I hate when the modern day owners of the brand are mentioned in the same breath as "Animal House and the "Vacation" franchise. Now, if they said "current owners of a franchise churning out dreck like Van Wilder and many C-level, even worse enterprises" I'd be cool.

Has anyone seen the doc? The trailer was on the last 2 DVDs I watched, so I'm guessing its out there by now.

I recorded it last month when the History Channel showed it, but I haven't watched it yet.

I saw it! It was good! Too short really, and I'm not sure about the accuracy of the narrative, which seemed designed to tie the magazine's tailspin in with doug kenney's death too neatlt, but there was a lot of great stuff in there.

Finally saw the doc. Surprised that my main takeaway was basically, "wow, National Lampoon was pretty much the Family Guy of its day, huh?"

Got five mid-'70s issues for next-to-nothing at a thrift store today: the Diamond Jubilee issue, the Election Year issue, the Back to College issue, the Selling Out issue, and the Goodbye to All That issue. (I left three or four behind that weren't in good shape.) Not, unfortunately, the If You Don't Buy This Magazine...issue--saw that in the auction display case at a thrift store once.

I'm the right age, but I've never read a word of National Lampoon.
