Vinyl has made Give Up the Ghost semi-listenable.

'Give Up the Ghost' is still one of my favorites in here... has the same sort of 'pastoral'(?) feel of '4 minute warning'.

Actually could have fitted pretty good in KoL instead of being reduced to b-side material.

We could say that about 'Bangers and Mash' actually.

Kings of Leon would never have written Bangers & Mash (terrible as that song is).

i think i like these record store day tracks better than anything on the record.

'the butcher' plays some rhythm games similar to 'little by little' but i think it works a lot better here...neither the kick nor the bass hit on the downbeat, so when the main beat finally drops in the middle it feels like everything flips around/snaps into place (but in a much more satisfying way than 'lxl').

The Butcher should have been on the album.

Yup longest Supercollider must be the longest Radiohead song yet, and doesn't go anywhere. Nobody was expecting "paranoid android 2" at this point but still... even Faust Arp seemed more dynamic and that one was 2 minutes long.

Are people aware that if they've paid for the newspaper album or digital album, they can download Supercollider & The Butcher for free from the King of Limbs website? Because I wasn't til just now.

Apparently those downloads are only 128kb? There are 320kb ones very easily findable...

They've been upgraded to 320kb apparently. If you've bought the digital album you can download wavs.

Supercollider is quite nice, not feeling the Butcher at all really. Where all these tracks fall down (and Little By Little for that matter) is a lack of force in either the beats or the bass (or both). I'm not suggesting they suddenly turn into Ill Blu or something but the music they're influenced by would never be built on such a brittle skeleton, and the end result is kind of anaemic.

I think the opposite... the beats and bass are pretty much the only thing holding most of the songs together. The problem is that it's all backbone and not enough muscle/flesh.

It doesn't help that Thom is often at his worse over that sort of beat, he doesn't quite seem to know what to do with his voice.

Just got the email this morning notifying me that I could download these. I think its pretty cool for them to throw these out there for people that have paid for is, especially those of us that paid for the big box and are still waiting.

I bought TKOL and got the "thank you" email, followed the link and it wanted to charge me £6.00 for the songs. Like fuck.

"The Butcher" is amazing.

after about a dozen listenings, i have a newfound appreciation for this album... that still doesn't warrant anything beyond this being my least favorite of their work.

but i still rather dig the subtleties, like the "blooming" of the guitars on... er, that last song... and percussion that really carries itself like no other album before it. sorta.

So, anybody got their newspaper album yet? Mine turned up about 10 minutes ago:

yeah, i'm assunming that's it muting thru the partially transparent lettering and am not making a stretch when i say that it looks like christmas wrapping paper
