the multigenerational aspect of dbz was fascinating to me - even heroes get old and die!

haha the familial aspect of dbz was something that turned me off tbh, i loved that the sailor scouts essentially existed independent of their 30th century parents although chibi moon ugh

the whole mythology behind dbz was too convoluted & alien for me i think i needed the familiarity of the sailor scout's normal lives & identities. also the whole dbz thing seemed so pointless dudes were destroying fukken planets & it all seemed liked the most boring party imaginable

by the time i was 13 i was in high school & into 'serious' anime like evangelion & slayers (lol) & didnt care about either of these but i almost regret now watching the s series or any of the later sailor moon runs.

haha slayers... shoulderpads and megumi hayashibara, they dont make em like that anymore~

evangelion & ~escaflowne~ were my jams from like 13-15... cowboy bebop too but at the same time not so much

the sailor scouts secret identities (and HS drama) were deffo a big part of the appeal... plus the interplay between all the scouts' personalities was great... its all coming back to me now!!!

yeah nge was def ~the jam~ 4 me although even there i really liked the smaller quotidian details early in the series - him going to school & chilling at misato's place, the logistics of their lives together~~~

i think i always really value series/books that both allow you to insert yourself into & spend time filling in the margins. with dbz the world was too lonely & alien just these empty grasslands and ice caps & the occasional time traveller or w/e. felt like there was 12 ppl in the entire world

nge is tailor-made for those angsty early teen years... its like the black flag of anime (idk)

definitely - eva was great at the lil quiet moments, though a lot of that was just a budget thing - it worked for them tho, like misato walking barefoot down the street on a summer night w/kaji, having taken off her heeled shoes and letting them dangle from a couple fingers - that relationship felt so ~grown up~ to me

kinda otm about lonely & alien dbz universe, which is why dragonball is way better to me, it just feels like more of a lived-in world instead of a blank setting for massive battles
