lauren, Wednesday, 10 December 2008 19:34 (fifteen years ago) link

ian, Wednesday, 10 December 2008 19:43 (fifteen years ago) link

at my girl's request we are going out to Wondee Siam tonight
will i enjoy this circle one y/n

forksclovetofu, Wednesday, 10 December 2008 19:44 (fifteen years ago) link

ian, definitely.

oddly enough, there was just a post on chowhound about wondee. apparently you can order pork laab/larb off-menu, and it's delicious.

lauren, Wednesday, 10 December 2008 19:50 (fifteen years ago) link

funny you should mention that, cuz that's almost certainly why my girl wants to go; she's something of a larb fanatic.

forksclovetofu, Wednesday, 10 December 2008 20:12 (fifteen years ago) link

ha! she probably saw that. it may have been wondee siam II, actually.

lauren, Wednesday, 10 December 2008 20:14 (fifteen years ago) link

P.S. If any of you work or frequently pass anywhere around Lexington and 25th, please eat at this new Vietnamese sandwich place called Baoguette, because it is cheap and delicious and I need it to stay in business for work-lunch purposes. So far I have eaten there about 50% of the total days they've been open.

i'm going to be near there tomorrow, but i was thinking for lunch i would trek up to sarge's deli for matzoh ball soup! ohhhh option anxiety.

shamwow 69 (get bent), Wednesday, 10 December 2008 20:34 (fifteen years ago) link

nothing says "melting pot" like matzoh ball soup & bahn mi.

ian, Wednesday, 10 December 2008 20:45 (fifteen years ago) link

It's $5 for the full sandwich and a soda. I don't know how to stop myself from eating there every day and getting gout from all the pate.

nabisco, Wednesday, 10 December 2008 20:53 (fifteen years ago) link

i wonder if it's related to bao noodles, which is like a block over.

down at the lido they welcome you with sausage and beer

shamwow 69 (get bent), Friday, 12 December 2008 21:13 (fifteen years ago) link

would kill for a ticket to the blue hills thing, we'll be going when we're over I think but only for a visit to the stone barns centre. We did consider a meal at the manhattan venue for our solo meal but it's just that wee bit too pricey, Irving Mill looks like our lunch spot though.

ian-

yes same bonnies. They have/had a basic italian sausage sandwich which I like very much. What I really like at Bonnie's is the spicy mayo they put on all the tables for my fries.

new-ish pizzeria on graham (motorino) is good. the special app (oven-roasted mortadella) was both funny and delicious: basically, giant triangles of fried baloney.

lauren, Tuesday, 16 December 2008 19:30 (fifteen years ago) link

anyone been to bellavitae? we're going this weekend. we're hoping for something good, italian, not a zillion bucks.

Surmounter, Wednesday, 17 December 2008 22:29 (fifteen years ago) link

let me get this straight yr saying yr not sure if you need an electric blue sign in comic sans font with a neon fish on it on yr block - now why are you saying this? is it because u already have a bunch of those? seems like the more the merrier or whatever

ice cr?m, Wednesday, 17 December 2008 22:45 (fifteen years ago) link

j3W1SH LAGG4RD (Lamp), Wednesday, 17 December 2008 22:53 (fifteen years ago) link

man i am just trying to bring joy to the world ok

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Wednesday, 17 December 2008 22:54 (fifteen years ago) link

Tipsy -- not a zillion bucks, no. Been twice and enjoyed both. Don't know your tastes, but I've enjoyed a lot of the early plates (little fried meatballs are fun, and there's a variety of high-quality parmesans, balsamics, and prosciuttos that are a treat to savor one flavor at a time); pretty good pastas in that $16-$20 range that could get you crap pasta somewhere else; and ... actually, entree-wise, I've only had their grilled baby octopus, which is straightforwardly tasty.

I can't think of much about the place that'd be bothersome or disappointing: prices aren't bad and food's solid. (Though it's no Smith's, down MacDougal.)

nabisco, Wednesday, 17 December 2008 22:54 (fifteen years ago) link

this is somehow even worse that the blockbuster horror move the ruins. or, more topically, the pizza options available in tribeca

j3W1SH LAGG4RD (Lamp), Wednesday, 17 December 2008 22:55 (fifteen years ago) link

hey did anyone here ever get more 411 about char 4 re: foods

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Wednesday, 17 December 2008 22:56 (fifteen years ago) link

"treat to savor one flavor at a time" -- that sounds like Gene Shalit doing restaurants or something, sorry; I just mean tasting those particularly good things almost individually and finding yourself saying, e.g., "okay, now that's a delicious vinegar." I could happily sit at the bar there just eating Reggiano and balsamic on bread.

nabisco, Wednesday, 17 December 2008 22:56 (fifteen years ago) link

theres a store in la, in los feliz, that does some srs shit w/ balsamic, $40 .5 liter bottles, im sure nyc has a similar store, but my point is just that good balsamic vinegar is l.e.g.i.t. and if i was rich i would never buy anything else

beyonc'e (max), Wednesday, 17 December 2008 22:58 (fifteen years ago) link

wait -- you are not rich??

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Wednesday, 17 December 2008 22:59 (fifteen years ago) link

had brunch here and it was good but not special. the bacon was certainly really tasty and not surprisingly the high point although i think the do a fig jam that is supposed to be good. a little $$ but not bad value

j3W1SH LAGG4RD (Lamp), Wednesday, 17 December 2008 23:05 (fifteen years ago) link

thx nabisco. sounds like what we're looking for. plus i've heard the wines are good.

(as i guess the name implies...)

tipsy mothra, Wednesday, 17 December 2008 23:46 (fifteen years ago) link

so no. 7 has become a fast fixture. i also just tried the bar menu. the fry plate is great (i dunno if i already said that). you get a LOT of fries -- they're like really crispy. like chips. really good balsamic mayo.

also i can't get enough of that fried broccoli. i wanna sit at the bar tomorrow and just have one of those with a glass of wine. yum.

Surmounter, Friday, 26 December 2008 06:27 (fifteen years ago) link

i guess i should probably try this at some point.

I could walk to Lexington and 25th for Baoguette during the week, but am closer to Hill Country on 26th near 6th.
