"thong song" is a legitimately great song -- the production on it is amazing

i fuck w/ "who let the dogs out" too \(o_O)/ -- "pieces of me" is aight

"mambo #5" is corny & not even in an acceptable way -- "friday" is of course totally awful

& the thing about "thong song" is that it's a bit ridiculous but it's sort of a hilarious endpoint (or close to one at least) of a type of song that rappers/singers have been making for decades & in that sense the ridiculousness works for it in terms of being a 'serious' song (if that makes sense)

"who let the dogs out" & "mambo 5" & of course "friday" are just straight novelty tho

I'll confess... look, I didn't mean to ok, it just happened. I let the dogs out. I thought I closed the gate but it didn't latch right or something. Anyway, that's not an excuse, just an explanation. I AM sorry, but I can't believe after all these years this is still an issue. We found all the dogs too BTW, it was only like 4 dogs, ok! I'm not gonna say anymore I just wanted to own up to it, that's all.

Shakey pulled Ashlee Simpson's name out of thin air as someone famous for being successful despite lack of talent, but that's more for the SNL debacle than her actual music (although "Pieces of Me" is a total piece of shit, just not a notorious one like "Friday" or even "Who Let The Dogs Out")

are we far enough away from "who let the dogs out" that "letting the dogs out" jokes are funny again? dad joke enthusiasts would love to know

I mean, I appreciate and understand 100% Jordan's defense of "Thong Song", but I was also on Spring Break in Texas during March 2000 and heard that goddamn song roughly 300 times per day and it was positively destroyed for me by that experience.

i've always like "thong song" - had it down as "favorite song" in my 5th grade yearbook - but i never really noticed how well it functioned as a straight-up r&b song until i heard it alongside the rest of shipley's top 50 r&b songs of the decade list

Anslem Douglas' original of Who Let The Dogs Out? might have shaded it but Sisqo is the pick of this bunch.

"friday" is highly entertaining. "mambo no 5" was annoying but it's based on a good tune. "who let the dogs out?" is actively hateful.

("pieces of me" is not really anything like ashlee's best, though, or even the best off her debut album)

Mambo No. 5 and Thong Song are from around the same time period but I remember liking Mambo a bit more.
