he always seems pretty low key and lucid in interviews IMO

rza explains it in one of his books. i think it comes from some old kung fu movie, although i can't remember specifics and i cannot be bothered looking it up. :D

it's not in the Wu-Tang Manual. is it in RZA's recent bio? I've watched my share of kung-fu movies and never come across this one.

Raekwon:I use to be a 5 percenter, I went from a 5 percenter to being a Muslim. I had gotten my name from a couple of friends, it came from back in my early days when I was seeking knowledge that I wasn’t able to get out of school at the time. We wasn’t getting a lot learnt from school at the time, they weren’t paying attention to us. I wanted to search for the higher plane of knowledge and I went to that side of it. The nation has taught me a lot.

I just want to know where it comes from since it's such a random word and every other Wu-Tang moniker has some complex story/rationale/explanation behind it. "his friends made it up" doesn't really cut it, no.

Random Raekwon anecdote: My parents who are in their mid 70's had a meal at Carmine's last year and sat unknowingly a table away from him and his date. They shared a lovely conversation about life and New York and only found out he was famous after they left when a flabbergasted waitress asked "did you know who that was??!" I died when they told me.
