This was my Day One: http://troubleddiva.wordpress.com/2011/04/04/music-diary-project-day-one/

mike t-diva, Tuesday, 5 April 2011 07:37 (thirteen years ago) link

Over 50 blogs & tumblrs & stuff are involved in this so far. My blog, which normally averages 50-200 hits a day, got over 1,700 yesterday, and has nearly 500 already today. It's a little mental.

I have listened to no music at all today. Not one little bit.

lol sickmouthy (Scik Mouthy), Tuesday, 5 April 2011 09:04 (thirteen years ago) link

Nick can I take part if I don't have a blog?

MaresNest, Tuesday, 5 April 2011 09:20 (thirteen years ago) link

That's something a couple of people have asked; I don't see why not at all. The whole point is just to document what you listen to, so anywhere you can do that - there's no reason not to post your listening on this thread, for instance. People are doing that on the Drownedinsound thread about it. I've seen another guy using Facebook; I know someone else who's tweetign nothing but #musicdiaryupdates this week. Plus several people have set up Tumblrs just for the week, I gather.

lol sickmouthy (Scik Mouthy), Tuesday, 5 April 2011 09:23 (thirteen years ago) link

Okay thanks.

MaresNest, Tuesday, 5 April 2011 09:29 (thirteen years ago) link

i've actually delayed doing my first quarter report on tumblr b/c of this (otherwise it'd be LIST OVERLOAD) (which is why i'm not bothering twitter too much about it)

lex pretend, Tuesday, 5 April 2011 09:30 (thirteen years ago) link

here is my day one: http://stopmoving.tumblr.com/post/4335482416/music-diary-project

i was thinking, oh, this is a weird week because i'm in london and have a friend visiting and etc so it's not going to reflect my typical listening habits, but tbh i don't know that i ever have a 'typical' week

c sharp major, Tuesday, 5 April 2011 09:55 (thirteen years ago) link

swapping ipods when travelling with someone! how have i never thought of this before!

lex pretend, Tuesday, 5 April 2011 09:57 (thirteen years ago) link

Monday 05-Apr, I listened to:

Art of Noise: "Into Battle With", the new 'deluxe' version with the unreleased "Worship" album added as extra. In the car, during a shopping run.

Mark G, Tuesday, 5 April 2011 10:38 (thirteen years ago) link

swapping ipods while travelling is kind of tricky-- always the possibility you'll end up judging them by what they have, or miss out on good stuff because the name means nothing to you, or, if you're me, get annoyed by poor mp3 tagging.

but when it works it's p fun.

c sharp major, Tuesday, 5 April 2011 10:43 (thirteen years ago) link

barest of barebones tumblr, if I get time I'll make it a little easier on the eye. Day one:

Well over 70 blogs etc involved now.

lol sickmouthy (Scik Mouthy), Tuesday, 5 April 2011 21:00 (thirteen years ago) link

i hate to be annoying (yeah right!) but just gonna post my stuff in this thread each day or two

Monday:

Panda Bear – Tomboy – full album (NPR stream)
Lull – Dreamt about Dreaming – first 20 min. or so
Craft Spells – Idle Labor – full album
Aaliyah – “Choosey Lover (Old School/New School)”

Tuesday (so far):

ESG – Dance to the Best of ESG – first 30 min. of disc 1
Bardo Pond – s/t album – first three songs
The Mountain Goats – four songs played live, SPIN.com video

hey ilxor, thanks for contributing, glad you stopped by (ilxor), Tuesday, 5 April 2011 21:05 (thirteen years ago) link

How is Tomboy?

Nult AGL (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 5 April 2011 21:07 (thirteen years ago) link

I really like it so far.

lol sickmouthy (Scik Mouthy), Tuesday, 5 April 2011 21:15 (thirteen years ago) link

i like it! lots of looped vocals, big washes of processed guitar, rudimentary backing rhythms. as usual, the melodies he comes up with on a few tracks floor me; others are more ambient, or sound like a skipping disc, looping over and over.

have a listen yourself -

Yeah I found that link like 10 minutes ago. It's like an indie version of an old Scientist dub record or something - I think I like it?

Nult AGL (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 5 April 2011 21:19 (thirteen years ago) link

not sounding too confident there

lex pretend, Friday, 8 April 2011 02:37 (thirteen years ago) link

it's almost emasculating reading how much music you guys listen to throughout the day. 3 albums a day for me is an accomplishment!

kelpolaris, Friday, 8 April 2011 03:52 (thirteen years ago) link

Yeah my head would explode if I ever listened to as much as lex.

popular gay automobile (a hoy hoy), Friday, 8 April 2011 09:41 (thirteen years ago) link

Lex listens to way more than I do, although I probably trumped most people yesterday due to a rather epic session. I was listening pretty constantly from about 8am until 11pm. Or, rather, I had music on for pretty much all that time. Whether any actual active listening took place rather than just just passive absorption is a different matter; but that's the point of the project.

lol sickmouthy (Scik Mouthy), Friday, 8 April 2011 09:48 (thirteen years ago) link

i pretty much listen to music whenever i'm not actually with people (unless i'm transcribing or watching tennis or doing something incompatible w/music) - and this week's been a pretty socialising-heavy one. i never watch tv, which might explain a lot of it. am pretty much incapable of sitting in silence.

lex pretend, Friday, 8 April 2011 09:53 (thirteen years ago) link

also whenever i'm on the move i ALWAYS have my ipod on, which accounts for a large amount of time

lex pretend, Friday, 8 April 2011 09:54 (thirteen years ago) link

i also end up listening to totally new-to-me songs every day - yesterday was atypical in that i only listened to five new songs, the live stuff excepted...funny given what some people round here seem to think of me

lex pretend, Friday, 8 April 2011 10:08 (thirteen years ago) link

Right, yesterday I did listen to:

Finished up that Screamadelica live set
Voice of the Seven Thunders, st.

When's it finishing, today?

Mark G, Friday, 8 April 2011 10:50 (thirteen years ago) link

I'm going to go through the weekend, and send out a survey, but if people only want to do up to today, that's fine.

lol sickmouthy (Scik Mouthy), Friday, 8 April 2011 10:59 (thirteen years ago) link

my Thursday

Ita Buttrock (sic), Friday, 8 April 2011 11:20 (thirteen years ago) link

Ah right, through the wekend too. Righto.

Thing is, we're on a long journey, so I can furnish you with the playlist which is individual tracks, as well as particular albums too...
