pretty sure your standard AV amp these days has every kind of input possible.

Gee this thread is fun, I just love it when ILX talks sexy!

Seriously, I just printed this entire thread out so I can look at rewiring my bedroom setup so hubby can watch his damn sports in the bedroom even if Tivo wakes up and wants to change the channel. He doesn't seem to notice the GLARING red lite on Tivo and he changes teh TV channel and F's up my Tivo'd show. Can someone assist me in the interface with TV, DVD, VCR, satellite box, Tivo and Receiver? Feh, I don't want to have to hire someone to come and do it, when it's probably just something mis plugged like Spittle.... I used to be so great at all this but then the technology went over my head.

anybody out there? I went to dinner hoping to find an assist from fellow ILXers and got zip, zilch, nada. Off to sleep now and hoping somebody with the tech savvy will post here by my morning!

OK - but they don't all have surround sound capability, do they? And I'm not even sure if they do all have digitlal inputs - having just glanced at cheap models on Amazon, the first thing I found was:

http://www.amazon.com/AudioSource-Amp-100-2-Channel-Amplifier/dp/B00026BQJ6/ref=sr_1_2/102-8284325-6700155?ie=UTF8&s=audio-video&qid=1174380772&sr=1-2

which doesn't appear to have digital inputs or 5.1 capability (although it does start talking about 6.1 and 7.1, which I've never heard of!).

5.1 = centre speaker and stereo front and stereo back + sub
(pro-logic only has a single channel for the surround speakers)
6.1 adds a centre rear
7.1 adds, er, another speaker

http://www.pantherproducts.co.uk/Articles/Audio/surround_sound2.shtml

toslink are those squareish digital optical sockets.

that amp is only a two-channel amp, not an av amp. (plus it's american)

amazon.com has a 'home theater' section with av amps. else search for 'dolby digital'.

wiggy, where are you (wiring is kinda country specific). and what do you mean by 'receiver'?

my tivo is set up like:

set top box -> tivo
ps2 -> vcr <-> tivo
tivo -> tv
dvd -> tv
set top box audio -> av receiver
dvd audio -> av receiver
tivo audio -> av receiver

(tivo has two scart sockets in, one out, video has scart passthrough, tivo has 2 scarts in. i don't use the receiver for switching video signals or anything like that)

but that's not gonna help someone ignoring the red light on the tivo. (i use the vcr bypass button and the tuner in the vcr if i need to watch something whilst the tivo is recording something else - tuner in the actual tv is broken)

koogs - thanks! that helps a lot. actually i'm moving to america soon, so it'll be an american amp i'm after.
