being a britisher, i really don't understand these... are these people really stupid enough to think that they may make people forget that obama is in the shit because of the past 8 years, and not yet president? It hurts my mind and yet I still keep this thread bookmarked...

I don't recall the second amendment having anything to say about people having to wear clothes in national parks?

Vault Boy Bobblehead: Drinking (kingfish), Thursday, 11 December 2008 22:44 (fifteen years ago) link

oh duh. cuz the thing is that you can carry in a lot of nat'l parks!

Tanganyika laughter epidemic (gbx), Thursday, 11 December 2008 23:13 (fifteen years ago) link

oh duh, concealed weapons, i am an idiot.

Tanganyika laughter epidemic (gbx), Thursday, 11 December 2008 23:30 (fifteen years ago) link

Shit I'd certainly feel safer in a National Park knowing that anyone I see might be carrying a concealed weapon

what the fucking fuck

ledge, Thursday, 11 December 2008 23:37 (fifteen years ago) link

One of the orginal reasons they banned loaded weapons in Nat'l Parks (unlike Nat's Forests where it's permitted) is that hunting is strictly prohibited and they didn't want any jackasses poaching endangered species.

i was thinking of forests!

Tanganyika laughter epidemic (gbx), Thursday, 11 December 2008 23:44 (fifteen years ago) link

i thought the people in the first frame were meant to be cavemen or something.

mensrightsguy (internet person), Thursday, 11 December 2008 23:50 (fifteen years ago) link

No, they're just the kind of cretins who feel 'naked' when they're not packing heat.

a serviceable substitute for wit (Michael White), Thursday, 11 December 2008 23:54 (fifteen years ago) link

I mean I can see the argument for concealed carry in an urban situation. I don't buy it, but I can see it. In a national park though, those hotbeds of crime and violence, sure, whatever, you batshit rightwing loon.

and yeah the literal depiction of the 'exposed' metaphor in the cartoon is totally confusing and dumb.

ledge, Thursday, 11 December 2008 23:54 (fifteen years ago) link

Anyone remember a parody piece written after Virginia Tech, imagining what would happen if all students could 'pack heat'?

ledge, Thursday, 11 December 2008 23:57 (fifteen years ago) link

I believe, under the old law, you could bring your weapon into the park but it had to remain broken down or locked or something and the ammo had to be stored separately or something. I mean, an outright ban would be an undue burden of people traveling thousands of miles, who want to get in alittle , legal hunting along the way or whatnot, but concealed weapons in nat'l parks is pretty fucked up.

a serviceable substitute for wit (Michael White), Thursday, 11 December 2008 23:58 (fifteen years ago) link

can someone please explain why they make such a distinction between weapons and concealed weapons?

koogs, Friday, 12 December 2008 09:25 (fifteen years ago) link

those lisa benson drawings as well, are you sure they are rightwing batshit cartoons becuase i've been reading them the other way entirely. eg that it's a crying shame that public education doesn't afford people any choices. (ok, the others, i can't really explain those)

koogs, Friday, 12 December 2008 09:28 (fifteen years ago) link

Probably because hunting is boring but concealed weapons mean that hopefully someday your fantasy of killing a kid who mugs you or breaks into your house can come true.

i meant that the punch line was that without guns, people are "exposed". i think they say that exactly too.

Vault Boy Bobblehead: Drinking (kingfish), Friday, 12 December 2008 20:53 (fifteen years ago) link

I think his point is "government money" is actually "taxpayer money."

Kerm, Friday, 12 December 2008 20:59 (fifteen years ago) link

how is that a "point"? the money you pay in taxes originally belonged to someone else before you traded your labor for it, and by paying taxes you're trading it for labor and services done by the government. it's no more a fiction than "taxpayer money" or "corporate money" or anything else

I almost revived the current-ish thread with Ferguson materials but I got too angry at the batshit ones - though they seemed thin on the ground - surprising number of conservative cartoons focusing, reasonably, on the militarization of Main Street theme, etc.

Doctor Casino, Tuesday, 3 March 2015 02:03 (nine years ago) link

i may be totally off here but i think conservative keyboard warriors really only got on board very recently. it seems like i remember even dudes like glenn beck being FOR it back when it first became a mainstream(ish) concern. of course this all changed as soon as the usual suspects started spoon-feeding the idiot feedback loop
