The window sill!

Tim - right. I actually only bought that comp because of "Wings" - Like many of you, I own more Fall albums than any sane person ought to (and This Nation's Saving Grace on all three formats, for some reason), but that's still probably my favorite Fall song. I think the video made a big impression on me.

Another DYNAMIC intrance!

hey did MES ever explain in an interview what the deal was with the infamous "The Classical" lyric that lost them the Motown deal?

Another DYNAMIC typo!

i kinda worry about people who know the fall's version and not r dean taylor's i mean IT'S THE MOST FAMOUS NORTHERN SOUL TRACK EVER PEOPLE

tom west (thomp), Thursday, 1 July 2004 10:45 (nineteen years ago) link

actually it's possibly an interesting departure point for uh something. with dean taylor's being (famously?) a nasty-white-pop-record for motown (nb. it's AWESOME but anyway) so for an american fan to have not heard of it you're following something from canada to motown to across to north england for northern soul and then back, but eh

tom west (thomp), Thursday, 1 July 2004 10:49 (nineteen years ago) link

course what i know about northern soul = one chapter in 'last night, a dj' and 'the greatest northern soul all-nighter in the world EVER'. and possibly the guy who hasn't heard it isn't american, apologies.

^ GREAT

What exactly was the connection betwen 'Telephone Thing' and some track by Coldcut and Lisa Stansfield? Can never remember the whole story.

laticsmon (laticsmon), Thursday, 1 July 2004 12:53 (nineteen years ago) link

Lisa did it originally, I think, but Coldcut and/or MES thought it could be redone better

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 1 July 2004 12:55 (nineteen years ago) link

Coldcut produced (only the one track) 'Telephone Thing' on the Extricate album. Best use of Wah-pedal. Ever.

Which song is by R Dean Taylor, the greatest Northern Soul artist I have never heard of? This board is going to vanish before the answer comes I fear.

the answer is: "gotta see jane" and "there's a ghost in my house"

also, isn't this cute?

Coldcut had a great early-Coldcut-style single called My Telephone, then they had a cheesy pop-diva album track of the same title with some of the same bits of music, then they had a grumbly Fall production job with some of the same bits of music
