Okay, it's not really a 3-hour set if the band stops twice for an over half-hour dj set, just sayin'.

no dj sets at the terminal 5 shows

Is the stream of the MSG show supposed to be on PFork's main page? I can't find it.

oh, I guess Safari AdBlocker was killing it

Do we have any clues/guesses as to what the final song will be?

Uteruses Before Duderuses (Johnny Fever), Sunday, 3 April 2011 02:29 (thirteen years ago) link

they've closed like every concert since SoS with new york i love you, so probably that?

Clay, Sunday, 3 April 2011 02:57 (thirteen years ago) link

It's a lot easier to hate, but watching this live stream the band is on par with "Stop Making Sense" Heads. For lots of obvious reasons, sure, but I can't think of many acts operating at this level.

Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 3 April 2011 03:13 (thirteen years ago) link

reminiscent, maybe. "on par"? see Stop Making Sense again.

da croupier, Sunday, 3 April 2011 03:15 (thirteen years ago) link

Still think the most recent album was a letdown, but I'm having a blast watching this/saying goodbye to 'em.

The band is amazing. James Murphy just seems to be inconsequential ringleader.

Uteruses Before Duderuses (Johnny Fever), Sunday, 3 April 2011 03:16 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah this is a total just unbelievable blast

Clay, Sunday, 3 April 2011 03:16 (thirteen years ago) link

Nancy Whang is on about her fourth wardrobe change now.

Uteruses Before Duderuses (Johnny Fever), Sunday, 3 April 2011 03:18 (thirteen years ago) link

Besides David Byrne being a better/more iconic singer/frontman and the songs being a bit better, and a 25 year head start, sure, I'll still say more or less on par. "Stop Making Sense" is a much better movie than this stream, but band for band? Sure.

Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 3 April 2011 03:18 (thirteen years ago) link

how long as arcade fire been playing w/ them

J0rdan S., Sunday, 3 April 2011 03:19 (thirteen years ago) link

i assume there will be a v high quality bootleg of this online tomorrow

J0rdan S., Sunday, 3 April 2011 03:21 (thirteen years ago) link

The AFers just came out for "North American Scum."

Uteruses Before Duderuses (Johnny Fever), Sunday, 3 April 2011 03:22 (thirteen years ago) link

how many ppl are even on stage i mean

Clay, Sunday, 3 April 2011 03:22 (thirteen years ago) link

I missed the first half hour of this, so I hope I haven't missed "Yeah." (And if they don't play "Yeah," well then...poor choice.)

Uteruses Before Duderuses (Johnny Fever), Sunday, 3 April 2011 03:22 (thirteen years ago) link

Besides David Byrne being a better/more iconic singer/frontman and the songs being a bit better, and a 25 year head start, sure, I'll still say more or less on par.

so aside from the talking heads having a better singer and better songs, they're on par, i can deal with that

da croupier, Sunday, 3 April 2011 03:23 (thirteen years ago) link

they haven't played "yeah" yet, jonny.

Clay, Sunday, 3 April 2011 03:24 (thirteen years ago) link

I mean, Talking Heads are my favorite band on many days. But I can at least recognize that this band is exceptionally great, too.

Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 3 April 2011 03:26 (thirteen years ago) link

I can too, see upthread. I just think saying these guys are on par with Stop Making Sense is crack talk.

da croupier, Sunday, 3 April 2011 03:27 (thirteen years ago) link

I said on par with the band c. "Stop Making Sense." Which was of course much more than the core Talking Heads. And also not peak Talking Heads, mind.

Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 3 April 2011 03:29 (thirteen years ago) link

Come to think of it, on that "Stop Making Sense" tour, how big were the places the Heads were playing? Not arenas, right?

Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 3 April 2011 03:31 (thirteen years ago) link

relax, i've conceded that if you ignore the disparity re: singer, songs, and stage act, this is on par with the band c SMS. Definitely a lot of people on this stage.

haven't watched the whole stream, aside from the alan vega cover and the arcade fire, has there been much difference from the Terminal 5 shows, setlist or stage show wise?

da croupier, Sunday, 3 April 2011 03:32 (thirteen years ago) link

they added a cover i didn't recognize at the end of the first set.

Clay, Sunday, 3 April 2011 03:33 (thirteen years ago) link

He looks so exhausted up there.

Wacky Way Lounge (Evan), Sunday, 3 April 2011 03:33 (thirteen years ago) link

also I wouldn't say LCD are playing arenas so much as an arena

da croupier, Sunday, 3 April 2011 03:34 (thirteen years ago) link

Fair enough.

Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 3 April 2011 03:35 (thirteen years ago) link

Also, I'm sure if the Talking Heads played a farewell show in NYC in 1983 it would have been in an impressively sized joint

da croupier, Sunday, 3 April 2011 03:36 (thirteen years ago) link

Central Park, no doubt!

Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 3 April 2011 03:40 (thirteen years ago) link

I keep thinking that keyboard dude in the hat is Sam Rockwell

da croupier, Sunday, 3 April 2011 03:40 (thirteen years ago) link

YEAH!

Uteruses Before Duderuses (Johnny Fever), Sunday, 3 April 2011 03:43 (thirteen years ago) link

Is Gavin Russom not on stage tonight? Or is he hidden somewhere in the back?

Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 3 April 2011 03:45 (thirteen years ago) link

murphy introduced him earlier so he's probably crawling around back there somewhere

Clay, Sunday, 3 April 2011 03:49 (thirteen years ago) link

Pretty sure he's on stage right now, wearing a white hat.

toby, Sunday, 3 April 2011 03:50 (thirteen years ago) link

I hope no one with easily trigger epilepsy is in the audience.

Uteruses Before Duderuses (Johnny Fever), Sunday, 3 April 2011 03:53 (thirteen years ago) link

Have seen better performances of "Yeah" btw. That wasn't bad, but it's a shame they didn't bring the house down with it tonight of all nights.

Uteruses Before Duderuses (Johnny Fever), Sunday, 3 April 2011 03:55 (thirteen years ago) link

Lol yeah there were strobe warnings at T5, and then there was a complete visual assault of like 5 minutes of intense strobing at the end of one of the sets

Totally downloading the video rip tomorrow but srsly nothing can rly come close to the live experience

ToeJam & Lewis (Stevie D(eux)), Sunday, 3 April 2011 03:55 (thirteen years ago) link

Dude wasn't exactly doing high kicks tuesday, but his voice definitely seems wearier, surprised how little the back-up seems to differ from what I saw at T5 - I figured they'd really go (wah wah) Stop Making Sense with the backdrops or something, but it looks like the same lighting rig from the stream

da croupier, Sunday, 3 April 2011 03:56 (thirteen years ago) link

i did hear they crowdsourced some airplane window footage, dunno if that's been displayed yet

da croupier, Sunday, 3 April 2011 03:57 (thirteen years ago) link

Totally agree re: "Yeah", thought the same thing at the time.

But yeah, feeling the bass/seeing shapes in your eyes from the strobing/observing everyone else going just as apeshit as you/all of the above, omg Jesus lawd god baby Jesus god

ToeJam & Lewis (Stevie D(eux)), Sunday, 3 April 2011 03:59 (thirteen years ago) link

James appears to be totally spent. Yeah and Tribulations both suffered because of his exhaustion but this band, even without James, is top tier.

Who is the guy grooving in the white gas station attendant suit next to Gavin Russom?

brotherlovesdub, Sunday, 3 April 2011 03:59 (thirteen years ago) link

"Yeah" and "Someone Great" are 2/3rds of my holy LCD trinity...if they roll out "Losing My Edge" next, I won't know what to do.

Uteruses Before Duderuses (Johnny Fever), Sunday, 3 April 2011 03:59 (thirteen years ago) link

dude jf they've basically just added some covers to the T5 setlist, stop acting like this is a mystery: http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/lcd-soundsystem/2011/terminal-5-new-york-ny-13d24d59.html

fyi i'm not sticking around to bitch about it or anything - they didn't add "jump in the fire" to the setlist until wed or thurs, and I'd love to see it tonight

da croupier, Sunday, 3 April 2011 04:00 (thirteen years ago) link

I've seen a lot of signs lately at shows warning of "extensive strobe lights," which has made me wonder: if you are epileptic, do you have to call the venue first to see if there are going to be extensive strobe lights? Or do you just show up that night, see the sign, shrug and go home?

Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 3 April 2011 04:02 (thirteen years ago) link

O HOLY SHIT xp

Uteruses Before Duderuses (Johnny Fever), Sunday, 3 April 2011 04:02 (thirteen years ago) link

dude jf they've basically just added some covers to the T5 setlist, stop acting like this is a mystery:

Man, I didn't even care about this until about 10 seconds before I decided to watch it, so it's not like I've been keeping track of setlists.

Uteruses Before Duderuses (Johnny Fever), Sunday, 3 April 2011 04:03 (thirteen years ago) link

Oh, I see: Russom shaved!

Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 3 April 2011 04:03 (thirteen years ago) link

Wait, or did he?

Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 3 April 2011 04:04 (thirteen years ago) link

This is very important stuff!

Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 3 April 2011 04:04 (thirteen years ago) link

Do think Al Doyle adds a lot to the band, in terms of movement and activity. I've seen them both with and without him, and with him is always more energetic.
