i honestly thought this would be "over" within like a week but somehow views-wise and sales-wise this is STILL getting more popular, more popular than it has ever been right now

gang fight more catchy than friday, imo

☠ (roxymuzak), Saturday, 26 March 2011 00:19 (thirteen years ago) link

<3 Gang Fight.

I played this for my kids (Bieber/Kesha fans) and they were merely bored with it. It's not even good to press their buttons and get them screaming "TURN IT OFF! TURN IT OFF!" (like they do with "The Leanover" by Life Without Buildings). Disappointed, really.

Ha, this is going to be like the viral "Avatar." Everyone gives it a listen, everyone either loves it or hates it, and then the next thing you know, it's grossed over a billion dollars.

Untalented white girls need an untalented role model they can identify with. Because some white girls are too scared to dress like Katy Perry and Lady Gaga.

did "Friday" break youtube? it's definitely the most viewed video of the week and month, and right now it's the 119th most viewed video (& 75th most viewed music video) of all time. yet it doesn't appear on any of youtube's charts. suspicious?

Matt Armstrong, Sunday, 27 March 2011 05:34 (thirteen years ago) link

youtube hides a lot of highly viewed videos from the most viewed lists, especially ones that are semi-porny.

a few months ago Billboard started a 'Social 50' chart in an attempt to measure which artists are generating the most activity on YouTube, social networking sites, etc (like, Gaga and Bieber typically top the chart). Rebecca Black just crashed the chart at #9: http://www.billboard.com/#/charts/social-50

Bad idea, Ark.

They just removed the original video from youtube and closed that account.

I assume they're upgrading or something, but that was a piece of internet history!

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 29 March 2011 23:24 (thirteen years ago) link

I mean, unless they worked out a deal with youtube to transfer viewership stats over to the video whenever it gets reposted, I feel like one of Ark's greatest achievements has just been vaporized. We'll never know how many views the original video would've gotten.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 29 March 2011 23:31 (thirteen years ago) link

Plus, thousands of youtube links/embeds just went dead and useless.

Fuck you, Ark.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 29 March 2011 23:35 (thirteen years ago) link

administratieve blunder (unregistered), Wednesday, 30 March 2011 00:18 (thirteen years ago) link

did anyone mention that "Friday" debuted at #72 on the real Billboard Hot 100 this week? last week it placed on Billboard's digital chart, but it didn't seem real back then, it seemed like a dream.

also sometime tonight it beat "Chocolate Rain"s view count. a part of me wants to cheer her on, but another part of me feels so bad for Tay Zonday. in the modern era, I bet he would've ripped that shit up on the pop charts.
