I <3 jeff in this episode.

I'm amazed/impressed at how next-level this ep was, and how quickly the show got there. It's their "Treehouse Of Horror VI." (Paintball was their "Marge Vs. The Monorail")

Do I need to watch MDWA?

Annie was looking SUPER FUCKING HOT with that look

MDWA is def worth seeing, yes.

fwiw, I never saw the movie (I will now), but still caught the reference and the general sense that this was an otm/over-the-top homage. Caught a few clips on YouTube, and wow, Community had that shit down.

i didn't get it with the sweater, but soon as Abed started recounting the Cougartown story I did. He had Andre Gregory's delivery down.

Ditto. Before that I was all DO NOT TELL ME WHAT THEY'RE REFERENCING I'LL FIGURE IT OUT to my wife, who hasn't seen Dinner but read spoilers.

i can't wait to watch this season again when it comes out on dvd.

we can't rule out the supernatural no matter how much I would like to (stevie), Monday, 28 March 2011 20:15 (thirteen years ago) link

I watched it on DVR the next night. Soon as he started that story I paused it, said "no way", grabbed my iPhone, came to this thread, saw someone referencing My Dinner With Andre, then said "yup" and went back to the show.

Is this where the line for novelty accounts start?

While this picture depicts a sexual act between Donald Glover and Danny Pudi, I must admit my genuine admiration for a such an authentic bromance that transcends the television screen - NSFW

I love the way this show sprinkles more shit to analyze in the background than Lost.

In one of the DVD commentaries someone on the cast talks about how they read one of the background flyers on the set, and how hilarious it was. Apparently the art department works insanely hard on these things.

Yeah, thats what I was thinking. A lot of the posters in the hallways are just hilarious or off-putting, they clearly have a lot of fun with it.

awww

That's why they call me (Johnny Fever), Friday, 15 April 2011 14:04 (thirteen years ago) link

this is def walking the line between viewer and obsessed stan however: some reviewers keep understanding the dynamic between Abed + Tobolowsky as a disagreement over whether Angela or Tony is the boss (with Abed arguing persuasively for Angela in the end). It seemed much more likely to me, tho, (and this is for sure influenced by my own experiences in academia) that Tobolowsky was trying some kind of shticky postmodern reading of the show. One where the answer to 'who's the boss' is complicated and multilayered and where the show is in fact asking serious questions about who is ever the boss and what it means to be a boss. So keeping that in mind it made it all the funnier when Abed was able to pierce that kind of detached scholarship with his own television passion. The answer to 'who's the boss' is not some complex discussion about bosses in general and the relationship between viewership and object, but the simple, "Angela." of course it's really funny the other way too where Tobolowsky has designed an entire course around proving that the boss is tony.

Not seen the show ever, but reading Village Voice story on Glover guy (have never encountered him anywhere) makes me worry he'll kill himself w/ show business.
