Was hoping that Miracle would be good, but so far it's dreadful...the vocals are ugh. Much love for Majeure. Also if no one's checked out the new Maserati, Pattera's influence looms pretty heavily on it compared to previous outings.

No kidding. Sometimes I prefer and enjoy Steve Moore's solo stuff more so than him working with his partner. This new 12" is solid gold.

Gonna have to check that one out...I'm enjoying Escape Velocity quite a bit at the moment but I wouldn't say it's much of a progression from Spirit Animal.

Just picked up Escape Velocity at lunch break and eager to drop the needle when I get home.

I'm enjoying this but I gotta say, anyone who's really tripping balls over this one really needs to do themselves a favour and check out Jean-Michel Jarre's Magnetic Fields, which this occasionally seems a pretty direct rip of.

Escape Velocity is the first/only Zombi album I've heard that occasionally makes me think of EBM synth sequences, especially DAF (maybe it's the four-on-the-floor/dance emphasis on this one).

Craig, forgive me- is that a particular synth or a musician?

Yeah, Spirit Animal's a keeper. Just one run through of this one--sounds good so far. Side 2 sounds like it could have been called Majeure though. did they always split the songwriting on previous releases?

nice review ned! i was thinking the same thing about the drums. when someone upthread mentioned it was a JMJ rip, i was gonna reply 'but THE DRUMS! THEY HIT SO HARD!!'

as a side note, can anyone suggest some kraut with heavy hitting motorik?

the drums on this really don't work for me, they seem too detached from the synths and it all sounds a bit disjointed. Same as a lot of Spirit Animal and the Maserati split.. i think maybe the drumming is just not quite as intuitive as it was on Surface to Air, when it really seemed like he was feeling the rhythms

it's a shame, cos when they drop the drums on Shrunken Heads it lets the piece really breathe, so you can get lost in that ebb and flow they do so well. One of my favourites of the year that track

"Shrunken Heads" is a great track--tempted to attempt to play it alongside "Time Warp" by Eddy Grant in a DJ set...
