ha very 90s

banjee trillness (The Reverend), Monday, 11 April 2011 04:20 (thirteen years ago) link

Except that the 90s would've demanded the pattern to be in some bright colour and the text to be in some other bright colour. B&w is boring.

Thought this was quite neat at first but now I think that tree is not quite right

ridic beau (NickB), Monday, 11 April 2011 13:42 (thirteen years ago) link

I don't know what to say about that, but I love those colors.

the best reggae summer club there used to be in Helsinki (kkvgz), Monday, 11 April 2011 14:53 (thirteen years ago) link

And it has to be said, that is 1,000s of times better than their previous album.

The fronds are totally lifelike, but I'm not sure a trunk that thin would support them (or maybe it would...there about so many different kinds of palms).

That's why they call me (Johnny Fever), Monday, 11 April 2011 14:57 (thirteen years ago) link

^ exactly what was bugging me! They've gone too close to the edge of the trunk with their axis of reflection.

ridic beau (NickB), Monday, 11 April 2011 15:01 (thirteen years ago) link

Perhaps they weren't going for verisimilitude here.

Maybe it's some kind of English palm tree we don't know yet.

VegemiteGrrl, Monday, 11 April 2011 17:12 (thirteen years ago) link

been on 2 diff comput0rz for this thread and the tree album is looking radically different color-wise on this public computer. i mostly blame kids fucking w/ the settings but from what i remember when i saw it earlier the tree wasn't "set" during night-time

As far as "new records by people who've been making records for close to 40 years" go, that's actually not as c0rny as it could've been. Generally, people who peaked in the 70s and 80s do not understand the photoshops, though.

the flare looks like she is being attacked by a giant bubble a la "the Prisoner"

VegemiteGrrl, Tuesday, 12 April 2011 16:57 (thirteen years ago) link

i was actually wondering if that was her or a much younger lookalike

banjee trillness (The Reverend), Tuesday, 12 April 2011 17:02 (thirteen years ago) link

I've seen her in an interview w/in the last year and her face looks like that now. Dunno if it's plastics or botox or what, but something's going on.

That's why they call me (Johnny Fever), Tuesday, 12 April 2011 17:05 (thirteen years ago) link

definitely does look a very young her...she must have a good surgeon. Or a good photoshopper

VegemiteGrrl, Tuesday, 12 April 2011 17:09 (thirteen years ago) link

clearly not the latter

black bloc bologna (blueski), Tuesday, 12 April 2011 17:20 (thirteen years ago) link

for her face, not the album cover in general I mean :)

VegemiteGrrl, Tuesday, 12 April 2011 17:21 (thirteen years ago) link

awesome cover

Oink Administrator (gr8080), Tuesday, 12 April 2011 18:49 (thirteen years ago) link

Going back to that Metronomy cover, how lazy is it to use the official promo poster for the English Riviera and cut the bit of the bottom that says "ENGLISH RIVIERA TORQUAY PAINTON BRIXHAM"? The reason it looks like a 70s design is because it is:

Haha, wow.

ridic beau (NickB), Wednesday, 13 April 2011 10:09 (thirteen years ago) link

Also, I am so bummed that they bottled it and photoshopped out the unicorn's horn on the Stevie Nicks cover.

ridic beau (NickB), Wednesday, 13 April 2011 10:10 (thirteen years ago) link

Okay, stealing from England's yesteryear, way to fucking go. It looks great in that creamy frame though.

Haha he really does!

Only in it for the money etc.

Future Debts Collector (Le Bateau Ivre), Wednesday, 13 April 2011 12:28 (thirteen years ago) link

I will never tire of a translucent paint splatter writing over a black & white photo (well, maybe not never...but you have to go a long way to fuck it up imo)

The Metronomy / Riviera cover tree is symmetrical, isn't it? Which is why it feels wrong.
