque waste of everyone else's time. She's like that girl from church who probably has sometalent and everyone has to pretend to like her. And who needs that.
