Never before released sleeve notes will also be provided by Shields explaining the whole re-mastering process.

Huh.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 15 May 2008 15:56 (fifteen years ago) link

"well, we just like turned it all up a bit, y'know..."

CharlieNo4, Thursday, 15 May 2008 16:05 (fifteen years ago) link

I'll believe this when I see it.

I can see it, but I can't feel it.

this is really, really, really funny. (if you sing it.)

poortheatre, Thursday, 15 May 2008 16:41 (fifteen years ago) link

Where's the dag dang bonus tracks?

Fastnbulbous, Friday, 16 May 2008 05:45 (fifteen years ago) link

In terms of my own ears, MBV is one of those bands I adored 20 years ago that today, don't strike any of the same chords with me. Isn't Anything sits with Mind Furnace and Richie's Dog in a dark corner of my home, desperately wanting for the touch of stylus on their ebony hides.

libcrypt, Friday, 16 May 2008 05:57 (fifteen years ago) link

for me it suffers from just having listened to it too damn much - i know it so well i never have to hear it again

although i would give an eye tooth for proper remasters of the conway era

electricsound, Friday, 16 May 2008 06:02 (fifteen years ago) link

I have the Loveless (lossless?) Minidisc, somewhere...

Mark G, Friday, 16 May 2008 07:07 (fifteen years ago) link

The Plain reissue of Loveless from a couple of years ago sounds incredible. I can't imagine these being much of an improvement.

The Wayward Johnny B, Friday, 16 May 2008 07:48 (fifteen years ago) link

i didn't think the plain issue sounded any better than the cd. for realsies. i'm torn now between what to get. i wish they'd put the analogue master on lp, it'd make things a lot easier.

BELATED MBV REFORMATION POINT: i liked that old article announcing tourdates, mentioning their 'longtime booking agent' who'd worked with them for twenty years. pretty slow twenty years.

schlump, Friday, 16 May 2008 09:04 (fifteen years ago) link

three years pass...

is the 'loveless' reissue once again RARE OOP on vinyl?

omar little, Sunday, 22 January 2012 19:58 (twelve years ago) link

haven't seen them lately

akm, Sunday, 22 January 2012 20:16 (twelve years ago) link

one month passes...

Ha, even Kevin Shields was suckered into seeing "Avatar."

Josh in Chicago, Saturday, 10 March 2012 14:20 (twelve years ago) link

Then, suddenly, nothing happened!

Mark G, Saturday, 10 March 2012 18:58 (twelve years ago) link

I have the slipcase promos of the remasters somwhere. Must dig them out to see if they were actually remastered, or whether they sound the same as the original CD versions.

Viva Brother Beyond (ithappens), Saturday, 10 March 2012 19:08 (twelve years ago) link

I hear they sound awesome if you turn them way the fuck up.

Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 11 March 2012 01:22 (twelve years ago) link

I'm willing to bet my house those CDs weren't remastered.

Chewshabadoo, Sunday, 11 March 2012 10:27 (twelve years ago) link

whole time i read that i was wondering whether this was ever, at any point, interrupted by the interviewee

NO NUTRITIONAL CONTENT (kelpolaris), Tuesday, 13 March 2012 15:32 (twelve years ago) link

Ok wait, he's recording a new MBV album? I must have missed this....

Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Tuesday, 13 March 2012 15:47 (twelve years ago) link

When hasn't he been doing that.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 13 March 2012 15:47 (twelve years ago) link

new album out tomorrow!

Dude seems pretty oblivious to the fact that big stores are selling vinyl these days. Ridiculously priced, yes, but Best Buy and all that have racks of "Abbey Road" and "Thriller".

Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Tuesday, 13 March 2012 15:54 (twelve years ago) link

i continually hear all about this but have yet to see it at both my local bestbuys. where do you guys live?

NO NUTRITIONAL CONTENT (kelpolaris), Thursday, 15 March 2012 16:31 (twelve years ago) link

Atlanta

Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Thursday, 15 March 2012 16:32 (twelve years ago) link

I live just north of Chicago. Even the Best Buy closest to my house, which has the tiniest CD selection I've ever seen in one before, has a 4 foot rack of vinyl.

stan this sick bunt (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Thursday, 15 March 2012 20:12 (twelve years ago) link

the fukk? maybe it's just the places bestbuy is in around here - suburbs - that kinda negate the demand for vinyl, like closer to downtown (where all our record shops start to gravitate towards here in denver.... absolutely nothing 5 miles in any direction once you start headed out of skyscraper-range)

NO NUTRITIONAL CONTENT (kelpolaris), Thursday, 15 March 2012 22:56 (twelve years ago) link

also you might consider, in regards of mbv, that britain doesn't have as many chain stores (i'm not saying doesn't *have*... i'm just saying we've got a wider diaspora and variety of big boxes.... me having been to england...never)

NO NUTRITIONAL CONTENT (kelpolaris), Thursday, 15 March 2012 22:58 (twelve years ago) link

There’s a mess of not very well processed information and I don’t feel great afterwards. The point, scientifically, is that a lot of 3D processes stress the brain because it’s tricking the brain to do an exercise. “I think the corporate world wants to stress the hell out of us so we have no energy left to say, ‘Fuck off’. They’re somehow turning all the mediums of relaxation into added stress inducement techniques.

this is exactly how i feel about television

the late great, Thursday, 15 March 2012 23:05 (twelve years ago) link

five years pass...

I will probably buy these, even though by all rights I should know better. (I already have 4 versions of isn't anything.)
